EDIT 7/10/19: This post is wildly outdated. If anyone wants to take it on themselves to compile a new one, I'll sticky it.

EDIT 3/18/2026: Nearly a decade old post now. A lot has happened/been developed in Alpharetta. Again, if someone would like to make an updated post, I'd be happy to sticky it.

We get a lot of folks looking to move to Alpharetta posting questions or newly-moved people who don't know what to do here, so I figured I could make it easier! I didn't vet any of these links for quality of responses, so feel free to post any of these questions again tailored to your personal needs! And if you have suggestions on any of these topics, don't be afraid to comment below.

I looked back to the last 12 months only. If anyone finds an older post they find useful, feel free to suggest it for the list.

GA 400 Sound Barrier - Windward Exit

Does anyone know what the plan is for sound barriers to go up around the Windward pkwy exit? Since they’ve cut all the trees down the noise pollution has gone up significantly. Couldn’t find anything on the planning site for the project.

Does anyone know what happened to Scott the Barber?

He was in the building next to the Alpharetta Animal Hospital, which is now the parking garage.

He was quite the character, but I always assumed his pricing model of $12 hait cuts and live bait wasn't sustainability...and he didn't really fit the vibe of the new downtown make over

MAA Lake Lanier??

Looking for affordable apartments near Buford/Lake Lanier/Flowery Branch area to move to soon from California.

I’ve looked into MAA Lake Lanier so far and it seems to have everything my family and I need (2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog). I’ve set up a tour to see the location by video but I wanted opinions from others that have experience. What exactly is needed to qualify for an apartment here? Or are there other places we should be looking instead?

For context: I work from home and I’m a gamer so I’ll need decent internet (ATT fiber preferred). I would like to have a place where my sick dog can get out and get some exercise without being overwhelmed by others. Monthly gross income would be about $3800 if only one person applied, $7200 if both applied (but we aren’t sure about the credit requirement)

Alpharetta/North Fulton builders: AME beta invitation for finding complementary collaborators

I'm Bryce, founder of AME. I saw the discussion here about finding a North Fulton tech/startup community, and I'm inviting people building businesses in Alpharetta and the surrounding area to help shape our collaborator beta.

AME helps entrepreneurs find relevant collaborators and opportunities based on what they bring and the help they need. For example, an AI developer might need someone to lead customer discovery, while a marketer might want a technical collaborator to build a product. Founders/operators, technical builders, marketing/growth professionals, finance/investment professionals, and creators/production professionals all have a place in that mix.

For people building here: what work could you take ownership of, and what complementary help would make the biggest difference? I'm interested in specific work and goals, rather than a general networking pitch. Happy to discuss how AME approaches that and answer questions in the comments.

The AME 1000 beta is free. Access is application-based and subject to approval. The overview and application are at https://meetame.com/start/. Applying doesn't guarantee admission or a match.

Founder disclosure: this is my product; AI assisted with the wording.

GA State House District 49 race - Democratic candidate Sara Fuchs

Hi Alpharetta! I’m Sara Fuchs, the Democratic candidate for Georgia House District 49.

I’m a librarian and a PTA mom. I grew up in east Cobb, and my husband and I have lived in Roswell for ten years. We have two sons in 7th and 8th grade at our public middle school.

For most of the last six years, I worked at the State Capitol as chief of staff and campaign manager for Rep. Betsy Holland so I know how state government works. I also know it does not feel like the government is working for us.

I’ve also had a front-row seat as our opponent, a 23-year incumbent, voted the wrong way on the issues that matter most: underfunding our public schools, blocking healthcare access, and standing against reproductive freedom.

If you have kids in schools, you might know, like I do, that positions have been cut, classes are too big, and you are always being asked to raise money. My opponent says that schools are fully funded - I say he has no idea what he's talking about. He says he's lowered taxes - Fulton County Schools is raising its millage rate for the first time in seven years. He's just passing the buck and we're the ones paying the price.

You can learn more about my campaign here:

https://www.saraforgeorgia.com/

Voting:
• Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, and you can vote at any early voting site in Fulton County.
• On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, you must vote at your assigned precinct.
• Details: https://www.saraforgeorgia.com/how-to-vote

I’m happy to answer questions about my campaign and my positions in the comments!

City of Alpharetta in financial trouble?

Hearing that the City of Alpharetta is facing financial constraints, resulting in immediate budget cuts targeting the Recreation and Parks department.

Over 50 employees are reportedly being impacted as their positions are "reclassified." Very little notice was given, with severe hour reductions taking effect yesterday.

Many of these staff members commute from outside the immediate Alpharetta area due to the local cost of living and are now suddenly left scrambling to find additional income sources to cover the deficit.

Free Beginner Mahjong Lessons?

Anywhere I can go in town for beginner mahjong lessons for free? The libraries near me are either full or in the middle of the week day.

Others I found seem pricey to me but maybe that’s standard $75+…😬

Dumped 12 Week Old Kitten???

Thumbnail

Anyone up to adopting or fostering a new family member? 🥹 This little dude was dropped on my front doorstep— in a TAPED UP box!

I have NO idea what to do. I travel often for work. I can’t own a kitten, I don’t have the time! This is kinda my last resort before I surrender him to the animal shelter tomorrow. I’ve read they’re no kill, is that a good way to go?

He’s a boy, dewormed, comes when called AND loves cats, dogs, and kids. He’s never once used his claws on me— even when clipping or deworming, he just purred the WHOLE time! Genuinely the sweetest animal. If anyone has any ideas or is open to offering him a lovely home, please let me know! Gahhhh, people suck.

What’s with all the smoke this morning? Was there a fire somewhere? Or is it a controlled burn? I can’t find anything online about either.

Camden Alpharetta- Real page corporate takeover - stay away

Just a warning based on objective data - Camden appears to be repeating the same pattern here after recently taking over Artesia Big Creek. See links below

Been here for 5 years - then all of a sudden they REQUIRE SSN, DRIVERS LICENSE, AND DATE OF BIRTH to install a Chirp lock system. PLUS the invoices now come in as RealPages. Check them out and also Chirp. Sus.

We aren't renewing our lease so this is me being mindful of bs.

Realpages.com branded as Camden it appears to me.

Who owns Camden anymore? We are not alone. Rent prices all of a sudden going up for renewals (quoted as 16% per a fellow resident).

Best fried chicken with a reasonable distance?

I miss gas station fried chicken and I know I won’t find it. And Mary Mac, if it’s even there anymore, is a bit outside my radius. Any ideas?

Hi! Making my mom a birthday meal. I don’t live here so I’d like to know where to buy the best stuff - like really good butter, wine and cheese. Also dessert. Bonus points for fewer stops. Thank you!

MAGA Commissioner Helped Trump Raid Election Office, Voted to Raise Utility Rates

Vote carefully!! "Thorne was a key witness in the FBI’s raid on Fulton County, and her own colleagues have raised concerns about whether she can be trusted with confidential legal strategy related to protecting local elections and voter data. As families face rising costs, Thorne voted to increase water and sewer rates and failed to deliver meaningful relief from high taxes."
