Politics How do Jewish people view the Druze, and why are their relations so close?

Hi everyone!

I’m curious about the relationship between Jews and the Druze community, and I’d love to hear your perspectives.

I have a few questions:

  1. Interfaith marriage: Is it common for Jews and Druze to marry each other? If not, what are the main reasons? Are such marriages generally accepted by either community?
  2. Perceptions of the Druze: What is the general perception of the Druze among Jewish people? How do you view their culture, religion, and community?
  3. Friendships and social relationships: Do you personally have any Druze friends? If so, how close are you? Would you invite them to your home for dinner or family gatherings, or is the relationship generally more distant and formal?
  4. The relationship between Jews and Druze: Why do you think there is a relatively close relationship between Jewish and Druze communities, particularly in Israel, compared with the relationship between Jews and other Muslim communities?

I’m genuinely interested in understanding the historical, cultural, religious, and political factors behind this relationship, as well as the everyday social dynamics between the two communities.

I’d especially appreciate hearing about your personal experiences rather than just general political opinions.

Thanks!

Politics Challenging the narrative of Israeli "settler violence" in Judea and Samaria

I thought this video was worth sharing because it challenges the way allegations of Israeli "settler violence" are presented in international media and political discourse.

Violence against innocent Palestinians should certainly be condemned, but so should violence against Israelis. What concerns me is the tendency to portray Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria collectively as violent aggressors, often without sufficient context or comparable attention to Palestinian terrorism.

I'd be interested to hear what others think, particularly Israelis familiar with the situation on the ground. https://youtu.be/EYtCwO1HEB0

Israeli Tech 🛰️ An Israeli Team Is Building the Needle-Free Answer to the EpiPen

If you've ever carried an EpiPen, or packed one in a kid's backpack, this one's for you. Israeli scientists at Nasus Pharma are building a way to give epinephrine without a shot, and in their biggest study yet, it got into the blood faster than the pen.

You know the deal with the EpiPen. Blue to the sky, orange to the thigh, and you press a needle into someone's leg while they're fighting to breathe. It's saved countless lives since 1987, but it's bulky, people are scared of it, and in one survey, more than half the adults prescribed one didn't use it in an emergency. Well, the team at Nasus looked at that and figured the medicine was never the problem. The needle was. They went and turned epinephrine into a powder you spray up the nose.

Then they put it up against the pen in 50 adults. At 2.5 minutes, 2 out of 3 people on the powder had the epinephrine level Nasus was aiming for. On the pen, it was about 1 in 4.

So, no more needles? Not yet. Keep carrying your EpiPen. Nobody in these studies was having a real reaction, and it isn't approved. But think about a kid who'd actually keep it in his pocket, and a parent who wouldn't think twice about using it. Of course it's being built in Israel.

The War - Discussion Would you support a Palestinian state if you genuinely believed there would be peace?

Say Palestinians spent 10-20 years secularizing, focusing on building internal wealth, the vast majority of the population accepted Israel as a state, and there were zero terrorist attacks or attempts during that time period.

At that point, would you accept a Palestinian state?

589 No, I don’t ever believe they should have a state
1510 Yes, under those conditions or something similar/close, I’d accept a state
878 I would accept a state one day, but I’d need much more from them to accept a state

Casey Babb’s first book, The Moral Case for Zionism, will be published on October 22. Babb argues that Zionism offers something meaningful not just to the Jewish community but to all people. He explores the moral principles at the heart of the Zionist spirit and examines the dangers posed by the rise of anti-Zionism and antisemitism across the West.

Join Hudson Institute for a conversation with the author on the eve of the book’s release. Babb, Director of The Promised Land Project at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and an associate fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, will discuss the book’s central argument and the practical ways Jews and non-Jews alike can embrace Zionist ideas in their own lives.

Ask The Sub Magen David Adom overseas volunteer

Hey there, I’m from the UK and I’m thinking about volunteering with MADA. Has anyone here done the overseas programme before?
I feel like it’s a great way to help everyone in the regardless of their ethnicity or religion, and that is importantly to me.
Also I know this might be a dangerous time to do it, but I feel like these days it’s always dangerous since there’s been a lot of war going on. I’m more worried about what my peers will say about me going over than the war/danger in Israel.

Has anyone got any advice or wants to tell me how their experience was? Did you actually get to help people or was it just an “experience” for foreigners who want to feel like they’re helping?

Thanks in advance

General News Report: Urich and Einhorn drafted messages for Romanian nationalist party's campaign

An investigative report published in Romania (on the websites Snoop and HotNews) reveals that Yonatan Urich, a close aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and strategic consultant Israel ("Srulik") Einhorn, secretly assisted in drafting political messaging and formulating strategy for the nationalist AUR party in Romania.

This report has sparked significant controversy, given that senior figures within the party have previously been accused of antisemitism and Holocaust denial.

Key findings from the investigation:

• The WhatsApp Leak: The investigation is based on thousands of WhatsApp messages leaked from Urich’s account. The correspondence indicates that in August 2024, Einhorn sent Urich a document outlining campaign themes for the Romanian party, which Urich subsequently approved.

• Campaign Content: The two developed a communications plan that included proposals for social media posts, images, and video scripts. The messaging targeted leaders of Romania’s governing coalition as well as the Mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan. Some of this phrasing later appeared officially on the social media accounts of politicians belonging to the party.

• Meetings in Bucharest: The messages indicate that Einhorn planned to meet with the party leader, George Simion, in Romania; he later wrote a message to Urich that the meeting had indeed taken place.

The party’s problematic background:

The AUR party (Alliance for the Union of Romanians) is a far-right, nationalist party. In 2022, the party faced harsh condemnation from the Israeli Embassy and the Elie Wiesel Institute after its members claimed that the Holocaust was a minor issue that did not warrant dedicated teaching hours in Romanian schools. Furthermore, the party has previously been accused of disseminating propaganda associated with the fascist Legionary movement that was active in Romania.

Responses: The AUR party denied the existence of any formal cooperation, though it has confirmed that it had received a work proposal from the two individuals. Urich and Einhorn refused to provide a response to the investigation’s findings.
