Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!
A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?
These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.
Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on
- APUSH link
- Biology
- Calc AB
- Calc BC
- Chemistry
- CSA
- CSP
- Gov
- Lang
- Lit
- Psych
- Stats
- World
- Physics 1
- APES
- HUG
- Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
- Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
- Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
- Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
- Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
- Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
- Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
- Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon
It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.
Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.
Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.
Good luck in your classes everyone!

Other Opinion: Before going full on into a major take an AP or DE class related to that major
I am seeing a troubling trend where people change their minds about a major just based on a YouTube video they watch. I know a guy who wanted to be a meteorologist and was planning to take a Dual Enrollment Meteorology course, but after watching one cool video on chemicals or something and now wants to be a dual major in electrical engineering and chemistry.
While I applaud YouTube and STEM related youtubers for promoting interest in STEM, I will also acknowledge that YouTube videos can't exactly show you the Mathematics and complexity of the major/career path. YouTube is designed to get views if you show a board of equations you are of course going to get less views than if you show the end product instead, but you know what does and proves that you really can do the subject? The actual college courses and their equivalents.
This applies to the Humanities too, if you think being a lawyer is easy because you watch one law and order episode, you are in for a rude awakening. Take AP US Government or AP English Literature or some DE Intro to law course to get a sense of the major and the amount of work in it.
I know APs and DEs aren't going to exactly match the coursework of your intended major, but it is good to get a sense of it before making a full commitment. I will also warn against taking lower level courses that sound close to your major, but haven't been proven to be rigorous like a lower than Honors course such as Materials Science and Anatomy, take them if they sound fun but don't expect them to prepare you much for majors.
It is better to explore intended majors now in high school using these options when everything is still cheap and DE and AP will cost you at most $100, than switch in college where it will cost $1000 at least for each class.

English Lit independent reading recommendations
I'm not a huge reader and only taking the class for college credits. I'm just looking for a book that's relatively short and interesting, preferably not fantasy or sci-fi.

Physics 1 Bombed Physics 1 Exam (need help)
I got a 20% on my first AP Physics 1 exam. How can I improve?
As the title suggests, I did poorly on my first exam, scoring just 4/21 (19%) on what is supposedly the easiest unit: kinematics. I got 2/14 on the multiple-choice section and 2/7 on the free-response question, and I'm extremely disappointed in my performance (to say the least).
What makes this especially frustrating is that I average around 70% on practice problem sets. While that isn't an outstanding score, it's significantly better than my exam result, and I don't understand where the disconnect is.
I don't want to drop the class, nor is dropping it an option, so I need to figure out how to improve before the next exam. For those who have taken AP Physics 1 or struggled with the course initially, what strategies helped you improve? How should I approach studying, practicing multiple-choice questions, and preparing for FRQs?

Calc BC Finding Resources to teach a class (As a student)
Recently our teacher for AP Calculus abandoned our class. Because of this, we should be expecting to have a teacher by February.
To me this is unacceptable.
As such I am taking it upon myself to study and teach the class. I understand this is insane, but as long as I have the classroom to myself, I believe I can unofficially teach my friends.
If anyone knows of any worksheets that I can use or study guides to break it down, please let me know!
We were left in unit 2, and I want to bring our class to unit 5 by December.
I was one of the best students in the class, so I hope I can understand the material quick enough to teach it and reinforce it to myself.

Question I want to take 3 AP classes but people around me say it's too much
Guys so I'm self studying for AP CSP, AP Micro and AP WH bc in my country there are no schools that offer AP classes except the American schools which aren't in my city. And after I called one of those schools to register for the exams they said that 3 AP classes are too much and it would be better to take only two(I'm a sophomore) but I want to take 3 so that by the end of highschool I would have at least taken 10 AP classes so that it looks good on my college applications . What do you guys advise me to do ?

"Harvey Milk
Harvey Milk who was a politician was the first gay man to be elected as a San Francisco Board Member of Supervisors. Harvey Milk gave a speech about gay rights and spoke about gay oppression and racism in California in 1978. The rhetorical choices Harvey Milk decides to use in his “Hope” Speech are logic, antithesis, and credibility to raise awareness for gay rights and oppression and to motivate the youth to fight back against oppression and racism.
Harvey Milk specifically uses logic and antithesis when comparing the lives of gay people and non gay people. Harvey Milk states, “You see there is a major difference – and it remains a vital difference – between a friend and a gay person, a friend in office and a gay person in office. Gay people have been slandered nationwide. We've been tarred and we've been brushed with the picture of pornography. In Dade County, we were accused of child molestation.” (P8) In this quote Harvey states the differences between on how a gay person in office is able to represent gay people more effectively than a non gay person. Harvey does this by referencing the slandering gay people have faced nationwide consisting of child molestation accusations, and being “brushed” with the picture of pornography. Harvey then contrasts this with how non gay people don’t face as many hardships or slandering as gay people proving a non gay man cannot represent the gay people of America.
Harvey Milk also uses his credibility and authority in his speech. Although it isn’t stated in the text it is stated in the summary of the text.. In this summary it explains how he is the first gay elected official for San Francisco giving him the authority to speak on certain topics non gay people can’t. He is extremely credible in this source since he is a gay person speaking about gay rights and trying to motivate the youth after all. He then uses his authority by stating his position as a US official making him credible and a trustworthy source as he then later states facts in his speech about racism etc.
Harvey Milk combines these rhetorical choices to speak to the youth and to recruit the youth on his journey. Firstly, he talks about the differences between a gay individual and a straight individual explaining the differences. Secondly, he uses status as a US official to state facts about the topics he talks about. He then uses all of these rhetorical strategies in one speech to try to open a new life for gay people and to show light on gay rights to give them freedom. "
pls help

Research Ap research question help
My current research question is: To what extent does the marketing of a small business producing dog treats influence consumers to choose a small business over a big-name brand?
I want to improve my question to be more specific
-I own a dog treat small business so I want to focus on that topic
-some key things to include with my question, which I havent figured out how to yet would be testing packaging design as well as the difference in advantages of small and big businesses. I also want to note if businesses can be successful when low cost marketing strageties occur(organically grown)

Bio Bad AP teacher
Our original AP Bio teacher has left. She was the best teacher, ngl, but she got a better opportunity. This new teacher is actually not the best; he doesn't teach well and skips over important parts of the unit. Can anyone give me an AP BIO review Google Doc or anything that would be beneficial? I would like to pass this test with a 4 or 5 if possible. We are already on unit 3.

Question Thoughts on taking AP?
I’m a junior in highschool and I’m thinking of starting APs…(yes Ik im late)
I am to be an ap scholar with honors and I plan on doing that by self studying all my AP courses. (My school offers aps but u can only pick one to do during school hours and it’s as an “elective course” and well my elective is robotics.)
Which APs should I take this year and which APs should I take next year?
Im MOST likely going to stay in my country for college but if I go abroad i might go to the UK or somewhere with a reputable computer engineering program
My options are either AP CSP and AP stats this year but I’m scared the workload would be too much since I also have to start prepping for my GAT and my SAT as well.
And for next year I’m planning on doing AP Physics 1 and AP calculus
Sooo any thoughts?

Meme AP goon prospects
Hey guys,
Next year is my senior year and my school is trying out a new AP course: AP goon. Should I take it? Has anyone else enjoyed the course?
