Election Time! In-Person Absentee Voting begins Tuesday Oct 20!

In-Person Absentee Voting (aka early voting) begins Tuesday October 20 through October 31 for the Nov. 3 election.

Anyone who is legally eligible to vote can do so at their city's locations (ie. if you live in Madison, you can vote at the Madison locations, but if you live in Monona, you can only vote at the Monona locations). You'll need to bring an approved form of ID with you to vote. Here's a list of approved IDs. One that tends to trip people up is that out of state driver's license are NOT an approved ID. If you've moved here and haven't gotten around to changing you driver's license, check the approved list linked above for what other options you have (like a passport) or get to it and get that driver's license changed.

Not registered? Not a problem! You can register to vote at the time of voting, even early voting. Here's a page that talks about the requirements for registering to vote. There is a link on that page to the registration form that you can fill out online, print and bring with you, but if you don't have a printer, no problem, you can just fill out the form at the voting locations. Along with voter ID, you'll also need a proof of residence. Here's a list of options for proof of address. For many of those options, you may be able to pull them up on your phone to show them when registering. Having worked elections for over 15 yrs, I'd say having to register while voting adds from 5-10 min to the process.

Myvote.wi.gov is going to be your go to site for your voter information. You can preview what your ballot will look like, confirm if you are already registered, find your voting location if you want to wait until election day to vote, and track your ballot. For those outside of Madison, at the top of the Myvote site, click on "Vote Absentee In Person", enter your address, and your local locations and times will be provided.

Voter Guides:

This post is for voting information, not for debating. Any such comments on this post will be removed. However, if you have questions about the voting process, feel free to ask. Myself and many users of this subreddit have worked as election officials and are very familiar with the voting process.

FYI: 'Philly Cheez', 'Just Wing It', and 'Burgerland' are all ghost kitchens. Are these run out of Kingdom restaurant? (Easily one of, if not the worst, restaurant in Madison)

ordering food on grubhub and i happen to notice that the following restaurants - 'Philly Cheez', 'Just Wing It', and 'Burgerland' - all have the same physical address in the Northport shopping center and yet none of them have a storefront. Clearly they are ghost kitchens, but which restaurant are they running out of?

I'm like 75% sure it's Kingdom in which case avoid at all costs because Kingdom Restaurant is a complete and total joke and a ripoff

having said that I'm not 100% sure so if anybody has information on this please let me know

EDIT Okay, yeah, it's definitely Kingdom Restaurant. 1865 North Sherman is the actual address for all of these restaurants. Kingdom, Philly Cheez, Just Wing It, and Burgerland.

So I personally would avoid all of the above restaurants at all costs. Every single time I've eaten at Kingdom Restaurant, it's been a complete rip-off and a joke.

Multiple gunshots on the east side of Lake Monona at 6:00 this morning?

I'm laying in bed with the window open at my house off of Buckeye between the lake and 51 and I hear a couple sirens, then a series of loud bangs, maybe eight of them. Not sure but it sounded like gunfire. Then two more at 6:10. Not necessarily the crisp pop of a handgun, more explosive like a shotgun. Weird.

Found this beut while I was riding around a couple years ago. The contrast of the colors was amazing and I figured even if it's not Madison, people might appreciate it... :D

On the west side. Last year, it was so vibrant that I saw a couple families stop by on the weekend to take family photos with it as a backdrop. 🙂 It's still beautiful this year, but maybe last weekend was it's peak.

Animal rescue in need of towels and blankets?

I’ve got two large bins of these to donate.

It’s a lot to carry, so I’d appreciate an easy dropoff without having to worry about parking.

Thank you!

Where should I go watch the Brewers game tonight?

• Upvotes

I was thinking about going out and watching the Brewers game win it all at a bar or restaurant instead of just watching at home

I'm not a huge fan of overly crowded places, like last night I was at the Atwood and players and it was just way too crowded in there, but I enjoy a good vibe as much as the next person still

I was wondering if anybody had any good recommendations for places that might be doing fun Brewers events, preferably the east side but I'm willing to travel for a good vibe and good food

Announcement Google AI is Wrong About Voting

Post image
194 Upvotes

I was checking the early voting hours for my local city hall. Google seems to think there isn’t early voting which is ridiculous because I just voted there…

Remember to confirm all you find on the internet concerning the election, including when and where you can vote.

Edit: Apparently, I need to add some info since I’m getting so much hate for talking about ai. I’m a masters educated public school teacher. I know how to conduct academic research and teach this skill constantly. When I started my search for early voting hours at my local municipal hall, I thought a basic google search should have been sufficient. As many of you know, Google has plopped an ai summary at the top of all searches. Hoping it might save me a click for something as basic as hours of operation, I scanned it; knowing to take the results with a grain of salt and shot of tequila. I knew it was wrong immediately and decided to share that info here since it involved your right to vote and as yet another sign not to trust ai for those less skilled in knowing when further research is required. Didn’t expect a PSA to get so much attention and hate.

Pizza box for costume

• Upvotes

Does anyone know of any pizza places in Madison that use a generic pizza box that just says "pizza" instead of having a company name or logo printed on it? Need it for a costume and intend to pay whichever restaurant a few bucks for one.

Activities today

Any ideas for what I can do with my mom for her birthday during the day today?

We have plans later for dinner with family, but we’re both free during the day, so I’d like to find something.

I’ve looked at movies and I don’t think there’s anything we care to see

Thank you!!!

Beltline confusion

As someone relatively new to the Madison area, can someone please explain why the westbound Beltline exit for Dodgeville/Midvale Road is ALWAYS backed up? 😂 It doesn’t seem to matter what time of day it is, there’s almost always a line of cars waiting to exit. Is there a reason for this, or is it just one of those Madison traffic mysteries I need to learn to accept? 🤣
