Venting Reddit's Environment

I've had a Reddit account for a while but never really actually used it. I would find threads through Google about game reviews, bug fixes, DIY home maintenance etc. and I had always seen such nice genuine people.

Since my experiences were always so positive, I thought Reddit's reputation was just hyperbolic so , for the past 3 weeks, I've been actually using it proper. Scrolling, commenting, even posting and I have to say... this is such a miserable place. I've spent way too long arguing with people about basic logical conclusions or the assumptions that are made about people.

Yes, I should have just not engaged. I fully acknowledge and accept that I had a part in my negative experience. I just find it hard to think that is solely the case. There are such hateful people that seem to pop up everywhere. I primarily sat in gaming related subs, I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I primarily sat in political/culture war/debate subs.

I feel a genuine tax on my mental health that I have never felt from any social media platform ever, even in my worst altercations. I understand that there isn't any reason why anyone should care about this but a large part of why I'm writing this is because I'm getting rid of Reddit and this post serves as my mental conclusion to my time with it. I also hope that it may help someone else to wake up to the potential mental tax that they may have been suppressing internal acknowledgement of experiencing as well.

I understand that this is not an airport and people don't need an announcement of my departure, I just thought I'd share my general experience before I leave.

Venting losing the generic lottery is a sentence

why do genetics have to determine so much? they essentially determine life’s winners and losers. it plays so much more of a role than people realize and being on the losing end of it really hurts. because of poor genetics i struggle socially, romantically, in my hobbies, academics, athletics, career, etc.

people with good genetics seem to live more enjoyable lives. people with good genetics don’t have to work hard to achieve success in any aspect, they just get to enjoy the results of being born better. and think about it, imagine a college scenario, people with good genetics can party, hang out with friends, drink and just have a good time without facing the consequences because they were born to not have them. they won’t suffer health consequences because they’re born healthy or they won’t fail classes because they’re born smarter or they won’t struggle to fit in because they were born socially better or they won’t struggle with how attractive they are because they were born attractive

people like me have to work like donkeys to barley make it through life and at least for me i still can’t compete with a person with good genetics who never had to try. people with good genetics will get everything i want, get the attention from peers I want, can enjoy the nice things in life that i want, get the jobs i want, gets the life quality i want. some are just born winners and all the spoils go to them while lesser people like me are left with nothing and im so tired of living that reality.

Sadness / Grief My untreated mental health issues damaged the trust in my relationship, and I lost the man I wanted to marry

My boyfriend (29M) and I (26F) were together for about a year and a half. We were planning to get engaged, he’d bought a ring, and we’d talked extensively about marriage and children.

I struggled with severe anxiety, PMDD, and what I’m now learning may be relationship OCD. I repeatedly questioned his intentions and struggled to trust him, even though I loved him deeply. We had a few particularly difficult conflicts, and I know some of my behavior hurt him.

We started couples therapy, but I eventually canceled our planned engagement trip amid financial concerns and mounting relationship stress. He became increasingly distant, despite telling me he wanted to reconcile. Then he broke up with me over the phone, just as I was beginning treatment. He said he’d been unhappy and lacking in confidence for a few months now in our relationship, and with the canceled trip and work stress, he just couldn’t handle it anymore.

I’m devastated. I physically feel sick with grief. I can’t imagine loving or wanting anyone else, and I’m consumed by guilt over how differently things might have gone if I’d gotten help sooner.

Has anyone experienced losing a relationship because of untreated mental health issues? How did you cope with the guilt and the possibility that things could have been different? I am grieving so badly I can’t even get through the workday.

Venting I just feel so tired

• Upvotes

I’ve never posted on here before, but I just feel like I need to type something out. I feel so tired all the time, everything overwhelms me. I lost interest in the things i like to do. I want to do them and start again but I feel like there’s this wall in my head that prevents me from doing it. The wall in my head prevents me from doing a lot of things, cleaning my room, any hobbies I want to do, it’s so frustrating. I’m also having anxiety about my loved ones secretly hating me, or that I might have said something wrong to them if their tone seems off, it is so tiring. I try not to ask if they are out of fear of either seeming annoying or making them feel bad, so I’m just stuck in this cycle of really wanting reassurance but also being afraid to ask. If I do or say something wrong I feel like I should just be put down like a dog, because my brain can’t tell the difference between making a small mistake vs a big one. Sometimes I just wanna leave, drop everything and be a traveler or something, just disappear somewhere. Not everyone but a lot of people around me requires so much energy, and I’m far away from the people that make me feel good. I feel stuck and so lost. I’m sorry if this is all over the place I just needed to get it out there

Question People in their 30s — how is it actually going? (Especially if you feel behind)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how the 30s feel like the hardest years so far. There’s this constant pressure career, money, relationships, maybe kids (or the lack of them), health, feeling like everyone else is somehow further ahead… and the quiet dread that you’re “behind.”
I’m curious how it’s really going for people currently in their 30s.
Are you thriving? Barely holding it together? Somewhere in the middle? Does the “behind” feeling ever quiet down, or does it just change shape?
And for those of you who are older (40+, 50+, etc.):
Did you feel the same way in your 30s? Looking back, what would you tell your 30-something self? Any advice that actually helped (or that you wish you’d heard sooner)?
Be as honest as you want. No polished success stories required.

Need Support Im tired of being mentally unstable and people around me just assuming im in a bad mood cause I don’t have the energy to be bubbly

• Upvotes

For the past couple of years i've been struggling with my mental health and it just keeps getting worse. I've beem going to therapy for a long time and my environment is aware of me having issues, but they just can't accept it.

I'm severely mentally unstable, I just go up and down all the time and iis not something i can control. I go from being okay, doing a bunch of things and not getting tired, to the worst depressive episodes ever where i'm not even a thinking human being. It is cyclic and i dont know how to stop it.

On the other side, feeling things in general is a fucking nightmare. I dont have a lot of emotions on a normal basis, i dont get excited or happy, even feeling sad is hard for me sometimes. I can only feel annoyed, angry, disgusted or bored; and even when I do experience those emotions, they feel blured and i can't really percieve them. But here comes the catch, when i do have emotions, is like im being killed. It is really painful and i just want to escape from my body, becase it becomes unbearable, which results in me having terrible crisis and panic attacks where I self harm and feel like im being asphyxiated.

I also feel severely alienated from everyone, not only people I meet casually, but my friends, family and people I see everyday. I cant connect with their emotions or life experiences and i find it hard to empathize with them. Thats also connected with the fact that i have a need for control that just doesnt let me live normally. I need to control how people percieve me. Is not about their opinion, cause i honestly dont care, but more so about not being able to control what they see and think about me in certain situations.

Living in my head can really be a fucking nightmare sometimes, i have violent intrussive thoughts sometimes, sometimes, my thoughts are racing, they keep coming at me and it feels like im drowing in them. It is asphixiating and exhausthing.

I'm also struggling a lot more recently. Ive had passive suicidal thoughts since i can remember and been self harming for quite a long time too. Not only that, but also take in mind that im a raging bulimic, i b/p most days, even multiple times a day. I cant make myself stop anymore.

Objectively speaking, i have a pretty privileged life. Im economically stable, a not-so-terrible family and just a lot of privileges most people dont get to have, but i still can´t help it. I have no idea on what to do regarding the future, i dont want to make the effort to live, and even less considering id have to live in my head, and people around me are ins constant denial about how bad really things are.

I understand that im functional most of the time and that people percieve that as being okay, but in so, so sick of feeling like im going to collapse at any moment. I even have older people telling me about their struggles and that just makes me sick.

I dont feel like i have a real personality and living seems extremely hard, especially with a brain like this.

Need Support I’m a deeply deeply fucked up person

I’m a 21 y.o girl I was SA’D by multiple men when I was a kid bcs I was abandoned by my parents so I had to live with my Abusive narcissistic grandma . My dad is a mommy’s boy he is 46 y.o but he is sooo obsessed w his mom he got married three times beacuse of her . My mom works as a dishwasher at a restaurant she lives alone w her cats . Not havin a proper father figure and absent mother , getting bullied and Sa’d fucked me up it really traumatized me I never even had a bf I can’t even get on well with women either but I can’t socialize w people normally everyone assumes that I’m autistic but I’m smart and talkative I’m in my final year of uni.

I chose a random language major cause it was easy to get in and it was free it ruined my life , people are overly religious and extremely judgemental I can’t even be honest about my own opinion (I live in Central Asia) I live in a city where If a woman goes out after 7pm she gets sa’d or harassed that happened to me multiple times I had open heart surgery few years ago I can’t handle arguments or loud noises I share an apartment with other 6 girl ITS HELL. I won student money which is 70$ a month I pay my rents with it for my monthly expenses I have to beg my parents I spent 3 months here looking for a job even with money I couldn’t find a proper job except working as a waitress. Don get me wrong I would gladly work any job but not IN THIS CITY WHERE I GET HUMILIATED BY CREEPY UNEDUCATED UNCIVILIZED MEN. I cry everyday, slightly arguments or overthinking gives me chest pain

I don’t interact w people that much I only leave the apartment for uni , to get groceries I don’t even interact w people online.

I have a huge empathy for animals especially cats . My heart aches if I see an injured cat I do my best to help them. I have no friends sometimes when I go outside I sit w stray cats talk w them and feed them I wish I could rescue all of them I cry to them but some people are really cruel to them even kids I’m sorry but I hate those kind of people so much .

All I want is leaving this country and working somewhere
In 2024, I won a scholarship to study in Italy but I couldn’t get a visa beacuse my parents don’t have proper jobs and we are poor. Idk what to do atp. I’m gonna apply for Germany , China scholarships for my masters but I’m think I should better work beacuse with my degree where else could I even work? I would have a hard time finding a job but jobs like waitressing , dishwashing , babysitting etc I would gladly do that beacuse I just want to live a simple peaceful life in another country.

I spent 3 years of my life in a place where I don’t belong everyone is rude to me beacuse I don’t share the same views as them.

It was my first day of uni today I came back and honestly I don’t wanna exist I can’t imagine spending another 7 months here . but I’m just wondering how long can I live like this I’m missing out on so many things. It’s like I’m surrounded by the worst type of humans . I really am !! This is eating me alive I tried to look for migrant jobs online but unfortunately they don’t give sponsorship visas for jobs like that. I’m so lost I can’t even think properly

Venting I want to be a real adult

Im 19 and I feel like im 12 years old, I feel so stupid. I dont have any independence at all.

I dont have financial independence since no job will accept me with my autism diagnosis and lack of work experience, ive applied to so many, ive tried, nothing ever happens

I cant drive because my parents wont take me to a place that teaches me how to drive despite me asking multiple times

Even doctors look at me like im an idiot, I just tried to ask for help on another subreddit to see if my illness was bad enough to get help and they told me to handle my own situations since im an adult now and I just started crying and deleted the post because I feel like an idiot, I dont know what response I expected, im just a stupid child in an adults body thats gonna rot in my parents house as long as they punish me for trying to help myself learn

Venting What should i do?

Hello my fellow brothers.I am here to discuss a sensitive topic.I am a 26 M and currently living in a country of South Asia.Straight to the point the discussion is about the size of my dick.I am 5 ft 77 and my weight is almost 90 kilo(194 pounds).I have a very small dick. It's 4.1 inch when it's erected and just 2 in when it's flaccid. My girth is not at that range to be considered as a compensation.

When i was 20,i thought that this will increase but it's still not showing any sign of it.

I have a wife. The thing about her is that she is a low libido women and she doesn't like oral sex.Other than these two our sexual life is good.I don't have erection problem or timing issue. And i also invest my fingers and sometimes my tongue when my wife allows it.But she rarely gives me blowjob.

The thing is i have no complains about her and she have never said that she's not satisfied or anything. But trust me i am having very low self confidence issue over this.I am confident about everything else except this.I even feel disgusted looking down and also being naked. The problem is so intense on my mind that even i have started thinking about myself as a low manly person and honestly speaking i curse GOD for this.I even started making distance with my wife as my subconscious mind says she's not attracted in me and her low libido thing is a lie. She doesn't like my dick that's why she skips blowjobs. And i feel so sad about this.I even asked her about this and she said this is not the issue.

Buy my mind says otherwise as i think all the boys around me have bigger dicks and i hardly find my dick when it's flaccid. It's hampering my self confidence so badly.I don't need a massive dick.I wish i could be just on average size like 5-6 inch.Whenever i ask how does my dick feel inside you she says it feels good but there's a demon in my mind saying bro i guess she hardly felt it.

And even if she's satisfied i will not be satisfied ever with my own size and i simply hate my body so much.

I know i am here to vent myself out. But it's what i feel inside.I have tried everything to make myself free of this but it never worked. So now i am here.

Need Support TW: sexual assault/self harm. Feeling completely consumed and overwhelmed when facing challenges (which are unfortunately frequent this year). 33F

Hi, I am in need of some support (33F). I am finding myself becoming completely derailed whenever I face any sort of personal challenge (which unfortunately seems to be quite frequently this year).

For some context: I have been diagnosed for over a decade with severe anxiety and depression. I have done therapy in the past on a number of occasions and have booked a session again for next week. I have also been on medication for around 3 years (10mg escitalopram).

I was in a long term quite unhealthy relationship a number of years ago which really wore me down, and ended up having to take out a restraining order against my ex partner when I began dating someone else after we broke up. Unfortunately the following relationship was incredibly emotionally abusive and ended in my partner cheating on me.

At the beginning of this year, I entered into a relationship with an absolutely incredible person, who makes me feel incredible seen and supported. I feel so incredibly lucky. It is by far the most healthy relationship I’ve ever been in. 2 months after we started dating, I was sexually assaulted after a suspected drink spiking on a night out. While this was a traumatic experience, I had a great support system around me and felt that I was doing okay moving forward, however in hindsight I recognize that I should have sought out professional support sooner regarding this.

A few months ago I unexpectedly lost my job and was out of work for around a month. I am fortunate to have landed on my feet being offered a role back with a previous employer, however it really rocked my confidence and also created quite a lot of financial stress for me.

Recently, I am facing a bit of a personal friendship drama, which I think usually would be resolved fairly easily with some direct albeit uncomfortable conversations, however it’s causing me to completely spiral and I am feeling incredibly mentally unwell at the moment. I have a history of self harm and while I do not think I am at any acute risk currently, it’s like a have a loop in my head with these sorts of thoughts continuously running through my mind. I feel incredibly anxious and emotional and like it is consuming me. I feel like when I first went on medication it was to help level out my emotions and stop from having such drastic highs and lows, and I feel like now I am sort of back to square one here and feeling the same way and when I went on mediation in the first place.

I feel like I need some help to first of all regulate myself and also next steps for me long term. And while my partner is incredibly supportive, I want to ensure he also feels supported while helping me through this. Thankyou for reading.

Question How do I ask for help?

hi so i don’t have access to my last post because of my age and some thing that we’re mentioned so I’ll try to word it better. English isn’t my first language though (i should really Right fanfics)

I (15f) had an attempt when I was 12. Since then my life is going downhill. I have constant thoughts (if you know what I mean) and there’s scars on the back of my hand, yk what kind(I’m being extra careful with my wording so I can access my post this tim). I still do it whenever I’m nervous, scared, mad or close to crying, which is pretty often. I don’t have a desire to live anymore and i genuinely don’t understand why people are afraid of death. I also have problems with food and my body and I just hate myself. I constantly think about everything just being over and I know that’s not how it should be.

my mother already offered to let me see a counsellor last nye (since it was a question under my first post: I had a breakdown because of my dead uncle and she offered to let me see a former colleague of her, later said everything is too stressful and it’s not that important) so I didn’t end up talking to anyone. our school counselor is ass and I lowkey don’t trust anyone there. My mom knows I tried to… and was angry at me (don’t ask) and she notices I don’t eat enough but dgaf and just buys more and more sweets.

My dad isn’t home often enough to notice anything and I also don’t want to talk to him about that because I feel like he will get annoyed or won’t believe me. I want to ask my mom for help because I know I should seek help but idk how to talk to her because I feel like she won’t believe me. At least two of my friends are extremely worried, the girl I’m closest to is even afraid for me I think, cause it always feels like she’s careful around me and she’s genuinely an angel.

So please help me. How do I talk to my mom about this or ask for help?

Question What do i do?

Ive lost interest in pretty much everything, i almost cant get up to eat sometimes. I dont even have enough energy to make and sustain friends so i stay alone. I wanted to go see a therapist or something but i dont want my parents to know cuz i dont have the balls to tell them. It feels like all the anger and sadness that i kept in finally caught up to me. Is there somethinf i can do to make it better or do i just need to wait it out? Also im 17 just to clarify.
