Obviously this is a thought shared by one individual, but I have noticed there is truth to this as a common trend.
It seems like thereโs this general expectation that Ethiopians should be more accommodating of other cultures when it comes to dating and marriage. From what Iโve seen, weโre actually fairly open-minded, although there are certainly people who prefer to stick to their own.
I think some of this criticism comes from the fetishization of Ethiopian beauty and the expectation that we should be open to dating outside our culture simply because others find us attractive. But that doesnโt necessarily mean someone understands or appreciates our culture, identity, values.
I donโt think Ethiopians should be criticized for wanting to preserve their cultural identity when choosing a partner.
Curious to hear what others think.

The beautiful tradition of Ethiopian Jewry (Beta Israel), this is "Sabat Sanbat"-the "Sabbath of Sabbaths."
What is Sabat Sanbat?
The Cycle of 7: Starting from the first Shabbat of Nisan, every 7th Shabbat is celebrated as a unique milestone of elevated holiness.
Community & Spirit: It is a sacred time dedicated to deep prayer, Torah learning, family gatherings, and strengthening community bonds.
The Ultimate Peak: There are 7 of these special
Saturdays throughout the year. The 49th Shabbat (7x7) represents the highest peak of holiness in the yearly cycle.
Shabbat Shalom! (Courtesy of my sister Birhan Libma , amazing bread)

They are also among the least genetically homogeneous ethnic groups in Ethiopia, so I wonder how many of them are descendants of people from various ethnic groups who were assimilated through this process ๐ค

I was fortunate enough to escape the country at a young age and live in the west (not claiming the west is perfect). I have my moments of nostalgia, which makes me want to remember the old times and perhaps visit the country at some point. However, every time I see stuff on social media and my limited in person interactions with other Ethiopians, it reminds me of the extreme conservative nature of the country. The extreme obsession with religion and the inability of many to respect other people's privacy, which is extremely off putting.
I am always torn between completely forgetting everything about the country and remembering some of the good things I like about it since it's part of me after all. I know that the country will become truly secular over time, but it can be a lot to handle right now. I just want the country to be a more peaceful country where people just focus on living their lives without trying to dictate everything that isn't their business.
I have reached a point where I can't have a functioning relationship with many Ethiopian people I meet because religion, conservativism, and not minding one's business are going to be the core components of the relationship I have with them.

Itโs quite a beautiful site to see such a joyous celebration of an Ethiopian holiday in the religious capital of Jerusalem. May these celebrations of faith continue to thrive for centuries to come.
Jerusalem remains as a holy site for many followers and welcomes Ethiopias orthodox Christianโs with open arms.

Hello, my friends! My beautiful wife and I just got married and weโll be having a Dabo Sim Ceremony! We plan to propose a few silly and serious English names; however, Iโd love some recommendations for Amharic/Ethiopian names that would be funny and endearing to surprise her family with. Many blessings to you all!
UPDATE: We landed on Mariam Werk!!! Thanks for all the kind words!

Some ethiopians especially men have this tendency of calling other Africans monkeys when they fight or argue online.. Why? If you really love yourselves there is no need to bash other Africans...

Itโs 2026, and although I am not Ethiopian-born only married to one I have a question: When are you all going to realize that tribal and ethnic conflict is nothing but a foolish way to keep destroying your own lineage? The kings, chiefs, group leaders, and politicians who incite the violence are not the ones dying. For a country that has never been invaded or colonized, why canโt you set aside your differences, reconcile, and live together preserving and passing on the culture and traditions you have?
Now I understand why my previous driver once told me I was a fool to hope and believe that things would change. I really want to explain what happened a few days ago around Meskel Flower people getting stabbed because of ethnic disagreements but doing so would only create more problems here, with everyone trying to justify their actions based on where they align.

Are there still tattoo artists who do Weqato/Nikisat?
What natural needles and plant based ink is it, and which medicines are added into the Weqato/Nikisat?
