Be aware that today is opening day of spring turkey hunting season in Maryland. Wear highly visible clothing if you are trailblazing the woods for morels or trout fishing the creeks.

Overflow

Where is the Greenridge State forest overflow? Is it here? I've been camping in the forest for years but I always thought this belonged to Little Orleans campground which is now Ridge Rider.

Long pond trails backpacking?

Hi all! First time poster (on reddit, not just here). Wanted to ask about a couple of trails I would like to go to with my wife to do an overnight backpacking hike in the near future. Are the long pond trails (deep run, and flat run specifically) generally not busy or do they get busy on weekends? And do you pre-register the same way as the other campsites? We've been trying to find nearby trails to backpack and it's hard in Maryland. We've done the AT sections a few times.

Why was I not able to include an image in my reply to another thread?

I wanted to add this image in my reply to a post about "getting lost looking for the sites". I was able to map all of them from Google maps.

Every time I go I get lost

I have not been able to find a reliable map. I know they have the ones you can print online but they are horrible quality and don't make it clear how to get to a particular site. does anyone have like the gps coordinates for each site, or is there a trick to navigating to a specific site? last time I went it was my mistake when I got lost and I would like to not make a fool of myself again

How long can you stay camped in one spot in GRSF?

Thinking about doing some extended camping. For how long can I stay in one spot in GRSF? I know some parks have a 10 or 14 day maximum, before you're asked leave for 10 days. Do people tend to just camp for a few days here, or do some people stay for weeks?

Camping/Fishing Spots

Sorry if this has been covered already, but I am planning on heading down tomorrow, and just curious about spots that may have decent fishing access but also some more solitude than other spots. My major bottleneck is that I am in a sedan so not sure if i can get to every spot. I have been to green ridge before, but never been camping, hung out a lot around white sulphur pond so maybe would like a new spot, just me and my dog going so no need for a big group spot.

Also can anyone dm me the contact info for the firewood guy that I keep seeing in this sub, would really appreciate it. Or other places in the area to pick up firewood maybe?

Thanks!

Thank you all who gave advice on finding a site for this weekend. No one froze to death and the only casualties were a rain fly and a couple of tent stakes (apologies if you find them after the thaw, it was a lost cause.)

The roads in through 15 mile creek rd were almost immaculate. No ice walls in front of the sites.

If we learned anything this weekend. It is that everything will freeze. If it doesn’t have alcohol in it, it will absolutely freeze. Your cooking oil, everything 🄶.

Snow camping Advice needed

So my maniac buddies and I have a winter camping trip planned in two weeks. Considering the incoming snow, and temps remaining below freezing, how impossible it is to get to the decent sites? I’m seeing up to 8 inches of snow in the area coming in the reports. I don’t know if any of it gets plowed or driven on, what the road conditions up there will be like. We all have all wheel drive or 4x4 trucks.

Any advice on this madness will be appreciated.

Thank you

Hey does anyone know where I can find stickpile tunnel? I’ve been to greenridge a few times and am looking to explore some cool stuff off the beaten path. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Camping w/ dog during muzzleloader season this weekend (10/17-10/19)

Hello all. I’ve never camped in Green Ridge but was hoping to get away this weekend with my bf and hound dog. Unfortunately, I saw that it’s muzzleloader weekend in MD, and although I don’t know a ton about hunting, I do know a muzzleloader is a gun. My pup can be a bit of a chicken when it comes to gunshots. So I was just wondering if anyone can speak to the typical frequency of shots heard and general experience when camping during this particular weekend in the hunting season. Or are there maybe any areas in the forest that are less prone to such activity? Also open to suggestions of other fairly secluded, western MD area camping options that are more sound-sensitive-dog friendly. Thanks!

Why so full? Empty sites?

I’ve been coming here for about 15 years, and it never used to be so packed. I’ve missed the last two seasons, and my husband and I went up this weekend only to find there weren’t even over flow left.

Also, we noticed a ton of empty sites (it’s 10:30 pm) that were reserved on the sheet. What’s up with that?
