I work in a small supermarket in a student-heavy area (UK). I've noticed this customer that comes in at least every other day, sometimes multiple times a day.
She looks quite underweight but she's always in here buying LOADS of food - like enough for multiple people for a week. But as well as that, she'll always buy 1 or 2 boxes of laxatives at a time, which is worrying bcs she's in here so often buying them ?? The other day i wanted to see if i could notice anything, and she does have marks on her knuckles but i guess they could be from anything ?? Other than that i don't have much to go off except for how ill she looks, but again i don't want to assume.
Idk if im being paranoid because ive known people with bulimia but it all just seems a bit off. Is there anything i can do ??

Hi
over these past few months I have been struggling with self-body image. Everything food related has been really triggering for me lately and I haven’t told anyone I know irl. These past few days I haven’t eaten anything at all and can’t find myself wanting to eat (I find myself throwing up if I do). I swim with a club team and we practice every day for two hours (extensively) and no longer have the energy to get through the sets.. but can’t solve the root cause. Advice?

I've had eating issues for as long as I can remember, ate like shit when I was in middle school, I was obsese in 8th grade (180 lbs) with severe bulimia issues and it wasn't untill 11th grade that I got healthy, exercised, ate healthy food, three meals a day/stopped binge/purging. Due to this I dropped down to 135 in 11th grade. (I was almost entirely fully recovered from my eating disorder)
I had gotten my period once before in 10th grade, but never again, so when I went for a doctors checkup, she told me that I need to gain weight back to get a period, and eat more fat/carbs and increase to 2,300 cals per day. I didn't believe her, but I gave a half assed attempt. I ended up dropping down to 125, which scared me so I actually started to try to eat more or at least not lose weight. Unfortunately this seemed to exacerbate my binging, and I have a full blown eating disorder again. I binge about 1-2 times a week and constantly think about food, but this time, I force myself to not purge so I don't lose weight. Almost all I eat is fat and carbs, I lowered my activity level drastically, I no longer work out so all my muscle has turned into fat. I am currently at 135 (5'7/17 y), and I have been eating around 2,500 calories fat/carb consistently for about 6-7 months now. I have done 2 rounds of provera (I'm currently in my second one) but they haven't been working.
I feel like I've gained so much weight, and It's so fucking stupid that I was athletic and skinny for about 4 months and then I had to gain all the weight back. When I talked to my doctor, she was saying that I will probably have to gain back to around 145. I feel so anxious about being fat again, especially if this was not actually the problem and I gained all this weight for nothing.
Has any one had similar issues with losing their period even after they recovered? What gave you your period?

37 yr old male here. I need help. For the last ten or so years of my life I severely avoid eating until about 10pm each day, and then I binge. I am scared to eat because if I do something bad will happen. I only eat when I know that everyone else is asleep, I cant be reached, and when I feel psychplogically safe enough to do so. Its causing me issues after work, keep getting dizzy spells, feel physically exhausted all the time. Its starting to stress me out, ive tried to eat during the day but i get so full of fear and panic that I end up just not trying to eat, it is so much easier for me when I feel starved. I need help i dont know where to go or who to talk to

man i dont even know where to start, throwing up hurts in every way imaginable . i genuinely HATE it but yet i do it like five times a day. and with my depression worsening, its kind off the only thing i can bring myself to do. i wish i could just eat without having to worry about whats gonna happen afterwards . i wish i could just eat like a normal person and not have to cry after every bite.
i feel so gross, especially when i have to do it in public, knowing than somone might hear me makes me feel so disgusted. i try to avoid eating in public but my parents always have to bring me to restaurants and cafes, and it feels genuinely impossible to just ignore the cravings when everyone else is eating normally right infront off me.
god i wish i could just starve forever but my brain just itches whenever im not eating .
genuinely how do eat normally without gaining weight?

((Sorry if this violates any rules))
I am 16, F and got out of the ED youth ward a few months ago, i even had my 16th birthday in there. During my time in the ward, my 14 year old sister would make concerning comments like "i wish i could get bad so i can come here too".
Now I am struggling to recover at home. She is constantly speaking about how much weight she's lost and is making effort to body check in front of me. Yesterday she was body checking, and I glanced at her and found her starring at me while she was doing it. She also copies my other unhealthy habits and tries to have conversations with me about them.
I have tried multiple times to tell my Mum, and to get her to at least talk to my sister and tell her how I am getting worse because of what she's doing. But my Mum takes it as me talking shit about my sister. I don't know what to do.

So basically my friend that is 1,64 and she weights 45 i am 162 and weight around 56 kilos i love her and we get along really well just she has always bothered me (without intention) making jokes on her bones showing saying that she never had problems woth her body and that she sometimes says that i eat too much and making jokes on it (i never tell her no so its not her foult probably and i hate telling people about my problems so she probably doesnt know i struggles with eds unless she knows my manners) today she said that she gained weight and she was gonna loose it when i asked how mutch she said she became 46 and i felt like i was gonna faint all the years of my suffering felt like a joke i tried to be as supportive and normal in this situation but i felt every nerve on my body shaking her being so effortlessly skinny always made me feel somewhat desire for a body like hers later o the day while we where sitting together she whispered in my ear saying she ate 500 calories and i kid you not you know when you get up really fast you see black and a little blurry? I had that right there sitting listening to my friend i couldt even respond i feel like shit. Sometimes i think that maybe she knows and she is doing this on purpose i she is a nice person i just dont know how to handle it please advice would be nice

Hello i am 22 years old male, this is my first time ever posting anything like this or trying it on reddit. Long story short i may have an ed but i dont know enough about it. When i was a kid my step dad called me fat in front of my family and i ran to the bathroom and cried im not gonna say that was the defining momment or if that even had anything to do it with. I had a girlfriend in middle school when i was 13 years old and she had a bad ed and actively dealt with it, she would show me movies and just other things i dont know what did it for me and i wish i did but i started to starve myself very slowly im a pretty small guy you can fit your fingers around my wrist but ive always dealt with feeling fat or looking fat when im really not just could be in better shape the lowest ive ever weighed was 98 pounds 3 years ago i dont even know the terms but i am a purger im at the point where i dont even feel hungry i go days without eating and its not on purpose anymore. I have such a hard time eating anymore i think food is gross i think about where it comes from too much i think about meat too much i can only eat snacks and i feel gross and fat doing that. Im sorry to anyone reading this if im being insensitive i dont know how to be politically correct here and thats just how i feel i have respect for the reddit community thats where im here but back to the point. Im writing this now because i have a girlfriend and she told me shes unsure about moving in with me because she can tell i have an ed and it makes her feel jealous she calls me her thinspo and said being around that would make her too sad. I have no problems with that im a grown man i want to get better im far too old to still think its aesthetic as shallow as that is its part of the reason i love it. Thats also another thing i do love it but im ready to change i want to. For context she had it bad in the past and thinks about it and when your in it at this point its a competition no matter what she had to go to the hospital to get appetite appetite stimulants so i was wondering if maybe i should do the same at this point i want to eat and i try but i just cant get more than like 4 bites down before im either full it hurts or i get grossed out. For more context ive never thought it was a problem i still dont but maybe the perspective from strangers will bring me some insight. I dont want to over explain this so ill prolly just stop here but any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you <3

When I was younger I was never picky my parents would call me like a food disposer. No joke I would literally eat everything, and I was never the type to turn anything down except grilled Brussels sprouts. But around 13 years old I started having body image issues and developed an eating disorder. I don’t have very supportive parents to say? They would yell at me when I would not eat and tell me I look bad. They would also tell me I look fat and they have been telling me recently I should stop eating so much and work out. When I started to $h they would tell me to just 0ff myself and get it over with. They also put me in online therapy (it was ineffective imo I felt like I could not tell the therapist how I actually felt because my parents were in the other room but, my parents cancelled because after a month they saw no difference) for my eating disorder and when I look back they would use the therapists recommendations for taking a break from an argument and breathing exercises against me by making me feel like there was something wrong with me. Only recently I have not been worrying as much about my body and trying to form a healthy relationship with food. But, I have hit a wall I have zero appetite or desire to eat and everything just taste disgusting. Even when I am shaking and my sugar is low I still can’t bring myself to eat. I really need help trying to fix if it can even be fixed.
I am sorry if this is upsetting to read because it was really hard to write and reflect back on things I used to do and how people treated me and I’m not even sure if this is the right subreddit to post it in

(F17) For context, Ive had an ed since I was 13, but it’s shifted between specific types (very high restriction and losing 100lbs in five months, crazy ortho for a few years, quick restriction relapse again and then most recently i cant stop making myself vomit after following a massive weight gain caused by insatiable hunger), but the issue with food has been persistent. It’s been awful for my health, brain fog, sensitive teeth, fainting, always cold and all that, but the biggest issue for me is the money. I haven’t gone a day without purging in over half a year, and I bp large amounts of food (and like, LARGE) between 1-4 times a day on average, usually erring on the higher side of that range, and my mom has expressed to me that she cannot sustain this financially, and since I will be going off to college within the next year, I can’t either. Im à healthy weight and all that, but the thing is, I CANT gain weight. Mentally it is worse for me than the eating disorder, last year i was very close to suicide as a result, and my grades dropped significantly (90s->40s-50s). Theyre on an up trend now and stress and happiness wise Ive been doing better! But the fact is it affects my family, my focus, and outings with friends, my health, and my overall wellbeing, so now I just have to stop the binging. There have even been points where I’ve considered smoking as a replacement for my bp habit just because it would genuinely be better for me (crazy work). Does anyone have any advice?? It would be greatly appreciated 😞

Hey everyone 💗
I’m hoping to get some advice from anyone who may have experienced something similar. I’m currently in home-based recovery and spend a lot of time on bed rest.
Lately, I’ve developed very cracked, irritated skin around my tailbone, and I’m concerned that I may be developing pressure sores.
The area is incredibly painful and itchy, and it’s even been waking me up at night. I have a medical air-pressure mattress pad (the kind with the pump), but honestly, I don’t find it very comfortable, and I’m not sure it’s helping much. I’ve also tried using lotions, but I’m still struggling with the discomfort.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there anything that helped? I’m planning to discuss it with my PCP on Monday, and unfortunately, the nurse who usually comes to my home daily won’t be back until then, and I’m really uncomfortable in the meantime.
I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you! 🩷

hello all,
two weeks ago my best friend since i was 9 years old committed suicide, she was 26, as am i. i had a very restrictive ED when i was 17 which i finished treatment for at 19 years old.
at 23 i had another flare up of severe restriction which lasted 9 months.
this past few weeks have taken my almost decade long history with restriction to new levels. i have managed a deficit of 15000 calories in 16 days even though i’ve been mostly in bed.
i feel guilty and gross that during my immense grief i still find a little joy because i have been eating so little, reliving that sense of control.
i just feel lost. i’m 26 now, have a job and doing my masters and the harsh reality that i’m not a teenager anymore and can’t cope as easily with my levels of restriction is setting in. i feel i can’t stop now. i miss my best friend. life is shit. i can’t believe how much food and calories have been in my mind while trying to process the death of my best friend.

Hi guys So basically I have been living alone in a different country for about a year and now I have to move in with my family. Living alone made it so much easier to manage my calories and everything related to my weight and body because I didn’t have to hide anything or pretend around anyone.
The problem is that this ED is still taking over my life, and I still feel like I have so much weight I need to lose. And now that I’ll be living with my family, I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to cope. My mom cooks dinner every night so I won’t know the exact calories in my food. I won’t be able to pace around the house constantly to get my steps in either. It feels like everything is being taken away from me.
Another thing I’m really worried about is how my ED might affect my family. Most of them are overweight, as I used to be and they enjoy eating together and don’t have any concept of cals. I don’t want my eating disorder to make them self conscious about their own weight or eating habits, or even make them feel like they need to change themselves because of me. At the same time, I know they will notice if I suddenly start refusing food or acting differently around meals and I’m scared they’ll catch on to what’s really going on.
I have no friends too, and I feel like I’ve been living such a secretive disordered life that I don’t even know how to function around other people anymore. How am I supposed to cope with not knowing my calories, not being able to exercise as much as I want, and having to eat around my family without feeling like I’m losing control?
I know this isn’t healthy, but the thought of losing control over my food and exercise genuinely terrifies me. I feel so overwhelmed right now and I honestly don’t know what to do. Has anyone else been through something similar? I really need advice because I feel like I’m losing my mind.

I have a friend who has become more and more uncomfortable to hang out with and trust. She knows i've been in & out of the hospital, struggling with my mental health and my ED. Every time we hang out (with our friend group or just the 2 of us), it feels like she is observing EVERYTHING i do especially when I eat, and even sometimes announces to people that she's copying me, takes pictures of me with food, and just seems OVERLY interested in my habits- especially around food. It's super weird and she has started doing things that trigger me, like ordering the smallest thing on a menu, talking about how full she is, and asking questions about my eating. In the past, she'd talk to my family about things I do (not out of concern) even after I express my discomfort with her doing that too. I'm really not sure what to make of it, but I definitely don't like hanging out with her right now- which is hard when we are in the same friend group, and she pushes me to hang out. She'll also apologize and claim she would never do anything to make me uncomfortable. Idk. It seems to me like she might be entering ED territory too, but i'm really not in a place to deal with that because I'm trying to work on myself and better my life.

I (22f)who weighted about 169lbs in June and weighted 149 lbs currently, manage to lose 20 pounds in past three month and made my bmi from 27 to 24, eventhough everyone around me said I look better and my dietitian said I done a amazing job in losing weight. However I felt that my diet is fucked up,I am afraid of calories, and afraid to eat out at place that doesnt has calorie menu and avoiding to eat out with my friends and go home and eat my mom’s homemade meals because I cant use a food scale to weight it,I cant see calories,I cant control how much oil is being added. I weigh myself everyday after everytime I eat including drinking water, and first thing I got home is weighing myself, and I restrict my daily calorie to under 1000cal. yesterday I just recovering from a really bad hangover and after I threw up everythings I had for dinner last night,I decide to eat some Chinese style chicken porridge, eventhough I felt much better from eating that. But there’s a voice in my heart that goes like ”you fat bitch, why are you eating carbs at morning, you should eat protein bar or boiled eggs, dont use your hangover as an excuse, stop being so sensitive”

How much weight would a human girl age 20 167cm and 60kg lose after 12 days with no food? And would that person be noticeably thinner ?
r/eating_disorders • u/Entire_Weather3209 • 3d ago
Having my ED gave me a condition that causes fainting, a lot. Like excessively. If I recovered, it would honestly get much better and I would admittedly not be in this position. However, that would take months and I would never be fully normal either. I could get close to it, but certain things like heat/hardcore workouts/fasting anything in that nature would never be an option
I want to be clear, that I am not judging people who use a wheelchair regardless of their reasoning, but as somebody who now needs one because of how often I faint unless I recover, it’s impacted me way more than I’d like to admit mentally
I first got told my fainting was a problem and that I needed one back in June, but I honestly ignored the advice. That was until August, when it no longer was an option. I usually don’t need to use at home since it’s shorter walks (bed to toilet/couch, whatever) but if I leave my house now I need it. I’ve tried not to use it because I get embarrassed about it but I usually just pass out in parking lots and stuff which is really gross/embarrassing in it of itself
I’ve had an ED off and on since I was 13, this has never happened before. I mean sure I’ve fainted before, yes, but that was even in recovery and not often. Now it’s like.. if I restrict even for too many HOURS, I will become bedridden entirely (even using the wheelchair can become too difficult if I stop eating). I know that for some people that would make them want to recover, but honestly it’s just making me depressed. I know it sounds like it’s not a big deal, but for me it really is. Like even with small stuff, I have to wear a necklace in the shower in case I pass out (even while sitting) because if I fall/don’t respond it’ll call an ambulance (if I respond it won’t but if it’s been like 10 minutes of no response it will). The average persons age who uses that is literally somebody in their 80s. I know because they told me, I’m 26. I didn’t ask them by the way, they just randomly said it 😭 Like this isn’t what I ever wanted. My cardiologist told me this is the most severe case of it he’s ever seen, and I literally know my ED is why. Because if I eat consistently for a few days, I get better relatively quickly (still probably couldn’t stand for super long but there is a difference). My PT/OT (I did some while in the hospital a while back) told me that for me, I’ll probably need all my workouts to be lying down. That maybe I can work up to them sitting down longterm, but standing is not an option. I used to do CrossFit twice a day, I mean it was years ago and before my ED but like jfc I wasn’t always like this. I don’t know anybody else in my position.
Everybody I know either had way scarier complications than me that cause death (mine will not, I am not dying) or their symptoms just don’t look like mine at all. Mine does still impact me a lot though, like day to day. I can’t pretend it doesn’t. And to be honest, being around “healthy” people right now just triggers the shit out of me, and it sounds dramatic I know, but I usually cry about it later lmao. It also kills me inside because I am still objectively fat, my cardiologist and neurologist (the condition is something kinda related to both that my ED caused) both told me that weight loss being too rapid was “traumatic” to my body and why I got what I did. But it’s painful for me emotionally because I see all these fucking people get healthier from rapid weight loss from GLPs (I did not use GLPs) and there’s all these commercials like “LOOK AT HOW MUCH BETTER MY LIFE IS NOW ✨🌈” when I did the same thing just with a different method and it ruined mine 😭 I’ve turned off ads for it on Reddit but they’re just everywhere 😭
Also because I’m ambulatory as a side note, while it’s never happened I’ve always been afraid of somebody getting angry with me for using a wheelchair in public since I’m not paralyzed, because that’s crossed my mind a lot. I already am not dealing well with my emotions behind it and being judged openly would be very unnerving for me. But I legitimately can’t walk a store or restaurant, I promise I’ve tried. I just wind up on the floor which is way worse 😭 MY SOLUTION THUS FAR, has been to simply come with excuses on why I can’t go to any places that aren’t like.. doctors offices or medical whenever possible. I probably can’t do that forever though

Im a 15yo boy & i been wanting to be overly skinny for probably a year now and I recently have been noticing a drop in my weight due to not eating as much as i probably should. I try to eat around 200-800 calories a day but im not like starving myself bc some days i eat totally normal without feeling guilty about it afterwards but other days I cant eat anything without checking the calories or eating small portions of it. It's been affecting my life at home because I tend to leave the house to skate during dinner time to avoid having to eat so my mom yells at me alot for that. Idk if my parents know that im not eating normally but my grandma noticed the other day and said that i looked like I had gotten skinnier. Whenever I eat chips or anything ill count how many I am eating and when im drinking a soda I only have half of it and I just feel like I cant eat anything without feeling guilty. Im 6'0 125ish but idk if i have a ed or if im just not eating as much because of something else

I h8 them. I can't do this.
Empty space. More room for thought.
Uses stress and muscle memory for energy.
The serotonin builds up.
There's no need to eat when you're on cloud nine.
When you're numb and in your head.
You lose yourself, until you have a bite.
The truth becomes clear, it's eye-opening and confusing.
I do love them after all. I can do this.
