MoodDreams Review X BFI London Film Festival: Tropical Fractals by Leonardo Pirondi

Interview: Ivo Müller - Actor

A small crew of Brazilian archivists are tasked with preserving Earth’s final living remnants and their digital copies in preparation for the planet’s extinction, while a solitary figure wanders its desolate landscape. Elliptically structured, yet meticulously composed, Pirondi’s grainy Super 16mm images lend a tactile immediacy to this speculative world, imagining the future through the material textures of the present.

One of the funniest British films ever. Stellar cast, all acting brilliantly. Ian Carmichael, Terry Thomas, Alastair Sim, April Smith.

Love this scene where TT in classic cad mode steals the girl.

The boys receive some northern hospitality in the "Slaughtered Lamb" pub, awkward, then Brian Glover tells a joke. Love this movie, absolute classic.

My look at one of the most controversial comedies ever made, and a film once voted the second greatest British film of all time.

If the BAFTAs wanted to pay tribute to Mike Leigh for his final film, which 4 actors would you select to pay tribute to him? Which collaborators (or performances) best embody the spirit of his work?

Any word on Shane Meadows film "Chork".

Been a huge fan of Shane Meadows since I discovered This is England. I have made my way through everything I could find and was excited for both The Virtues and The Gallows Pole. Once I heard he was filming a new movie I've been checking almost weekly for any info on Chork. All I can seem to find is that it has wrapped up and supposed to premiere this year, but we are getting close to the end of the year and I have heard nothing else. Anyone have an idea or different info on the project?

Behind the scenes footage of 24 Hour Party People being filmed in Manchester 25 years ago… including shots of the Morrissey character that was never used in the film. What do you think of the ‘Sex Pistols’? They look a bit old!

Just released my new dark comedy short film, MEIN SURNAME. It’s about a guy whose surname is Hitler.

Hello,

I wrote, directed and produced this film independently in London and as per the title I just released it.

The film follows a man called David J. Hitler, who has a problem. A pretty obvious one. Burdened by his notorious surname, he sets out to prove he’s a good person… but quickly discovers that redemption is a harder sell than infamy.

If you’d like to watch the trailer first, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/p0lE9VgXZJU

If anyone has the time to watch I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers!

IJW: Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom (2026)

Not only was this the best sheep-based movie of the year (sorry, Hugh), it is probably the funniest new movie I've seen all year too. Once you're past the incredible detail Aardman apply to their work, the jokes just pile on. For me though it was the nods to countless horror movies, Michael Jackson and even The Wombles.

The fact I wasn't the only middle-aged lone cinemagoer there, and there were plenty of groups of all ages too, highlights how good StS really is.

Get Carter - Is there a better soundtrack?

Watching Get Carter for the first time in a long time: BBC iPlayer. I’m taken with how great the soundtrack is. I tried sampling it in my younger days but couldn’t get it to work.

What other British Film Soundtracks are worth a second (or first) listen?

Is Ectesy of Robert Carmichael the most disturbing end to a Uk movie?

I've yet to see this film.

But my understanding is it has two horrific scenes, one left to the viewers imagination and one, the ending ...it skips the imagination part?

Why Layer Cake is better than Snatch. Spoiler

I thought Snatch was a fun watch but Layer Cake has more originality and unique twists than Snatch does, Snatch has campy Hollywood-like cockney gangsters stealing fucking diamonds, It's honestly repetitive how many British gangster films are about stealing diamonds and bank heists that it becomes a basic Hollywood cliche and not a original story, I get that Layer Cake is based on a book but fucking hell isn't Matthew Vaughn's style unique, that movie is perfect for studying, Daniel Craig's narration at the beginning of the film gives you a very creative idea of how his mind works before the story starts, it is a well crafted and stylish film, it manages to blend a modern stylish and comedic theme with a more intense, honest and ugly unglamorous depiction of the drug trade.

Snatch is only more popular I guess because it's rewatchable and quotable but fucking Layer Cake that is an abused, shat-on and ignored movie I guess for having a bland plot, I don't fucking get why it's style is very different to Guy Ritchie's movies and hardly any British filmmakers have done films about the drug trade I would say the film's plot is more akin to Scarface, Goodfellas or Breaking Bad than it is to Guy Ritchie's work and XXXX is the ultimate anti-Scarface deciding to be completely anonymous to a level of Edward Norton's character in Fight Club and abhoring violence, I definitely understand what he means when he says that loud gangsters in it for a name are those who easily get themselves killed and that it's safer not to have an alter-ego.

I just released the trailer for my British zombie short film, OUTSET

I wrote, directed and produced OUTSET as an 18-minute graduate short film in the UK.

It's a quiet, character-driven zombie story about grief, isolation, survival and human connection.

Nine months after the dead return to life, young survivor Denton wanders the ruins of an abandoned town, until an unexpected encounter forces him to question whether survival alone is enough.

The full film premieres on YouTube 9 October at 7PM UK time.

Would love to know what you think.
