I regret buying my F150

I bought a low mileage 2023 F150 platinum powerboost last winter (2025, 13k miles). The electronics on mine have been constant frustration. I'm already $600 into repairs with $1000 in diagnostics planned and I just started getting module alerts from my lights. It won't update which seems like a major safety issue (it hasn't updated since 2024), but Ford corporate and my local dealership don't care and have declined to offer any level of coverage.

I finally bought the truck I've always wanted and it feels like a time bomb in my driveway. Thinking about my 2023 F150 platinum literally makes me feel sick to my stomach.

A little before and after.

On level ground no rub at full turn with no level or lift.

I'm sure they would rub some at full turn if they were compressed some.

Anyways just wanted to share that I'm super surprised theres no rubbing. Overall love the new look.

New baddie

Just picked this baddie up today. 2026 f150 STX 200A.

Looking at the prices on this sub makes it difficult to swallow that we paid just under $75k for this after taxes etc.

Located in BC and got around 20 quotes from dealerships all across the province, this one was a two hour drive and came out to approximately $60/month less than the second lowest quote we got.

Crazy, just crazy. We hope to keep it for 10+ years.

Already bought some mods with the wife at 4’10, definitely needing running boards etc.

That fluid film smell after the first drive :) Winter is coming.

  • tarp on the driveway
  • air compressor
  • cheap amazon undercoating spray gun
  • cheap 360 spray extension wands
  • last year's leftovers and a fresh gallon of fluid film
  • gloves/rags
  • trash clothes
  • 3-4 hours depending on the prep
  • ready for another salty Ohio winter

I'm sure it takes a lot less time with a lift but it's not a bad driveway job and I'm sure it saved me a few hundred bucks.

I swapped my instrument cluster

I’m an amateur at this so I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing but i swapped my old instrument cluster in my 2013 f150 XLT for one from a 2013 lariat and now it does this (this was just letting off the brake)

For more context
I have a 2013 F150 XLT 5.0 supercab and I bought an instrument cluster (mine broke) from a website called BParts that has the full screen instead of the small lcd screen which came with my truck everything seems to work fine other than the gas gauge and speedometer. I have recoded the new instrument cluster for the correct mileage so it is possible that I accidentally deleted some code without knowing.

Found a good deal on a STX dark trail. Was always a Chevy guy until I married into a Ford buying family. Spent enough time around these f150s and found out they are contagious lol. Anyways - love the truck and am happy to be here

Two videos 1 from driver side inner fender and another from driver side engine bay. I do believe the right side has an exhaust manifold crack of some sort but this sound seems new to me.

Updating Tire Size

I am putting new tires (285/75 R18) on my truck and will be updating the size using Forscan. What other modifications do I need to make to have the truck function as best as it can and avoid any error codes. I’ve seen PCM and TCM relearns? Anything else? 2019 5.0 lariat 10spd with 4WD.

Thanks!

Hey Ford, while I can afford this, I will never pay you 80k for a truck, then subscription fees to unlock something the truck already does. Sseriously, you can f#ck all the way off.

Transmission troubles

Post image

2018 5.0 xlt 120k Got on the highway for the first time in a while and the truck felt like I was hitting mini patches of rumble strips constantly. I get off and it continues to do it and shift a bit rough. I found an old forum post that says use sport mode to make the shudder stop (it does stop in sport) but in sport mode it is shifting even rougher especially 3-4 and on cold starts. I have a transmission service scheduled Friday to get fluid checked/changed and an additive put in. How cooked am I? Just get a remanned 10r80 or hope this service makes it better and trade it in?? What do I do I’ve only had it for 6 month or so 😭

Parasitic Draw - 2019 F150 2.7L XLT

I recently purchased a 2019 F150 2.7 XLT. The truck has a parasitic draw, and the shop I took it to narrowed it down to fuse 33 (labeled as just "radio"). It is a pretty heavy draw, and will typically fail to start after not driving the truck for 36 to 48 hours.

The mechanic quoted me $1,400 to send the audio control module (ACM) back to Ford to repair and reprogram. This seems excessive, and I'm not sure there isn't a better option. Has anyone come across this issue? If so, and you were able to fix it, what finally fixed it for you? I know of a company called Simply Michigan Infotainment that sells preprogrammed AGM and APIM. I'm not certain which one it is.

Does anybody have any guidance on this?

Weight carrying vs weight distributing - when did you actually need to switch?

Not asking what the difference is, that's well covered. Asking where the real line was for you.

What were you towing, behind what, and what made you decide the standard setup wasn't enough anymore? Was it sway, squat, the manufacturer telling you to, or someone at the dealer?

(Rhino USA, curious how much of it is spec and how much is feel)

2016 2.7 XLT Wiper Question

I replaced my windshield wiper linkage, motor and arms with the Dorman ones. They go up and down perfect. But when turned off they go down as normal, then back up like 25% of the windshield. Is there something I missed so the wiper doesn’t go back up that 25% and just rest at the bottom like normal?

Sensitive auto high beams? 2026 XLT 2.7L

Does anybody else have this problem? The auto high beams are so sensitive that they turn off for a porch light half a mile down the road. They are on and off so much that they are mostly off unless I’m on a road with no other cars or lights at all. This can’t be normal. I had a Toyota before this and they put this to ”feature“ to shame. I cleaned the exterior window where the camera is at the center top and still the same thing.

Snow tires

After a bunch of research on snow tires, I finally decided the blizzak dmv2 tires would suit my needs. Started calling around for pricing, and apparently, they are discontinued. The new versions are called icepeak. I wasn't a big fan of the less aggressive tread pattern, but I decided to go ahead and order them through the nearest Costco.

Now I see that costco won't install tires if the load or speed ratings are lower. My current tires are 116T, and the blizzaks are 116R. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will they still install them, or do I need to cancel the order and go with another option?
