Turismo/Tourism Is it safe to travel as a US citizen?

For the record I think it is… I want to go to the Corn Islands for my birthday in August. My family is trying to convince me that everyone hates Americans (fair- I hate us right now) and that travel to a country next to Venezuela is not safe.

Is there any truth to an increase in danger to travelers? Obviously there is petty crime anywhere and you need to be safe and alert. But there was a shooting a couple miles from me last night so danger is relative.

I’ve wanted to go to Nicaragua for years and this is the first time I’ve been in a position to go. It’s such a beautiful country. Thank you all. I hope to visit soon :)

Turismo/Tourism Is Managua safe for solo female travelers?

The Internet has mixed opinions on Nicaragua... Especially the city of Managua. I want to ask the locals for their advice and opinions, on safety and restaurants to try, and sights to see in the city.

I was hoping to plan a small 10 day trip to Nicaragua, and it appears everyone seems to skip Managua and go straight to the other cities..... why is this? is it because of safety?

i was already informed to skip taxis and use chicken bus and inDrive apps instead. I visited Panamá before, although i was with a man then.

i speak a little bit of Spanish (getting better every day)

for context.. I am a Canadian girl. I have very fair skin, dark hair, dark eyes, and have tattoos. Do i have a target on my back because of that?

thanks in advance :)

Turismo/Tourism Is there any racism or there was any racism in Nicaragua?

I was in a big what you can say street market in Managua a few days ago and it called my attention I was called "negrito" which sounds similar to the N word.

However after having a chat with others this is a common thing among and it has no bad connotation. For which leads to think why is the N word not a thing in Nicaragua or in Latin America?

I was also amused to see some guys wearing what looks to be KKK uniforms in catholic rallies.

Edit: Thanks all for your explanations. I wish I could reply to all of you but I have limited time to check my phone but I read most of the comments and now I understand a bit more of your culture and how is that the word negro is just a color with no really bad connotation (depending in the context or the tone of who says it of course)

All I can say is that Nicaragua is an amazing country with fun, charming and kind people. My time here is almost over but getting to know this place and their people was awesome and I'm really looking forward returning again to drink more rum, eat more moronga and to be called "negrito amor" or "chele que vas llevar" in the street market.

I am going to be traveling to Liberia Costa Rica for about a week. I am really considering hiring a guide for a day trip to Nicaragua around Granada area. I am an American citizen. Is this feasible? I know there are existing guides and planning on using one just want to know the situation in Nicaragua. Wth a guide am I likely to have issues with police or random dentition? Appreciate any advice.

He visto fotos y se ve bonito.

Turismo/Tourism Planning to travel for 5 days in early November. Any tips or advice?

Hello, I am planning to travel to Nicaragua early November and was curious as to what I should be aware of coming as a solo traveler 20M asian.

My plan as of now is to go down to Ometepe and hike the concepcion volcano and travel up to Leon to do the volcano boarding. Is this viable in 5 days period? What transportation should I be taking when traveling across Nicaragua?

I don't speak Spanish, but I have experienced Latin America through Guatemala, Peru and Mexico. Apart from general common sense when it comes to traveling, are there anything to note before coming?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

The only thing I can find online shows this was repealed back in 2023 - any help massively appreciated!!

Turismo/Tourism English speakers

I was surprised that this Reddit page for Nicaragua was an English and not Spanish. Why is that? I know that there are not a whole lot of English speakers in Nicaragua in general. Maybe less than 10% of the population is fluent in English?

Turismo/Tourism Traveling to Nicaragua with a child- advice appreciated

Hi, I’m going to be traveling to San Juan del Sur with my 9 year old, I’m traveling solo with her, my friend moved there so she will be picking us up hopefully if not getting a driver to San Juan. I’m a bit nervous traveling alone with my child though, how safe is it? Is there anything I should be concerned about? I’m particularly nervous because we have different last names, I have sole custody and restraining order against her father and i am planning on bringing her birth certificate but I’m still nervous that something could happen because we have different last names. Has anyone had any experiences traveling with child with different surnames and by themselves? I’m also a female so that’s why I’m a bit nervous traveling alone with my child. I’m hoping I’m just being paranoid and everything will go smoothly but I want to be prepared. This will be our first time out of the country.

Turismo/Tourism ¿Qué hacer en Nicaragua?

Hola!

Lugares: Leon, Managua, Masaya, Granada, Rivas.

Turismo/Tourism Llegar barato a Managua

¡Buenas!

Turismo/Tourism Looking for advice crossing the border from Costa Rica to Nicaragua

My husband and I will be visiting Central America this December, starting in Costa Rica. Would it be safe to cross the border from Costa Rica to Nicaragua? Thinking of using the Tica Bus. Thanks.
