NEWS PERS Information Team!!

BLUF: Your Enlisted Distribution Team has an announcement! Detailing questions, policy explanations, and general career information are going to be explained and updated on one central, official site. Check it out here!

https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Detailing/Enlisted/PERS-Information-Team/

How it came to be….

A few weeks ago, at a safety and training stand down, we got told to make sure all our social media posts were in accordance with Navy policy and to ensure our detailing wasn’t done outside of official channels “like on Reddit.”

Some Senior Chief raised his hand and told our Captain that the reason certain detailers are using Reddit, Discord, and Facebook and that our Sailors are turning to The Fat Chief, the SEM Facebook group, and u/YouAreGoingToGuam for answers is because policy has changed so rapidly that there’s a huge breakdown in understanding and nobody knows how to navigate the new policy. He asked our CO “well, if we can’t use Reddit, what CAN we could do to fix the communication issues between us and the fleet?”

In true Navy fashion, that Senior got told he was going to now run a committee to figure out how to solve that question.

In keeping with the highest of naval traditions the committee obviously needed a name and an acronym, and thus: PERS Information Team, aka The PIT!

The PIT wanted their site to be up and running before the APPLY phase goes live tonight at midnight. The PIT Crew polled the detailers and placement and BBA team and aggregated hundreds of frequently asked questions. They made a bunch of guides, and gave the PAO team pages and pages of data and asked for them to make a bunch of infographics and fact sheets.

The first two are up on the page. MORE ARE COMING!

The PIT is doing their best to help your detailing team plug this communication gap. I think I speak for all detailers when I say that we want you guys to understand how detailing works, to have more ownership and control over your career. We want you to understand the rules of the game so you can play. The PIT is working really hard to get more content up on the page. So please check it out and come back frequently! Print these Infographics and FAQ sheets and post it at work! Read them at quarters!

TLDR: check out your newest detailing source: https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Detailing/Enlisted/PERS-Information-Team/

And I guess, let’s turn this into an AMA? I’ll make sure the PIT gets these questions too 😂

History Random memory: In 2002 Bruce Willis bought tens of thousands of boxes of Girl Scout cookies and sent them to deployed service members overseas

His daughter was a Girl Scout and he ordered all of them through her. I remember getting a pallet of them vertrep-ed to us when we were deployed on a westpac. One box for everyone aboard. Thanks for the thin mints, Bruno. Did any of you oldheads get one?

Discussion USS Delbert D Black needs to start coming home

DDG 119 has been out since jan 3rd this year , with extensions and nearing 10 months of deployment plus the time needed to come home. It’s one team one fight till one ship is staying longer than all the other ships ( i’m not gonna name the ships but some ships have even been out there LESS time and are on their way home.) no one is talking about this and it needs to start happening, i’m putting this out there to see if anyone can help or if anyone higher up reading this even cares. they are tired and morale is low, it’s hard to keep on going not knowing when you’ll come home , people have missed out on births , birthdays , holidays. bring our sailors home :(

Discussion Are NWU patches still a thing?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Do yall remember NWU patches from the blueberries? They had them at my first command, VAW-115, I never got one since we switched to type 3s a few months after I got there. They said they were gonna get new brown/tan ones for the type 3s but never saw that. Were these just discontinued when type 3s came out? Sorry I don't have a picture of the squadrons patch but this was an example I found online.

Discussion Active vs passive voice

• Upvotes

Where do they teach senior officers that I am by no means allowed to have a "passive voice" sentence in my messages, critiques, etc? Is this like an SCC thing and it's the first grammar rule they have learned and they cling to it? Did they all just read a specific book or is it a real rule?

For instance sometimes the emphasis of the sentence SHOULD be on the action being done, not the doer, if you are saying that isbthe important thing.

"Address the training that took place before the critique event"

"The pre-evolution training was not conducted fully due to the ship underway moving ahead 2 days."

I have tried to have this debate with several O5 + and at some point they get a blank stare and say "active voice is better" like its a religious tenet.

HELP REQUESTED How to know if I received unit award?

So I checked in my command middle of their deployment and at the end of it we received a unit award. How do I know if I am eligible to wear it? Do I go by the citation dates listed in the citation? The period it covers was sometime beginning of the year to August. I checked in way before August. Thank you.

HELP REQUESTED How does TAR work?

Does anyone have experience with TAR?
I’m a reservist and I’m considering going TAR but how does it work exactly? The only thing I’d be worried about is being stationed over seas with it lol. I’d prefer in the states but idk how it works.

History The Newport Naval March & Two-Step

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Arthur F. Fenner composed this march and two-step in 1908. This video features Thomas Edison films of daily life at the Newport Naval Station, recorded in 1900. The footage is preserved as part of the Library of Congress Digital Archives, providing a rare glimpse into the naval community that inspired Fenner's music.

Shouldn't have to ask RKE Results Timeline

I took the most recent RKE for my rate, and was confused on the timeline for results. I was in student status for a while so I couldn’t take the NWAE or the first RKE when it switched over. Are the results on the same timeline they were under the NWAE (i.e. should I expect them around thanksgiving?) TIA

Discussion Worried beard regulations could end my Navy career

I genuinely want to stay in the Navy and continue my career, but the current beard/shaving regulations have me worried about eventually being administratively separated over something I’ve struggled with for years.
I’m African American, and clean shaving has always been extremely hard on my skin. I’ve tried basically every recommendation I’ve been given — different razors, shaving techniques, products, skin-care routines, research, letting the skin heal, etc. Nothing has consistently worked. When I clean shave, my face can flare up badly. I get painful bumps, some fill with pus, and sometimes my face bleeds enough that I’ve had to replace pillowcases/pillows because of blood getting on them. It’s not just a few cosmetic razor bumps.
I’ve only recently had to start clean shaving again and the irritation is already coming back. I’m planning to go to medical again and continue getting everything documented, because I’m trying to handle this the right way.
What worries me is the long-term situation with the Navy’s beard regulations and the possibility of eventually being separated if I medically cannot maintain a clean shave. I’m not trying to get out of shaving just because I want a beard. If I could clean shave without tearing my face up, I would.
Has anyone here dealt with severe PFB/razor bumps long-term under the newer policies? Did medical actually help you find something that worked, were you able to maintain a shaving waiver, or did it eventually affect your ability to stay in?
I want to stay Navy. I’m just worried about being forced to choose between repeatedly damaging my skin and potentially losing my career.
