[Mod-approved] Academic survey: experiences with phone/account inspections during border crossings
We are researchers at Florida International University studying people’s experiences with border device/account inspections, such as being asked to unlock a phone, laptop, or tablet, or to access, open, or discuss an online account at an airport or other official border crossing.
If you are 18+ and have about 5–8 minutes, we would appreciate your help with this anonymous survey:
https://fiu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cBbztJM5u4pZZqK
At the end of the survey, participants may optionally provide contact information for a possible 60 minute follow-up interview. Interview participants will receive a $30 Amazon e-gift card. This study has been approved by the Florida International University IRB (#IRB-25-0573).

Family Affairs (Q1/Q2) Question about 2.3A validity of visa - Edinburgh
Last time I filled in a visa application for my mum I put 1 month (not sure why) and she got a 2 year Q2 visa approved, which makes me wonder what the point of the question is. Now she has had two 2 year multiple entry Q2 visas so she is applying for a 5 year visa.
When I completed the application last week I put 3 months following advice online thinking this meant the date by which you need to enter China. This was approved online, but she is staying from January to May (I stated this in the flight and dates), which is over 3 months!
Either way, it seems like the visa centre ignore whatever you put for that question, they just give you whatever length validity they want?
So I’m confused why they even ask if they seemingly ignore the question.

Tourism (L) Trans Chinese American worried about disclosing trans status on application
I've been trying to apply for a Chinese tourist visa, and it got rejected because they couldn't find a copy of my previous visa, and are now requiring I send in my birth certificate (which has my previous gender assigned at birth) and copy of parents' passports. I'm very worried about disclosing I'm trans, especially in this administration and to the Chinese government, have other trans folks (who have had gender marker changes) applied recently for a tourist visa? Have you had concerns about disclosing being trans?
any thoughts and insights appreciated

Tourism (L) Need Tourist Visa for family
I want to travel to China - Guangzhou and Shenzhen, we are travelling as full family from Delhi.
Me, myself, my parents, my in-law parents. (total 6 people)
I already have US VISA, me and my wife have japan visa (visited last year)
What are the chances for acceptance of china tourist L visa for the whole family given the new workflow of applying directly to Embassy.
Do we need to pre-book our flights if the VISA can be rejected, booking for 6 in advance would be costly.
My profile is stronger enough having ample balances and salary credits with travel history.
My wife is also a salaried person, except US VISA , good history and bank balances.
Help me what should be done in this case.

Visa Free Visa free travel for Canadians next year
Hey. I've taken advantage of visa free travel for Canadians this year and hope to continue next one. I know the current allowance expires December 31. What are the odds that it will get renewed for next year? When will we know
Assuming it doesn't get renewed: I plan to be in Hong Kong in late December, will I have any issue entering the mainland for day trips up until that date when expiry is getting close?
Thank you

COVA Application China Visa Applicants, magkano lang bank balance niyo pero na-approve kayo?
EDITED
We're a family of 4 traveling to Shanghai this November. Both my husband and I are freelancers.
Timeline:
Oct 19-Submitted our online applications and documents
Oct 24-Received an email requesting modifications
My concerns:
I submitted my Wise, Payoneer, and GoTyme statements/certificate, but they requested a different bank certificate. I'm planning to submit my husband's bank certificate and a financial guarantee letter instead. Are digital banks really not accepted?
For our daughter, they're also requesting her sponsor's bank certificate and parental consent, even though both parents are traveling with her.
How much show money is actually needed? For those who got approved, what were your ADB and ending balance?
We've already paid for everything-round-trip flights, hotel, Disneyland tickets, travel insurance, and travel tax.
I'm honestly worried about getting rejected, especially since everything is already paid for. 😭
Has anyone here, especially freelancers, been approved despite having a low ADB or bank balance? I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences!

Tourism (L) FINALLY STAMPED!!!
Hi my dear friends, so I wanted to inform you all that I have finally received my passport stamped with China Visa. We went to the New Delhi Center. It’s a tourist visa, and I would like to share with you all my journey. We filled the online application on sixth of October. We strictly filled the application keeping in mind all the spellings and data correct as per whatever is given in the passport. The online submission did not cause any issue and we could easily do it on our own. I repeat on our own. We needed no agency aid to fill the application form, and I would urge my friends to fill the form by their own
We waited for couple of days as China Visa Centre was closed from 1st to 7th October. We got our online approvals on 17th October we went to submit our physical documents and passports on 19th October and finally today that is 24th October. Our passports are stamped with China Visa, the documents I provided are as follows.
- Six months bank statements where I maintain healthy balance each month
- NOC from my company .
- Three months payslips .
- Three years, ITR.
- Hotel and air tickets confirmed (no dummies)
- I was sponsoring my daughter so gave a sponsorship letter
- Super detailed itinerary and cover letter (signed by self)
- Passport
- Blank page passport
- Proper China visa regulations photo
- If you have any live visa, you should attach that.
And that’s all you need! Don’t worry friends.
I want to tell you all that you don’t need to rely on Visa agents or worry about what they tell you most of the times. They want to scare you or want to fill you with worry, but please understand that my daughter and I did all of this on our own, and we got our visa stamped, and we got our passport back, and now we are ready to fly and have a good time.
Edit1: I got very scared and lost sleep over scary posts about visa rejections for Indians, so my endeavour is to tell tourists (L visa), that with an airtight application, chances of rejection is low. The visa officer has nothing against you. 10-15% chances are that they reject but if you are honest in your application, it’ll be fine.

Study (X1/X2) Anyone in BSc AI / Intelligent Tech at ECUST? Joining late this week (Xuhui) – looking to connect!
Hey everyone,
I’m an international freshman joining the BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Technology at ECUST (East China University of Science and Technology) for the Fall 2026 semester.
Because of visa processing and paperwork delays, I had to take an extended registration approval and I’m landing in Shanghai this week to finalize my enrollment at the Xuhui campus.
Since most people arrived back in September, I’m a bit late to the party and would love to connect with:
Anyone currently enrolled in the AI / Computer Science undergrad programs at ECUST (seniors or freshers).
Fellow international or local students around the Xuhui / Minhang campus areas.
Anyone down to grab food, explore Shanghai, hit the gym, study together, or play some mobile games (PUBG/BGMI).
If there are any active WeChat groups for incoming 2026 international students or the School of Information Science and Engineering at ECUST, please drop a comment or DM me!
Looking forward to meeting some of you around campus!

Business Affairs (M) My China Business (M) Visa Application Experience – Indian Passport Holder | New Delhi | October 2026
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share my experience applying for a Chinese Business (M) Visa as an Indian passport holder.
I’ve seen many people sharing their visa experiences here, and those posts were really helpful while I was going through the process. So I thought I’d share mine as well, hoping it might help someone planning to apply.
I applied for the visa myself through the official China Visa Application Service Centre website for New Delhi.
Online Application & Review:
The online application process was fairly straightforward, but I had faced multiple online review rejections for corrections in my earlier attempts.
Some of the issues included incomplete information in certain fields, invitation letter details, and unclear supporting documents.
One of the rejection messages specifically mentioned: “Please upload clear document (inviter ID or business license).”
After going through these corrections, I made sure everything was properly filled out and all supporting documents were clear before submitting my latest application.
Documents Prepared:
Passport and passport copies
Invitation letter from the Chinese company
Chinese inviter’s ID / company business licence
Supporting business documents
Visa application certificate generated after online review
Passport photographs
My Application Timeline:
October 12, 2026: Submitted my online China Business (M) Visa application through the New Delhi Visa Application Centre website.
October 14, 2026: Online review completed successfully, and I was allowed to submit my passport and documents at the Delhi Visa Application Centre.
The online review took approximately 2 days, which was much faster than I expected considering my earlier experiences with corrections.
October 16, 2026: Travelled to New Delhi and submitted my passport and supporting documents at the China Visa Application Service Centre, Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Connaught Place.
The submission process was quite smooth. The staff verified the documents and accepted my application.
I opted for Express processing and courier delivery, as I didn’t want to travel back to Delhi just to collect my passport.
My pickup receipt mentioned October 22, 2026, as the expected collection date.
October 22, 2026: Checked the online tracking portal, and my passport status had changed to “Posted.”
October 24, 2026 – Final Update: VISA APPROVED! 🎉
Finally received my passport today through courier, and I’m happy to share that my Chinese Business (M) Visa has been approved and stamped in my passport!
The passport was delivered just 2 days after the status changed to “Posted.”
After going through multiple online review corrections and all the uncertainty during the process, it was definitely a relief to finally receive my passport with the visa stamped.
My Experience & Suggestions:
You don’t necessarily need an agent to apply for a Chinese visa. You can complete the application yourself by following the instructions carefully.
Ensure all details in your application match your supporting documents, especially the invitation letter and the Chinese inviter’s details.
Upload clear, readable documents. Blurry copies of the inviter’s ID or business licence can lead to the online review being returned for corrections.
If your online review gets rejected, it may simply mean you need to correct some information or upload better documents, not necessarily that your visa has been refused.
Once your online review is completed, the physical passport submission process is relatively simple if you have all your documents ready.
If you opt for courier delivery, keep your pickup receipt safe until your passport is delivered.
Overall Experience:
My latest application cleared the online review in just 2 days, and the passport submission process in Delhi was smooth.
The entire process went quite well, and I’m happy with how quickly everything was completed after my online review was approved.
Here’s my final timeline:
October 12: Online application submitted.
October 14: Online review completed successfully.
October 16: Passport and documents submitted at the New Delhi Visa Application Centre (Express processing).
October 22: Passport status changed to “Posted.”
October 24: Passport delivered with the Chinese M visa approved! 🎉
Total processing time: 12 calendar days from online application submission to passport delivery.
I’m glad that all the effort and multiple corrections finally paid off!
For anyone currently going through the online review process, don’t get discouraged by requests for corrections. Just make sure your documents and application details are accurate and clear.
Of course, every application is different, and visa approval is never guaranteed, but I hope sharing my experience gives others a better understanding of the process.
Thanks to everyone in this subreddit who shared their experiences and helped me understand the process.
Hope this post helps future applicants!
Good luck to everyone applying for their Chinese visa! 🇨🇳🤞

Business Affairs (M) Visa help
Hi! Can someone help me with the following visa question?
Can I work for multi schools as a sports coach in a short period (2weeks)? The idea is to run a camp for 2 days at multiple schools across China.
I am an Australian, with a business for sports coaching operating in Spain - as I live here.
Each school would pay me/the business or the kids can sign up a pay externally.
Thanks

Study (X1/X2) Changing Z work visa to X1 student visa - Police Check?
Hello. I have been working in Wuxi for 3 years on a Z Visa. In March, I am planning to do a Chinese language course at a University (also in Wuxi) and I need to change my work visa to a student visa. Unfortunately the University has been really unhelpful with answering my questions about the switch, they have only dealt with people who are coming to live to China for the first time, not people who are already in the country and need to switch their visa. They didn't even know if I can do the switch in China or if I need to leave.
So I contacted the Wuxi Public Security Bureau Exit-Entry Reception Hall, they told me I need to leave China, go to a country which has a Chinese Embassy and apply there. But.. they were not able to tell me whether a Chinese Police Check will be sufficient, or if I need to get one from my home country. When I asked them who I need to ask in order to get an answer, they said they don't know...
So, has anyone else been in this situation? Is a Chinese Police Check sufficient or do I need to get one from my home country?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Digital Arrival Card won't allow departure date on last day of 240-hour transit?
Has anyone experienced a greyed-out final day of the 240-hour transit entry when filling out the Digital Arrival Card? And did you just fill in a card after arrival instead?
As I understand the rules (and I really hope I am not wrong...), the 240-hour clock begins at midnight AFTER the arrival time. For example:
1-Nov 18:00 arrival (Day "0")
2-Nov 00:00 start of the 240-hour clock (Day "1")
12-Nov 00:00 end of the 240-hour period (which is 11-Nov 24:00, Day "10")
The passport stamp would therefore read: Entry 1-Nov; Depart by 11-Nov.
When filling in the digital arrival card from overseas in advance, for this example, 11-Nov is not selectable as the departure date.

240 Hour TWOV China
Hello, my planned itinerary is:
United States -> Korea (16 hr layover) -> China (2 days) -> Hong Kong (2 days) -> China (2 days) -> Korea (7 hr layover) -> United States
Would this itinerary count, since I am technically entering and leaving China twice from different countries.
Also, how else can I contact China NIA without a Chinese phone number to confirm this itinerary. This havent responded to my email either.

Tourism (L) China visa (L) at SF embassy
I’m an Indian citizen with a green card. I've applied for my tourist visa on Sept 30th and the visa is stuck in Preliminary Processing.
Are there any others in a similar situation that have had their visas move to Passport to be submitted?
My China travel dates are the first week of Nov and I'm getting concerned it won't be approved in time.
