Greco Roman happens from 24th to 27th October. From 27th to 30th October will be Women's Wrestling. From 29th October to 1st November is Freestyle. I will update match timings as they come as they don't release Mat Order until a few hours before the matches start. Just for information all matches from Qualification to Quarter finals happen in one continuous period and then semi finals happen later on the same day before finals are played the next day.

I am going to include my thoughts on each of the days events.

Greco Roman:

I was going to do a day by day summary but I don't think our greco roman contingent deserves that. I think it was last year during Senior Worlds when there was a controversial video showing the greco roman contingent out partying and sightseeing days before senior worlds. Now usually I do not fault players who want to sightsee but at least do it after the tournament and not directly before you play matches. Why are you celebrating before doing anything.

Our Greco contingent again this year has disappointed the only bright light we have had is Lalit Sehrawat who got 5th at worlds. I am interested to see how he can grow as he is still only 23 years old and hopefully qualifies for the olympics.

Nitesh Siwach and Sunil Kumar are especially disappointing cause they lost to some very subpar opponents in such a horrible fashion despite being super experienced wrestlers themselves it really puts shame on them.

The fact only lalit won any bout is a big shame considering we have even been hiring foreign coaching for Greco starting this year. I don't know where this contingent will go from here and how they will improve.

October 27:

Now this was an incredible day for us and fully shows why our womens wrestling contingent has been doing well at age level world championships.

Let's start with Neelam she had done as expected from me to make it to the QF by beating the Belarusian 6-0, and then we know what happened with the Russian and the eye pokes and now unexpectedly we have a finalist from 50kg as she beats the 7-3 in the semi finals. Now this was completely lucky for us imo, our draw was amazing since the best wrestler in our side was the russian who got eliminated due to injury and pretty much the top 3 wrestlers in the category were on the other side of the bracket in the chinese, japanese and ukrainian. I also want to remind people that this russian teched Neelam 10-0 just last year. This is also pretty much Neelam's first big result. I do hope she keeps up this momentum and starts challenging these other top wrestlers. This should give her some confidence but we really have to see how she does against Yui Susaki. If she even puts up a fight while losing I will be happy.

Now we move on to Kajal. Her performance is the most impressive to me of our two finalists. First round beats her lithuanian opponent fairly comfortably pinning her in around the 3rd minute. Next round faces the Asian Championship gold medalist and was losing 2-1 in the first period but her biggest strength is the gas tank and she takes 8 points in the second period to win 9-2. Her semi final match was against the expected world gold medalist who won silver last year Aiperi Medet Kyzy. This match's highlights are on YT on the UWW channel if you want to watch it. Even after going down 7-1 in the first period she did not give up and got it to 8-7. I think whats most impressive was in the last few seconds she almost gave up a point for leaving the ring but turned it into two points of her own. This shows me the tactical mind and to do this at the age of 18 is incredible. I am interested to see her wrestle the top 2 wrestlers in the category Genesis Reasco (2025 World Champ) and Yuka Kagami (2024 Paris Olympic Gold medalist) if we can see how she matches up against them we would truly be able to tell our medal chances here. Because Kajal is an absolute gem for us. I expect 50/50 chances of her winning gold tomorrow against the Ukranian who looks in great touch at least this tournament.

For Rajnitha she performed as I pretty much expected beating her quite tough opponent 8-6, this opponent was european bronze at one weight category above this. Then losing to 2021 world champion Ringaci, 10-0 this bout was not even close she got pushed down once and got rolled pretty much immediately. But Ringaci is in the final so there are repechage chances but looks quite difficult as her first opponent is the japanese herself. We can only hope for the best.

For Neha Sharma also a very tough draw beats the Algeria 4-2 after pretty much relaxing the entire second period and then loses to the Belarusian Kuryachkina 4-1. She kind of lost because of her passivity in the second period once she went down 1-1 on criteria she was trying her hardest desperately to get points but was losing a stepout in the process and got taken down for 2 at the end unfortunate but she did try her best. Now the belarusian lost to the chinese 10-0 in the semi final so she is out.

Overall a pretty good day even the wrestlers who lost did not lose to any easy wrestlers and we hope for the best for future days.

Wrestling | कुश्ती Tomorrow might be the most iconic day for Indian Wrestling - Irrespective of the results. Some overview and streaming details.

For the unaware people, World Wrestling Championship'26 has been going on and Women's Wrestling started today. Greco-Roman weight classes ended today and we have had a very poor outing in there considering only one wrestler in Greco secured a win out of the whole Greco contingent. Mind you, every country sends their best contingent to this event. However, due to Asian Games completing just weeks before this, many wrestlers such as Deepak Punia/Aman Sehrawat/Antim Panghal have skipped this tournament due to weight cuts.

Wrestling has 3 divisions:

1) Men's Greco Roman (traditionally the standard in a lot of European countries): India is very poor in Greco but has shown signs of improvement recently. Nitesh Siwach is one who has shown massive improvements recently but had a disappointing campaign in this tournament. It's upper body dominant technique based wrestling and you can't attack on the legs like in Freestyle

2) Women's Wrestling : The only category for Women's Wrestling. Indian Squad is pretty okayish. Antim is a huge miss considering she is the only medalist from last 2 editions.

3) Men's Freestyle: India's strongest division traditionally. Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Aman Sehrawat, Deepak Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Sujeet Kalkal - all are Freestyle Wrestlers. Sujeet is the brightest hope we have in this world championships.

Now the massive massive set of results have yielded a historic day for tomorrow. Two of our girls - Neelam (50Kg) and Kajal(76Kg) have entered the Finals and will be competing for Gold tomorrow.

Neelam had a great draw as she escaped the half-bracket which has Susaki (greatest of this generation, only lost to Vinesh in her international career). Neelam defeated Varakina(Bulgaria) 6-0 in the RO16, and she was set to face Smirnova(Russia) in Quarter-Finals. However, Smirnova suffered a severe eye injury after a nasty poke she suffered from Turner(USA, got disqualified for this) so Neelam got a walkover to Semis. In Semis, Neelam faced home favorite Bayanova who she defeated 7-3.

The challenge for Neelam is the toughest she can ever hope for. Susaki hasn't conceded a single point in this tournament and has teched (10-0 score, bout ends right there with result marked as technical superiority) 3 of her opponents, with her Semis ending in 9-0. Neelam doesn't stand a chance against Susaki and I'd be pretty satisfied if Neelam manages to score a point against Susaki, a takedown would be amazing, and a win....even though chances of that happening are 0.001%, would be the biggest win in History of Indian Wrestling.

Kajal had a lethal draw and I am very very surprised by the turn of events today. Kagami (World's best 76Kg wrestler currently, Japan) isn't competing this time due to weight cut issues after Asian Games, which made Aiperi Medet(Krygystan) favorite for Gold in this tournament. Kajal was in the same bracket as Aiperi. For those who don't remember, Aiperi was the reason for one of the heartbreaks in Paris Olympics as she defeated Reetika Hooda in Quarter-Finals on criteria.

Kajal is only 18 so I wasn't expecting much from her here considering Aiperi, Alpyeyeva (Ukraine) and Potrille(Cuba, Paris Oly Bronze Medalist) were there. Having Aiperi in Semis was supposed to be the end but oh boy, has she surprised us here. She was trailing 1-7 at one point and did concede a 4 point takedown earlier, another 4 pointer by Aiperi which looked likely would've ended the bout right then and there, but Kajal held herself brilliantly. She was leading in the later half by 1 point, Aiperi tried to score a takedown in the dying seconds of the bout but Kajal ended up scoring another takedown. That scream by Kakal after winning the bout showed everything she felt.

Coming back to tomorrow, Kajal is supposed to face Alpyeyeva of Ukraine. She is a pretty solid wrestler. If that makes you any happy, Aiperi defeated her last year in World Championships rather comfortably. Also Alpyeyeva is coming off a thrilling win in Quarter-Finals against a relatively much weaker Guilford (USA) but managed to defeat Kocak(Turkey) by technical superiority in Semis who staged an amazing upset defeating Olympic Medalist Potrille in RO16.

On paper, I'd rate Alpyeyeva as the slight favorite being more experienced but it's nothing more than 55-45 here, so pretty even odds.

Where to watch?

Whole tournament is being televised on UWW+ , and the tournament pass is costing about 450 rs which is absurdly high. I will share a link for the free stream, but reddit is auto-removing my comments with that link so please DM me in daytime tomorrow for the link. Or I'll find some other way to paste the link.

When are the medal bouts tomorrow?

6:30 PM IST onwards.

Why tomorrow will be an iconic day for Indian wrestling irrespective of the results?

India has never had more than one wrestler in the Finals in the same edition. This can very well increase to more than two considering we have a lot of categories left.

Till now, only Anshu Malik in women's division has managed to reach to the Final of World Championship. This time, we have both Neelam and Kajal.

If either of Kajal and Neelam manage to win Gold tomorrow, we'll have our first ever woman world champion from India.

India has had only one World Champion so far - Sushil Kumar (2010)

Tune in tomorrow!

Swimming is the easiest way to medal in Asian Games and Olympics. The competition is intense, no doubt but it also has multiple events. The government should be building swimming infrastructure across all the states and focus on training potential athletes.

Asian Para Games 2026 4th Position, Better Performance, 114 Medals - Asian Para Games officially Done and Dusted.

India has surpassed its previous best of 111 medals at the 2023 Asian Para Games, where we finished fifth.

With just 168 Indian athletes participating, our para athletes exceeded expectations and made the country proud by winning 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals taking India's total to 114 medals and securing its best ever fourth-place finish.

Para Athletics was the biggest contributor with 65 medals including 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze.

Additionally, Manish Narwal and Avani Lekhara secured India's LA 2028 Paralympic quota places in the P1 Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1 and Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 events, respectively, by winning medals here.

Of course, not everyone performed as expected but that's part of sports.

Kudos to all the athletes who gave their best and made the country proud.

It was honestly so much fun watching the Games.

Jai Hind 🫡🇮🇳
