Hi all. I was interested in joining military for linguist roles, but I may have a close foreign contact in Vietnam who is my cousin I sometimes text. Would I be able to pass Top Secret and the further criteria like NSA likely? I don’t want to spend a year and then not get cleared.

Hey guys! I'm new to posting here and was hoping to get some insight from people familiar with security clearances.
I'm European and currently living in the US. I was recently seeing someone who works in a government-related field and holds a TS security clearance.
During a casual conversation while we were on a date, I mentioned that my stepbrother is temporarily studying in China. A little while later, he told me he was concerned that pursuing a serious relationship with me could potentially affect his clearance because of that family connection.
I was pretty surprised since neither my stepbrother nor I have any known connections to the Chinese government. I'm very curious about how this works. I'd appreciate any insight from people familiar with the clearance process. Thanks!

I applied for a job and was invited to MD for an in-person assessment. The company is covering my flight and two nights at a hotel.
I was wondering if it would be reasonable to ask if I could extend my hotel stay for a few extra nights at my own expense. I thought it might be a good opportunity to explore the area a bit and get a feel for what it would be like to live there if I ended up relocating for the job.
I'd plan to book a different hotel for the extra nights, so the only thing I'd need to change would be the return flight date. I'm just wondering if this is a reasonable thing to ask or if people actually do this. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
For years, people have wondered how the NSA chose the curves for the ECDSA algorithm. The rumor was the message to create them was along the lines of ‘Give Bob and Jerry a raise’ or ‘Bob and Jerry rule’ or something like that. Anthropic discovered that the bases are just random numbers generated from the time, weakening arguments from some who believe that the bases were intentionally selected for specific and malicious purposes.

I’m graduating next year and I applied for this general posting for an entry level technology position. I got an email 2 days ago saying that I need to send my resume, transcripts, and 2 letters of recommendation by Monday.
Is this normal? I can’t get the letters of recommendation by then since I’d have to contact my past internship managers for it…

In line with Executive Order 14412, “Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks,” NSA continues to enhance the cybersecurity posture of the Department of War (DOW) and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to defend against advanced threats. Central to these efforts is the development of post-quantum cryptography resources to guide a large-scale transition to quantum-resistant algorithms.
The PQC Resource Hub contains explainers, technical guidance, white papers, and more to help readers understand PQC and implement quantum-resistant algorithms.

Can you switch development programs at all? If you see a job in IASDP but you are more interested in CNODP can you move?

Hi! So, I'm going to apply for the NSA High School Work Study, and I know that if I get it, I get security clearance and stuff, but I was also planning on going to England for college, so I don't know if the security clearance would cause me to not be able to go abroad for college, and I have been dead set on England since I was in like 2nd grade, and I don't know if I would want to give up England for NSA, any advice?

Hello everyone,
Looking for some advice on if I should switch degree's so I can have an easier time getting hired at the NSA. I don't want to give away too much I'd say I have a foot (or at least a toenail) in the door but I want to get as much of my body in as I can. I was told "Bachelors, Certs, Experience, Masters" and that was after I already was about 1/2 way through my degree plan in CS.
Just wondering if anyone else has experience or advice for me, thank you!

What does it mean when a recruiter says your file is in the final stage after MHC-MDSH Review?

I’m currently in Air Force DEP and recently booked 1A8X2 (Airborne ISR Operator). I’m scheduled to ship to BMT in November.
At the same time, I’ve been going through the NSA hiring process for a Software Engineer position. I just received a CJO for a Software Engineer. I have a BS in Computer Science, and software engineering is ultimately the career field I want to work in long term.
Obviously, this is only a CJO and I still have to go through the NSA clearance/suitability process before potentially receiving an FJO. Because my BMT date is only a few months away, I’m not sure whether NSA processing would even finish before I ship.
I’m planning to accept the CJO and continue both processes for now, but I had a few questions for anyone familiar with NSA/IC hiring, Air Force DEP, or USERRA:
I’m not planning to drop my Air Force contract just because I received a CJO. I mainly want to understand my options in case the NSA process moves quickly enough that I have two real choices before November.
Any insight from people who have dealt with NSA hiring, federal employment + active duty, USERRA, or a similar situation would be appreciated.

I recently applied to a data science position with the NSA and have made it to the testing portion before interviews. I am looking for tips and subjects to study so I can be fully prepared for this examination. Any help is appreciated.
