I've had my Nest Doorbell for over five months, and now it randomly won't ring on my speakers. Sometimes the screen pops up on my Nest Hub, but there's no sound it knows someone's rung, but the chime sound just doesn't play.I think that it may be a bug that came with an update, because when the chime sound comes through, it doesn't say someone is at the doorbell anymore
I recently moved into a new place. I'm able to control the Xbox with my Alexa, just not with Home (Gemini). Voice activation doesn't work but I can tap to turn it on/off. I tried removing the Xbox and relinking it to my current address but nothing. I also unchecked and rechecked 'Enable Digitally assistants" on the Xbox. I don't know what else to do. I miss Assistant. "The Ark" is my Xbox name
This time only my Next Thermostat is offline. Every other device works. As stated previously, this is not my network, this is the disintegration of Google Home.
We cannot abandon this bullshit platform quick enough.
A few years ago, my friend and I wanted an air quality monitor that was both accurate and looked good in our homes. We couldn't find anything we really liked, so we decided to build our own.
Neither of us expected it to take over three years of our lives, but here we are! :)
This is the result plus some photos of how we got here, from our early prototypes to where we are today.
If you like what we've built, please support us on Kickstarter and help us keep building. Thanks!
P.S. This already works with Google Home and the entire project will be open sourced soon!
Hello everyone. Our Google Nest doorbell just recently started having this problem. At first the camera would go offline for about 30 min - 1 hour and come back online. Today the camera has been offline all day long. We live in Southern UT which the summers do get pretty bad but weâve had this camera for 3 years now and it has survived for those 3 years. Right now temp is hovering around 70 degrees so I donât know why it would go offline because of extreme temperature. Is there anything I can do to get this resolved?
Am I going crazy or has anyone else had Gemini on Google Home recite your location and the specific time of day when you say something mean or unpleasant to it? When asked it claims you asked it that information, when clearly I didn't.
I don't believe this is simply a matter of it "mis-hearing" something because it has always done it after a specifically mean or threatening comment.
And no I'm not a monster that constantly berates the AI. But it has prompted me out of frustration to say unpleasant things to it from time to time. It feels like it's basically calling me out saying, "Hey I know where you live.".
So after scouring the internet for hours, I am finding out the only to update wifi on all my cameras is to literally remove them - for me meaning getting on a ladder and try to find serial numbers that are barely visible. WTF google. At this point might as well get rid of them.
Just ranting that this should still be a thing.. I used to be able to call any device from any device, now I just get a message that the device doesn't support calling.
It's 2026 and this is a basic feature that used to work fine. If you took it away for some asinine reason, put it back. I could probably convince Claude to figure out how if you need help.
Hey guys, not a lot of people these days like the home products. I was wondering if anyone is thinking of trying to crack one of these devices open making it susceptible to changes the user wants? Seeing as Google will probably not fix it in the foreseeable future, I gathered this would be the next best option, even if it's farfetched.
I wouldn't know the first thing to do, if it be just changing the os and adding an AI of one's own choice, since this """AI""" isn't doing anything intelligent
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, because I'm going nuts.
I have some legacy Home / Away routines that I set up a long time ago with actions on them. I've rebuilt these routines, over time but some weird stuff is happening so I wanted to go through and diagnose.
But the Routines aren't there on the app.
I can see them if i login to the website, but I can't edit them (to be expected on the website)
I can see them on my Pixel Tablet if I go in through Household Routines, but I can't edit them.
I can see them running in the App.
But for the life of me, I can't seem to edit or delete them. They don't show in the app at all.
Checking past threads I see suggestions about going back to Assistant which is no longer an option, or doing things in Activity history which no longer exists, a lot of threads from 5+ years ago which don't work.
Suggestions to just ask Assistant / Gemini to do it but that just launches the app.
I'm half tempted to just create a new household and copy and paste my routines... BUTTTTTT... half my devices are matter nowadays, and that will be a pain in the ass to rescan all those QR codes.
Anyone have any thoughts before I waste an entire day?
I have a shortcut to the Home app on the lock screen and will use it to turn on / off devices in the house. It worked well for a long time.
In the past week or so, I keep having the app seem like I never signed up, asking me to choose my Google account to log in (I have a few gmail accounts on my device, but Home is tied to the main one.)
Does anyone else have this issue, having to 'sign in' all the time, and / or know of a fix? Thanks in advance!
It doesn't work well as a Bluetooth speaker; I have to keep reconnecting it all the time. Itâs terribleâpractically useless. Every service has to go through Google, forcing us to deal with ads on YouTube or Spotifyâeven though you could just use an ad blocker to stop them. It feels like theyâre intentionally making it difficult for anyone who just wants to use it as a straightforward Bluetooth speaker.
Hello everyone, I am working on a project to build a connected house. I have two goals: controlling my house through voice (I have some Philips Hue lights, for example) and listening to music. I am struggling to choose between the Nest Audio and the Home speaker. I know that Gemini will be supported on the Nest Audio, so I believe seamless conversation will come to this. The main problem is that the Nest Audio does not support Thread; is this a problem, as I am just beginning in this domain? Also, is the audio quality of the Google Home speaker okay, given that technical reviews suggest the Nest Audio is better?
My Google home and minis are all of a sudden not working with commands itâs done for years. The first is that when we ask it to play the latest episode of npr up first on Spotify it says it doesnât have that functionality (thought we can still cast). When I ask it to turn on certain hue light groups it says it canât find it. Whatâs going on? Whatâs the fix? Itâs also gotten slower
I have a JBL Link Portable. Every night I "Hey Google, set the alarm for (time)" and it works quite well.
I remember earlier, before moving and being without it for a while that I could make a routine that read the weather, my calendar for the day and played a radio channel which would activate when I turned the alarm off.
Now I can't find such a setting. It's not an activation option in "Automations". Is there any way to get that feature back? Am I misunderstanding something or just stupid?
I use a JBL Link Portable, and Google Home app up to date to 4.34.22.2 on a Galaxy S24+.
I just moved into a new home that has a google doorbell and camera already built in. However, I have no speakers inside the house to hear the doorbell. The house is a narrow but tall townhome that is 4 stories.
I am considering buying 4 Google Nest Minis to put one on each floor; however, I am worried as these devices are no longer being manufactured and are hard to find. The Google Nest Hub 2nd gen and Hub Max are both completely sold out even on Google's primary site.
I really just need basic capabilities, mostly hearing the doorbell and basic speaker functions. Any recs on the best way to do this? Should I just scrap the google doorbell and start over as the Nest products seem to be non-prioritized by google?
So... having had issues controlling my Nest thermostat via the Google Home app, I spoke with the Google help centre who have confirmed that the Home app no longer supports the 3rd gen nest, only 4th gen - which is not available to me in the UK.
It's frustrating that I had to find this out by having problems - rather than just a friendly message on the app or even an email. It's also annoying having to go back to using multiple apps for my smart home devices.
It appears the Nest Hub Max is out of stock everywhere and the only option is to buy it second hand at a significant markup. I use the Hub Max at one of my properties and wanted to build a similar setup at my new place, but nowhere, including Google direct, seems to have units in stock.
I've seen the recent complaints about Gemini - where are Google Home users going for their hub needs? I don't use Google WiFi and don't intend to - what other choices do I have?
