Map Should i be creating my maps by hand
I recently made this map for a project I’ve been working on, but i made it using a map generator. Now i know this is fine, but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s just a little *soulless*. I feel like for a personal worldbuilding project, i maybe should create a custom map.
Part of me likes adding empires and geopolitics to an already formed map, kind of like coloring in the lines of a coloring page. I dont really know, but its not like i stole a map online, i tweaked settings to make it how i wanted it, until I felt satisfied. anyway, thanks for letting me rant for a little, I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Map Map of the city of Ilsby, capital and second largest city of the United Fairy Reservations. (Lore in description)
•The city is located on the isle of Alvenes Øy in the North Sea, and was founded by the local fairy population as early as the late 18th century.
•In the year 1906, the September Crisis, a global disease outbreak that killed over 200 million people, was reported to have originated from the species, and the fairies were condemned to the remote island.
•An autonomous republic was declared on the island in Lampnas event hall in Ilsby on January 7th, 1907 by fairy ambassador Ingore Hemmelweiss, who sought to establish a society on equal status with humans.
•The city was then granted the status of capital after the construction of the seat of government in Suma district.
•The republic now has the fifteenth largest economy in the world, and is the only producer of Alvenø tryptane (fairy dust) which is their major export, and is known for having one of the world’s most densely populated capital cities on the planet, contrary to having a contrastingly large rural population.

original from u/Kilroy Jensen ......... I thought it would be cool to add more details such as glaciers on mountains and add a human aspect by inserting gray areas on strategic locations on the map. Hope you like it

Map New Map!!
Map created for Nathan Washor, who is developing a game world and an adventure for D&D, spanning levels 1 through 20. The world he is building is truly fascinating it consists of various planes of existence connected by massive pillars.
We began by creating the map for Pyre, a world of fire and lava, and the next one will be the realm of ice! It is a very exciting project, and Angela and I are thrilled to be able to contribute our maps to it!🧭🗺️🔥

Discussion Why...
Today i want to ask... Why... Why do we find it SO fascinating to create worlds, to craft stories and maps... why?
I’ve been at it since I was TWELVE years old... twelve... TWELVE YEARS! Making maps and creating fantasy, imaginary worlds... i was to little and making horrible maps and super cliche stories...
And today, with 39yo my wife doesn’t understand why I draw maps... why I come up with stories and tell her about worlds that don’t exist... and i discuss with my friends about things that never happened.
Why do you think this happens?... Dot tell me because we like it... yes of course we like it... but WHY...
Have a good week! ♥

Map A CRT map.
This is the best I could do to imitate old cathode-ray tube screens to emulate a tactical war map in a bunker 10 floors beneath the pentagon.
Tried to make the pixels larger because CRT screens are usually low resolution (at most 1080p) but I gave up on that.
Made it in GIMP.

Map The two continent
Two Continents
The continents of Fidena and Naukra share a history spanning millennia. Whether through conflict, agreements, or trade, the two have always been linked by various events that shaped the lives of humans, elves, dwarves, and the Draconics. While the dwarves established their kingdoms within mountain ranges and the elves within their forests, humans and Draconics divided the coastlines and other territories among themselves. A segment of the population from the Draconics' high realm broke away to found a new kingdom on Naukra; it flourished and expanded over the following centuries, giving rise to several cities. Simultaneously, various human dynasties built and expanded their own kingdoms and empires—frequently clashing with one another. Elves and dwarves generally steered clear of human conflicts, focusing instead on their own realms while maintaining open trade. The maritime republics, meanwhile—which saw very little conflict—dedicated themselves to commerce, amassing great wealth and opening their doors to every race inhabiting the land.

Discussion Archimedes (a ring extraterestrial world, with a 70° axil tilt)
Hello! I’ve been working on a world for a story, a planet called Archimedes, which has a 70-degree axial tilt, a moon (about the size of Pluto), and a ring system. I decided to give it this extreme tilt, but I’ve been struggling to figure out how day/night cycles and seasons would function, which in turn makes it difficult to name locations, weather phenomena, and so on. I had some initial names in mind, like "Sea of Sunset" or "Sea of Sunrise"—classic choices, but I wasn't sure if they would actually make sense given this kind of rotation. Surprisingly, they do—at least near the equator; meanwhile, the regions from the tropics toward the poles experience polar-style winters and summers. any other suggestions?

Work In Progress Domhan Eile: Southern Island
In the latest novel I am writing—which, like my others, is set in Tír Ghlas—the protagonist mysteriously ends up in a parallel world called Domhan Eile (Otherworld). It resembles Tír Ghlas, but instead of being a single island, it is divided into four major islands of various shapes, inhabited not only by ordinary people but also by human-animal hybrids.
This is the southern island; it is essentially a "physical map." I drew it using Sakura Pigma Micron pens and painted it with Gansai Tambi and Rembrandt watercolors.

Map New update to my terrain-diffusion model renderrer
After several months of inactivity, I’m ready to show what I’ve added to the renderer:
- Reworked the river generation, using water flow with Budyko’s balance.
- Added isolines to display depth.
- Expanded the color palette for biomes and improved the lighting to better depict the terrain.
- I’ve added the generation of states, settlements, points of interest, and roads. Settlements appear in the most habitable locations. Roads are displayed in the places that are easiest to traverse (where no mountain ranges or huge lakes in the way).
- Added the ability to create maps of any size.
- You can now add adjacent tiles to maps, i.e., increase their size in any direction.
Optimization:
The cache of RAM is used ~20 times less.
The map rendering time is reduced by about 3 times.
At the moment, I’m working on simplifying the generator installation, as it requires the terrain‑diffusion model to work. I’ll post it on GitHub as soon as I make the installation user‑friendly.
