Educational IUD insertion doesn’t have to be horrible!

I had a wonderful woman do my IUD today and just wanted to rave about the woman who are changing IUD insertion! I have a low pain tolerance, was given toradol, felt comfortable the whole time got lidocaine and carevix instead of a normal tenaculum. Did not hurt at all 2/10 mild uncomfortableness similar to the uncomfortableness of getting a flu shot. Find good providers guys!

Side effects!? Anxiety around the pill

• Upvotes

Hi! I recently restarted a combined pill (Larin Fe). I was on it prior from 18-23 and got back on it at 25. My body isn’t reacting to it the same way it did when I was 18 (big surprise) and I had unrelated chest pain that sent me to the ER last week. The doctors did all the work and told me I didn’t have a clot, but since then my anxiety has spiked about that possibility. I’ve been talking to my doctors about it and they won’t give me a definitive answer seeing as nothing is technically wrong, I’m just anxious.

Has anyone else had any health anxiety around taking the pill and if so, did any of it settle or get worse?

To add to it I’m going on my honeymoon out of the country next month and will be on a 12 hour plane ride. I’m already afraid of being trapped on a plane.
I’m debating getting off it again but I’m worried about the effect going on for a month and back off again will do to my body.

Mistake or Risk? Broken condom….what do I do?

• Upvotes

Me and my boyfriend had sex today, October 27. We normally use 3 methods of contraception, Opill birth control, condoms, and pullout. However, the condom broke at some point inside me, and when he pulled out to ejaculate, it was broken. Precum is definitely a concern, as well as pullout is not an effective method obviously, so I’m unsure if any actually got inside of me.

My period is due to start Saturday, October 31, and I am very regular so I’m not in my fertile window.

Should I pick up a plan B? Trusting in just the Opill seems risky.

Side effects!? sprintec

• Upvotes

Hi! Im 20 years old and in may I started my first birth control ever, sprintec. I was started on it since I was having insane amounts of bleeding. Im talking like 10 overnight pads in an hour, alomg with having super irregular periods. If it matters too, I have pcos and addison's disease.

I got off of it in August due to my liver levels being extremely high. Prior to getting on birth control, tmi, I was extremely horny. Its embarrassing to say but I used to be really aroused with a high libido per say?? But when I was on it, my life was miserable. Besides all the other side effects, I have literally become dryer than the Sahara desert.

Now I'm going to be started on progesterone pills but I still struggle with arousal and being wet. For example I can be really horny but be dry down there. Is this normal? Does this go away? I miss how I used to be and I just want to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I know this post is kind of tmi but I'd just like reassurance at this point. Thank you 😭

Side effects!? Started nuva ring 2 weeks ago and suddenly bleeding a lot

• Upvotes

It is an ungodly amount, too. I got up and felt a sudden rush of fluid and thought I somehow peed myself until I looked down and found a murder scene all over my legs. Currently, I'm wearing an adult diaper just to keep from staining everything. The whole reason I decided to go on this birth control is because my gyn said it'd help make my periods lighter, but this is insane. Is this normal?? Do I call my doctor in the morning? It is definitely still in place, I made sure I checked as I was worried it maybe fell out, but it's still there. Anyone have this happen to them? I was at the end of my period when I put my nuva ring in so I'm a little confused as to what could be happening.

Experience Advice for foreplay with implant on

• Upvotes

Hi, I had my implant inserted last July. It has now been three months since. I honestly didn’t expect for my period and spotting to be longer than usual. I mean my period is irregular since my body’s adjusting to the hormone.

I’m just kind of sad since I can no longer ask my partner to go down on me. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Side effects!? Slynd long term?

• Upvotes

HI, Ive been on slynd for dang near 2 years straight and I was wondering if anyone has had any issues?

I had a kid and after I didnt stop bleeding for months and dr prescribed slynd (I aske for one that wont make you gain weight) and have been using it ALMOST consistently. Im taking blood pressure meds aswell and adhd meds and im trying to figure out which might be giving me side effects.

P.s I was cramping really bad for a week and never started my period. I started a new set of slynd after a week or two of not having it. My stomach feels really weird to add to that, usually where I would feel cramps.

Mistake or Risk? Lost a pill, what to do?

• Upvotes

I’m on Sprintec (Norgestimate) and I’m on my last pack before my refill. I’m only on the first week of this pack. I dropped one of the active pills and I can’t find it. I took tomorrow’s pill instead but now I’m worried what will happen when I’ll have to start the inactive pills. Will something happen if I took 20 active pills instead of 21 before starting the inactive pills? What should I do?

Side effects!? Loryna Side Effects: Migraines (with aura = Phantosmia)

I took Loryna on Oct 19th 2026 and the following Wednesday was experiencing migraines with aura (phantosmia: diesel phantom smell/olfactory hallucinations/smells that are not present). Thought we were having gas leaks so I asked my dad and the neighbours and they smelled nothing but someone burning leaves two doors down. I emailed my doctor on October 25th about these symptoms and she asked me if I had a history of migraines. I told her no, not to this degree. Today, October 27th, I am experiencing an eye-watering migraine. I feel like I am going to faint from the intensity.

She prescribed me a progestin only pill after I answered her questions.

I reread the side effects if migraines with aura is a thing with this birth control but it's only migraines.

Posting just in case someone is experiencing phantosmia with me too.

Experience Kyleena IUD bleeding

I got my Kyleena IUD 11 days ago and have been bleeding for the past 8. When I wake up it's barely there, then around 10ish it starts to pick up and get a little heavier. Then around 6 the bleeding is completely gone. I've noticed that the times of these events happening has started to lengthen so hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel? Wondering if anyone else experienced this and if they had any input.

Side effects!? Uhhh no period since getting Kyleena 2 months ago

Hi, is this normal? I had Skyla for 3 years and ran that bad boy down to the last day. I had a semi-regular (monthly) light period and minimal side effects. I enjoyed Skyla, so naturally the company no longer makes it. Now they have Kyleena which is a slightly higher hormone than Skyla but lasts 5 years! Okay I’m in. Little nervous about the higher hormone dose and scary Reddit threads/tiktoks, but with a long previous history of complications with other birth control types. Open to giving a try for myself..

So it’s been two months- the scary threads and TikTok’s are sadly coming true. Painful af hormonal acne, weight gain, & mood swings- which I blame how ugly I’m feeling from the two previous issues..

But the thing I just am curious about. Why haven’t I had a period? Now that’s scary. Anyone else not have one for months upon insertion?

Experience Overthinking

Hey, I am a massive overthinker. I am on day 3 of my placebo pill from birth control and have cramps and headaches but no bleeding. I haven’t had sex since my last period. Just fingering and grinding with underwear on. I am worried that he had precum on his finger when he fingered me though. I am 26F and overthinking it too much. Any advice?? Ahhhh

Side effects!? Alesse and Constipation

GUYS!! This is embarrassing ugh… I’ve been alesse on and off for nearly 8 years. I got off it in Feb 2026 and restarted in Aug 2026. When I was taking it previously I had diarrhea and stomach upset all the time. This time around i literally cannot have a bowel movement. It is SO irritating. Can anyone relate? Or offer any advice? I’m moderately active, take daily probiotics, eat good amounts of fibre. Is this just something to do with the pill now?

Experience Slynd question

Has anyone started this a few days into their period? I know it is best started the first day of your cycle but I will not really be using it for contraceptive purposes - I just don’t want a later start to increase spotting. Also, anyone who has migraines - did it increase frequency/intensity? I’m fine with headaches just hoping it doesn’t send me into a migraine spiral. Thanks!

Which Method? Advice on different forms of birth control.

Exactly as the caption says.

After having the WORST pregnancy scare of my life, I decided I should go back on birth control.

I was on the mini pill (zelleta) for a couple months and it landed me in hospital with severe pain in my ovaries.

so I decided to come off it for obvious reasons.

However, I’m sick of having to buy condoms every time I want to have sex.

My question is, how reliable is having sex on a birth control pill and NOT pulling out?

For extra protection should my partner pull out?

Is that even worth it?

When I was on the pill, I remembered to take it every day but sometimes would take it a couple hours late if I had forgotten (i have a busy schedule)

Another question, if I start a birth control pill when I am NOT on my period, how long should I wait until I start having sex?

Last time I went on the pill, I was on my period but I have literally just finished my period this month and don’t want to wait till next month.

Please send advice, experiences, other forms of birth control recommendations etc!

Mistake or Risk? Depo help?!?

I’m 10 weeks and 6 days into my first Depo shot today. Yesterday, I had an ultrasound that showed a 2.0 cm follicle and a 9 mm uterine lining. I had unprotected sex last night, and I’m feeling SUPER bloated, my breasts feel SO full, and I’m having cramps. I also noticed a little red spotting when I wipe. Has anyone had similar experiences?!?

Edit:: I’m still protected,correct?

Side effects!? debilitating painful cramps after orgasm on nuvaring

i haven’t really been able to find many people experiencing this problem but i’ve recently started back on nuvaring birth control about 2 months ago after being off it for a couple years. i never experienced this the first time around, but every time after orgasm i am experiencing extreme pain and cramping in the vaginal/uterine region. masturbation or sex has essentially become miserable because i am immediately doubled over in pain as soon as i hit the end.

they are worse than period cramps though a similar area and feeling and somehow also make me feel like i’m going to shit myself at the same time but it’s definitely not menstruation or digestion related.

i’m 25 and i am a trans guy who started testosterone a little over a year ago but my doctor made no mention of hormonal interference causing anything like this. but figured i’d mention in case it’s relevant.

i plan to get a sterilization procedure done some time at the beginning of next year, should i just take the ring out and commit myself to celibacy until then lol or should i stick it out in hope it goes away? has anyone else had this issue and did it go away for you?

Experience Period after IUD Placement

TL;DR: I finally got my first real period since the beginning of May and my first after getting a copper IUD. Not a terrible experience.

Some background info:

At the time of posting, I am a 32F who, up until May 2026, had not touched any sort of birth control prior. Early May was the last time I had a true, unaltered period. In late May I started taking Opill (3 packs) but stopped (early to mid-August) because it drastically affected my mental health. While on Opill I would have breakthrough bleeding ever 2 weeks. Once I got off it, I had a 2 week withdrawal bleed then 2 clear weeks before getting an IUD (Silvercare copper mini, September 4th). From this IUD I dealt with a 28-day adjustment bleed (light with mild cramps) where I should have gotten my period about a week after insertion.

I finally got my first real period (Sept 21st) with the copper IUD, here's my experience:

I started cramping the evening before my period started (it started overnight), nothing terrible but definitely noticable. My period itself also wasn't that bad. It went from medium to heavy to medium to light to spotting over 6 days with mild cramps throughout.

This is slightly different to my baseline where I would have a 4-5 day period and intense cramps only in the first 24 hours. And on day 5 of this IUD period I still had light bleeding where I would normally be spotting, the spotting continued into Day 6 with some minor cramping. So overall, only a day longer and actually milder (yet prolonged) cramps.

Rant! Best BC to use

I feel very conflicted. I recently was told to take SLYND birth control but i’m feeling nervous. I have anemia, my hairs falling out fast and in clumps, my periods are super heavy. I cannot take combination pills due to other medical issues. But- I’ve read some reviews showing that SLYND caused extreme hair loss for some. I currently cannot afford to lose any hair. I can’t use minoxidil as I have cats; or oral ones due to health concerns. I don’t know what to do. I need something to stop my bad periods to help my iron levels but also cannot afford to lose anymore hair. Desperate for some advice or help if you’ve used SLYND or another progesterone bc that didn’t cause extreme hair loss.

Thank you.

Which Method? Managing hormonal migraines + neuroproliferative vestibulodynia?

Hi!

I have been on the pill for around 6-7 years now and have been taking the same one ( SLINDA drospirenone-only pill) in the same way for around 3 years : I skip the placebo pills and start a new blister immediately, skipping the week where I'm supposed to have my periods.

This has been effective for my migraines because they always came with the hormone drop that is the period week, it is hereditary and my mom and grandma have been sufferers as well of the same things their whole pre-menopausal life.

After this whole time though, I have been wondering about long lasting effects of such a usage of the pill. ( It was prescribed by a doctor this way )

I am wondering about its effects on libido, fertility, and most importantly physical effects.

I have been diagnosed with neuroproliferative vestibulodynia after years of pain in the vestibule and bartholin's glands area during penetration.

I have been looking for ways of treating this, but to not success so far, and I am now looking into potentially changing birth control method to see if it could change something regarding the vestibulodynia.

But my concern is those migraines! They are somewhat managed and contained now with this method of continuous pill, and I am genuinely terrified of the idea of what they might be like if I stop the pill for something else or to take a break from everything overall. They are very bad and basically leaves me bed bound the whole week, which as an adult is unmanageable.

I'd be so grateful to hear any experience regarding migraine management, vestibulodynia management, or both! Thank you!

Educational Withdrawal bleed vs Period

So, I’ve been on Nikki BC since July, and every time I take my placebo pills, I experience what feels like a full-blown period. I bleed pretty heavily and pass a lot of clots, just like I used to when I had my natural periods. I understand that bleeding on birth control isn’t technically a period but rather a withdrawal bleed. However, I’m confused about how that works because I’m clearly shedding my uterine lining. I thought birth control was supposed to prevent ovulation and thin the uterine lining, so I don’t understand why I’m still experiencing such heavy bleeding and passing so many clots during my placebo week. Thanks for any replies!
