Alexander "The Great" Volkanovski is an Australian MMA legend of Macedonian and Greek heritage who tied the record for the most UFC featherweight title defenses in history with 7. A former national youth wrestling champion and 97 kg semi-professional rugby league player, his unique athletic background forged an elite engine and high fight IQ. After first winning the belt in 2019 and later reclaiming it in 2025, his dominant reigns cemented his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Outdoors/Travel What are some great destinations to combine during a 10 day trip to the Balkans?

Hello all!

I am an avid traveller and one part of the world which I have never been to is the Balkans and I am desperate to explore next year.

I have 8-10 days to explore and I would like to see 2-4 destinations. It seems train travel isn't great in this part of the world. I don't mind hiring a car, or even catching 1 flight between 2 destinations, but naturally I want to minimise travel time and maximise exploring, learning and most of all - eating!

I would love to hear from native Balkan people or experienced travellers.

What are the best places to see? and the best route/modes of transport to take?

I personally would love to see Sarajevo and Kotor, but I am open to everywhere!

What are your recommendations of the best destinations to combine and best modes of travel between them?

Language Despite shared Ottoman rule, why did Turkish never become the regional lingua franca?

Russian is the lingua franca of Central Asia because of shared Russian rule, as is French in North Africa. Why didn’t Turkish take on the same role as the language of Interethnic communication in the Balkans?

Politics & Governance What are the possibilities that he Serbian Student List accepts Kosovo's independence , even if not de facto, but de jure, by implementing the Ohrid Agreement?

Is there a chance that the Balkans can now truly move forward with integration into the EU?

Will the Student List of Serbia work harder on finding the still-missing family members of the Albanians from the last war?

Vucic's government was jailing anyone showing humanity and providing information about the mass graves!

Is there a chance to see improvement in this case too?

Will this long war be settled at last?

Is it to be expected more compassion and humanity will come from a party formed mainly from academia!? Or is it to much to yearn for??

Politics & Governance Serbian Elections today, what are our thoughts gang?

Aight I'm a little high and the last time I talked about Serbian political chance I got booed out, but what do we think will happen? Will the Students prevail? Will Vučić cement his power when nothing ever happens? Or are we on the cusp of a Serbian euro-revival?

Wild ride for you Serbs out there, they used sonic weapons on you! That sucks so hard.
And Vučić interviewed a rock. Like a literal one, made of stone. That was interesting. We also had the whole Republika Srpska election side quest. Great that woman won and not Milorad Dodik.

Get out there and vote, Serbia. I hear the rock is still an option, if you don't want Ilija Srdanović or whomever have you in power.

I mean the people would get shot at, but I mean nothing lasts forever. Most countries started with an aristocracy in some form?

Politics & Governance What does the Student List’s victory mean for Kosovo?

Not trying to trigger anyone, genuinely just curious, what does this victory mean for Kosovo? What’s their stance on the issue, and what can we expect going forward?

Politics & Governance What evidence exists of Serbian ‘administrative ethnic cleansing’ against Albanians in the Preševo Valley, and how do local Albanians and Serbian authorities describe the situation today?

I’ve seen claims (mostly from Albanian sources) that Serbia has carried out a form of “administrative ethnic cleansing” in the Presevo Valley, things like undercounting Albanians in censuses, administrative pressure, economic neglect, or policies that encourage emigration and change the demographic balance without open violence.

Is there any evidence for this? How do local Albanians describe the situation, and what do Serbian authorities or local Serbs say in response? Looking for facts, numbers, and sources rather than slogans from either side.

Outdoors/Travel Day trips from Split in late Oct?

We’re looking to visit places like Hvar, Trogir, Solta and Sibernik. Will this still be enjoyable with decent number of restaurants, shops etc open or will they be mostly ghost towns? We’re not planning to swim as it’s obviously cold at this time

Language What's the most typical text a Balkan mum sends?

I'm Italian and I'm making a game where your whole life happens through phone notifications. Right now I'm writing the mum character: all the messages your mum sends you, from the day you get your first phone at 14 until you're old.

The problem is I'm Italian, and I have no idea what a typical mum text looks like in other countries.

Could you help me? Reply with the country you're from and the text your mum sends you most often. I'd really appreciate it, and I'll add the messages you send me to the game.

Culture/Traditional Im looking for someone willing to participate in an interview!

Good afternoon all, I'm hoping you're having a lovely day and that this type of posts are allowed on this sub.

Im a student from the Netherlands (Rotterdam) I study tourism and in this semester the topic is about cultures and comparing them with eachother.

We had to choose a culture and compare that culture to our own one. We also have to set up a interview with someone from that culture to ask some questions about their culture in compare to the Dutch one. I chose the Hrvatska culture because its my favourite one and I love Hvratska!

The interview should be via Whatsapp or another online platform. And it must be filmed but the recording is only shared with my teacher. The exact time is open to be decided together in private talk, but ideally this Sunday.

Is anyone willing to help me out and participate in this interview?

Thanks alot!
