I just called ahead, and they are apparently rather quiet so far, whereas the other places are swamped.

Public Mobile or Freedom Mobile for the valley?

I'm looking to switch phone plans but I want to make sure I can get decent coverage in the valley. I've had friends tell me that Freedom has some cellular deadspots around town. Is anyone with Public and would you recommend it on the island? Thanks!

Candidate List on Issues

Was there recently a post with a chart showing each Courtenay counsellor/Mayoral candidate and where they stand on issues?

I remember seeing a chart with coloured dots and wanted to review it before the election tomorrow, but I can’t seem to find the post now.

Does anyone have a link to it or know where so can find it?

Bad Movie Night

Hello Comox Valley

I love bad movies. More than good movies. It shouldn't be controversial that Turkish Star Wars is better than American Star Wars.

Anyway, I've been thinking about setting up a Bad Movie Night in the valley, maybe renting out a space for 25-50 people or so and showing some of the best bad movies ever made each month. Things like The Room, Birdemic, Trolls 2, etc...

It wouldn't be for profit, but just to cover the costs of licencing and room rental. I haven't looked in to places to rent yet, so can't really give an estimate for ticket costs.

I'm new to the valley so not sure if something like this has been tried before, or if there would be any interest in it.

Would people be interested in an event like this?

Let me know, I've never done an event like this, so she advice us great

Cheers!

Tax Time Blues

The lady who did our taxes (two of us) has retired. It has been so long with her that I'm out of any loop as to next steps.

We are wanting a non-corporate, non-chain, etc type bookkeeper/tax preparer who can e-file and can do two tax returns comprised of CPP, OAS and a small monthly income from investment funds that are professionally managed and those managers provide a complete tax package.

Edit: thanks everyone.

The hive mind here has helped me in the past...can it do it again?

Companion Care?

Is there any decent company or private service for good, quality companion care for seniors out there? I’m looking for a little help in keeping my old mom company for a couple of hours, a few days a week. All I seem to be finding online are big companies with franchises here and reviews from Nanaimo to Utah.

Are there any retired people out there with patience and kindness that would like a little passive income?

What do people do??

Looking to build more community in my life 31m, any welcoming clubs/events/sports?

Hey! I'm 31m from Parksville but considering moving to the Comox Valley for a younger and more active vibe.

Long story short, I'm a little introverted and shy. So getting to the point of meeting people is a challenge (not impossible lol). I live in Parksville, which I find it difficult to meet new buddies other than my couple from highschool. As well as getting dates.

Overall I'm friendly and decently athletic. Im okay at most sports. I enjoy running occasioanlly, hiking, and having a pint.

I work in fort McMurray in camp, I'm home 2 weeks of the month for reference.

Trish and Manno's views on the Braidwood shelter, affordable housing and the new Lewis Center pool

I'm putting together a chart and these are three issues that I can't find statements for. I would prefer sources and links rather than just hearsay- a FB post from the candidate is perfect. A FB post from your cousin's mom's ex's brother is not.

anyone live year-round on Mount Washington?

Thinking of purchasing a small cabin or condo on the mountain to live in year-round. In the winter I drive down from Campbell River and ski everyday all day from December til April. In the summer I hike whenever the trails are open. I've been considering moving onto the slopes (for the skiing benefit obviously), but just wondering if there are any major downsides to think of first.

The prices and strata fees are alright with me, I hate city life and would be happy to rent the place out during Christmas or Spring break to give some tourists a fun experience. I know I love winter and spring up there, without doubt, and summer is a lovely crowd too. But are the shoulder seasons painfully lonely? Does it become super frustrating to have to kill your engine and breaks every time you need groceries? Big problems with the lodges? Crazy loud from the cats at night?

Thanks for any pointers!
