I applied for NTU’s PhD program (August 2026 intake) and I’m still waiting to hear back.

Has anyone here any update about the results or interviews? Just trying to see if responses have started going out yet.

Question Falsely Accused of Academic Dishonesty

Hi everyone, I’m feeling pretty lost about this situation and would really appreciate any advice or help from people who may have dealt with something similar before.

Last week, before one of my final exams started, I raised my hand to clarify a question I had with answer formatting and the answer packet. An invigilator came over and gave me instructions, which I followed in good faith during the exam. Nothing we discussed related to exam content.

After the exam, I realized the instructions I received were incorrect and will likely severely affect how my answers are graded. I contacted the course instructors hoping to clarify the situation and ask whether this could be taken into account.

What shocked me was the response I received from Associate Professor Eng Leong Tan. Instead of addressing my issue, he stated that me asking a question to the invigilator “may be regarded as cheating,” said students “should not expect to get satisfactory answers” from exam staff, completely dismissing my concerns and implying that he may escalate the matter into an unsubstantiated academic integrity investigation.

What's concerning is that this directly contradicts NTU’s Instructions to Candidates for Paper Based Exams, where invigilators are explicitly responsible for addressing candidate queries before the exam begins and candidates are required to obey their instructions.

I genuinely do not understand how following instructions given by an official exam invigilator, in response to a question unrelated to exam content, could reasonably be interpreted as potential cheating. Also, importantly, instead of addressing the fact that I received incorrect instructions which may affect my grade, Eng Leong Tan dismissed my concerns entirely.

At this point, I’m worried not only about whether my paper will be graded fairly, but also whether there will be any proper or impartial resolution process regarding the incorrect instructions I was given during the exam. I am also concerned on how I will dispute an unfounded allegation of academic dishonesty.

Has anyone dealt with something similar before, or knows what resources are available in situations like this?

Question Prof made me write his entire paper and then ghosted me??

I’m honestly really upset and I don’t know if I’m overreacting.

About six months ago, I was approached by an NTU prof to work on a manuscript draft FOR FREE.

He said that even though there was no pay, I’d have “writing credits” so as a dumb new undergrad I accepted it for the experience, because I wanted to expand my portfolio.

There was honestly so much work (eg 10 hours every week for no pay) as there was little guidance throughout the process and the prof just gave a skeleton outline for me to follow and write his ENTIRE PAPER. I’m not claiming it was perfect or journal-ready, but I did put in a lot of labour into getting a full draft done.

After that, he basically went silent while he was editing and revising it. I was not looped into the process at ALL.

Out of nowhere months later, I get an email of him criticising my entire manuscript, because the writing and quality didn’t meet his standards for journal submission, and saying the quality is shit. He also says he’ll discuss with me removing the writing credits but at this point I’m done, I don’t care if I get writing credits, I just don’t want to associate with him anymore.

That already annoyed me enough because… okay, if the draft was that lacking, then why was I left completely out of the revision process for months? If I’m junior / inexperienced, wouldn’t that be the exact point where some actual mentorship or feedback would have helped instead of just disappearing and then returning with a postmortem roasting my writing?

I checked his edits and he kept most of my writing and almost all my citations anyways, so right now it feels like my work was stolen just so he could get full writing credits over the research I put in for months.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

Edit: can’t namedrop prof as I’ll still be taking mods under him, so if NTU does nothing about my situation I’ll just get the rest of my undergrad screwed over by him

Question Hall culture/life

Hi, I just wanted to understand how NTU hall culture and life works, as I’m studying in SIT. Recently, my boyfriend has been telling me that he will be going over to a female room to study for upcoming midterms. He said that nothing is going on, but I just wanted to ask—is it normal in hall culture to visit rooms of the opposite gender regularly?

School work, especially for particular modules, will be replied to in a general basis unless more context is provided. Ask away!

Question how did you actually manage your time + explore in uni

Post image
105 Upvotes

BRO MY POST KEEPS GETTING REMOVED. Hello! Current Y1 here, just started classes and I’m already wondering how seniors actually structure their weeks 😭 I have a super cooked timetable (gna have another tues 6.30-9.30pm class in October)

My lectures/tutorials span almost the whole day on some days, and I’m trying to figure out how people balance hall life, CCA, academics, friends and exploring different interests without doing everything and burning out.

Everyone tells me Y1 is the time to “explore”, but what did exploring actually look like for you? What did you try, and looking back, what was actually worthwhile vs stuff you realised wasn’t worth your time?

Also, what do y’all do during random 1h gaps between classes? I have so many scattered throughout my timetable, and once I account for walking/travelling between classes it feels like I lose so much time 😭

I’m seriously scared of burning out cus ik I’m ambitious and wna do a lot but I feel super lost and dk how to structure my time

Does anyone know if the wall behind the ADM building is free to spray on for any student here on NTU?
I could not see any other sign than the small one in the middle of the wall, where it says «ADM spray painting area».

Question Feeling like dropping out

I'm a yr 1 freshie in accountancy and I just went to my first week of classes. To my horror, I realised how many presentations there is going to be and how high the class participation percentage is. As a shy person, I feel very overwhelmed, and I have been crying nearly everyday and I feel quite lost and scared that because of this, my grades would be pulled down. So I have a few questions.

  1. Should I drop out considering it's only the first week and I haven't paid for school fees? I have already paid for 2 months of hall fees but that would be my only loss if i drop out now. Is this too extreme?

  2. Is there anyone from NBS who didn't really participate in class but still did well?

  3. Does it get better (like less presentations next semester or next year)?

Please help answer if you can I just feel so lost and scared now.

Question What are the different NTU halls like?

Hey guys! I’m an 07 kid planning to enter NTU next year, studying MAE and possibly taking a second major in biz. I’m hoping to stay in hall to meet new people and make friends, especially since I don’t really know anyone from my batch who’s going to NTU.
I’m not really a hardcore sports person, but I’m interested in volunteering, cultural activities, exploring new things and playing sports casually. I’m hoping to find a hall with chill, sociable people and a good community.
For those currently staying in hall, what are the different halls like in terms of culture and social life? Also, how was your experience applying for hall as a freshman? Are there any halls you’d recommend for someone like me, and is it difficult to secure a room?
Would appreciate any advice or personal experiences, thanks!! 🙏

Question Honest opinions on NTU? (Nanyang Technological University) / Singapore

I’m considering NTU for an undergraduate/ bachelor’s degree in robotics. I came across a lot of mixed opinions about the university, so I’m curious to know how well-regarded it is globally. Are there good opportunities and connections available? Is the education worth the investment?

I’m considering it because the robotics course appears promising, with projects and opportunities. However, apparently, the courses are poorly managed, so I'm not sure. Especially, because I'm an international student. So i would really appreciate any expeirences on whether it is worth it or not :)

Question Which NTU professor inspired you the most?

Hi everyone!

I'm an incoming freshman in Bioengineering with a Second Major in Data Analytics, and I'm really excited to start at NTU this semester.

I have two questions and would love to hear from seniors across different schools.

1. Bioengineering
How are the professors in the Bioengineering programme overall?
Are there any lecturers you think are particularly good at teaching, explaining difficult concepts clearly, or genuinely care about students' learning? I'd also appreciate hearing about professors you think I should look forward to (or be prepared for 😄).

2. Across all of NTU
More generally, have you ever taken a course taught by a professor who completely changed the way you learned or thought about a subject?

I'm not necessarily looking for the "easiest A" or the most famous researcher. I'm much more interested in professors who are:

  • passionate about teaching,
  • explain concepts deeply instead of just reading slides,
  • encourage curiosity and critical thinking,
  • and leave a lasting impact on students.

If someone comes to mind, could you share:

  • the professor's name,
  • the course they taught,
  • and what made them such a memorable teacher?

I'd love to explore interesting electives in the future as well, so recommendations from any school are welcome.

Thanks in advance! :)

Question Essay was flagged for ai

Got flagged 90% AI on turnitin for my CC0001 essay

Previously was flagged 72% and my prof said she wanted to talk to me, and mentioned that turnitin can be inaccurate but in the end she didn't and we js continued with the asisgnment. The only think I can think of is I can explain my essay and I had the draft with my prof comments and my interviews and sources. Sooo technically is ok js want to here from some ppl.

This time I check and it was 90% however my essay was handwritten by me with my own personal experiences and interviews. It may be due to my structuring as it was academic style so maybe they flagged it due to that cause on zerogpt it shows 50% on grammarly it's 10%. So I'm confused. Has anyone had a similar situation where the score was high but nothing happen? What did your prof actually do after seeing the report?
