I believe Matas thought he was the face of the franchise under the AKME regime, and now with Caleb Wilson clearly taking the helm of the Bulls and the new leadership of Bryson Graham, it’s evident that Matas is in his head. He looks shell shocked. He looks scared. He is invisible.
Someone needs to set him aside and walk him through his new role. He isn’t the face of the Bulls, be he can still be a star if he just lets go of his leadership role and accepts his responsibility as a defensive player who can make 3s and attack the rim. He just doesn’t seem to know what to do and it’s hurting any chance of the Bulls winning.
I hope I’m wrong and he comes out of this ok, but it’s been pretty glaring how quiet he’s been on the court.

1) Caleb Wilson looked as good as any game he's played this season - and yes, I know he scored 30 in the last one. His effort and impact were better on the defensive end in this one, and he made a lot of good decisions when he got into the paint. He played excellent defense on Tatum, making several strong contests when placed in isolation against him. He showed growth in a lot of the areas that don't necessarily show up in the box score, and that has me really encouraged. His +/- reflects this - he was only -3 despite playing 30+ minutes in a 35-point blowout. Plus, he just looked a lot more confident to me, the way he carried himself on the court while handling the ball - I think he's settling into the NBA and the game is already slowing down for him. He shot 7-15 against a very good defensive team where he had to generate most of the points for himself, and still couldn't knock down a three. Some of those threes will start to go down, and then you'll see some really explosive scoring nights.
2) The Bulls played the Celtics close until they caught fire in the third quarter... so that's good.
3) Besides Caleb's 31:40 minutes of action, no one played more than half the game, so we're well rested. (I feel like I'm grasping at straws here)
Surely I'm missing something. Anyone else have other positives??

Two ideal veterans for a young rebuilding team, both at the Guard position, so as not to hinder the development of our young Forwards; and they can both shoot the rock?
I’d prefer being competitive in as many games as possible, missing the playoffs and getting a high lottery pick. Let’s go Bulls!!!

I think Bulls fans would be wise to withhold judgement on this group until we see them with Nic Claxton.
This team has a ton of issues and one player can't be a savior although Caleb Wilson is definitely doing his best. But one issue that can be solved is with the vertical gravity Claxton has as an above the rim threat.
Not having a rim runner to help open up the floor magnifies the issues this roster has in the half court and strips a weapon from Giddey and Powell as playmakers. I don't think he's solving the defensive issues too meaningfully but the two man game with Giddey is tasty on paper and he'll help the wings as a player who commands a body in the paint. Having another threat on the floor will ease a bit of the burden on the other four starters and I think will take this offense up a notch.

That's what needs to be done IMO. I'm not sure how Giddey and Matas fit with Caleb. Especially Giddey and his non-existent defense. We need to acquire as many assets as possible so we can get whichever star wants out.

This stud figured out how to score 30 points in his THIRD NBA game, on pure hustle, fast break dominance and aggression. This isn’t normal. Especially considering this game is coming off a back to back.
He’s everything that’s advertised. It’s okay to be optimistic. This is the first time in my Bulls watching life that they’ve had THIS type of player. A 6’10 true PF who runs the floor like a guard, is ultra aggressive and desperately wants to punish the rim EVERY TIME he gets the ball near it. Tyrus Thomas failed to be that guy. So did Patrick Williams.
This time is different. We have our franchise cornerstone.

I’m a huge fan but I’m currently living outside of the Chicago market and haven’t been able to watch any of the games (league pass is looking real intriguing tho).
Can someone help me understand how Caleb is being used on defense, as that’s hard to tell in highlights? Seems like he was matched up against AD last night. Is that standard? Is he usually on bigs? How’s his on-ball work been? Is that rare, only on switches (are the switches reluctant?), or has he spent significant time guarding a perimeter ball handler?
I’m just so intrigued by this guy, man. I can’t get enough.
