Hello everyone, I'm trying to check up on my discord friend. He's been offline for almost 6 months now and left without any information about going offline. I just want to make sure everything is alright, I have known him for around 3-4 years. The details I can share are
I can share a video from his sugarcane farm, it's a sugarcane farm , the surrounding areas are farms too and there is a US base near village. There is a beach close by. I don't know the name though.
Any information will be helpful thank you.
Edit: Found the location. A kind redditor and a local helped me find the location. I will see what I can do from here. Thank you everyone for your help.

Zamami snorkeling gear/equipment
Hello, I’ll be in Zamami soon. Does anyone know if you can buy or hire snorkelling gear near the port, and how much it costs?
Thanks, everyone!

Okinawa in March without a car: Naha, Ishigaki or Miyakojima?
Hello everyooone!
I'm planning a trip to Okinawa in March 2027 (13th-20th) and I'm struggling. I was thinking of spending 2 days in Naha and 4 days in Ishigaki, but I'm also considering Miyakojima (maybe not suggested without a car?).
I speak Japanese (N2) and I have lived in Japan in the past, so I can move around easily, but this will be my first time in Okinawa.
I'm mainly interested in:
- Ryukyu history, castles and traditional culture
- Local crafts and ceramics, ideally visiting workshops
- Impressive nature, forests, waterfalls and mangroves
- Kayaking & snorkelling,
- Cycling, walking around local neighbourhoods, cafés and trying local food
- Whale watching, I know March is a good time!
I'm not renting a car, so I'll rely on public transport, bikes, ferries and guided tours for minor islands. I'm not particularly interested in beaches (sinc ethe weather will be chill) or nightlife, and I'd prefer not to change hotels too often.
Which islands would you recommend for my interests?
Is 2 days in Naha + 4 in Ishigaki a good plan, and is Ishigaki doable without a car?
Also, which areas would you recommend staying in?
and are there any must-do activities or day trips I shouldn't miss?
I'd love recommendations or past experiences.
Thanksssss!

Info Bugs I found while walking in Okinawa
The blue/greenish snail is the first one I have seen in that color. I usually see small brown ones or a large brown snail. The other one looks like a slug and the last one looks like a caterpillar to become a butterfly.

Tips on moving to Okinawa?
I’m currently a sophomore in high school who wants to move to Okinawa. I used to live in Sunabe while my dad had SOFA and my mom taught English. I used to live there for 9 years.
I would hope to get a remote job rather than SOFA. I plan to go to college after highschool or not move at all if I don’t get accepted (honestly I’m not that smart). Planning on getting a cybersecurity degree, or at least tech related.
Can anyone offer advice on moving here? I need to know if you would recommend it to me. I have been wanting to move back for a while now, but worried if it‘s even for me.

Playing beach volley?
Hi,
We're a french couple playing volleyball often and we wonder if there are some beaches when people gather to play beach volley and we can share a game or two.
We'll be based at Onna but rent a car so we can move also.
Thanks!

Full time language school, culinary school
Hello, I’m looking for the best full time language schools in Okinawa. I learn best under structure and would like to learn from the ground up, and pass the Japanese fluency tests. I can dedicate 1-2 years full time to this (or more if needed). I would then like to attend full time culinary school which Appears to only be taught in Japanese.
I’ll have SOFA status.

Snorkel recommendations
Hey everyone, I’m near Nago right now with my 12 year old son and we would like to go snorkeling. He needs a wet suit and I need the complete set. Is there a place where I can buy a mask + snorkel? I found someone who rents out wetsuits.
Do we have to go to a beach with a net to avoid the jellyfish?
Thank you in advance

Let’s share our recommendations for the best Okinawa soba spots in 2026!
My go-to spot is Miyako Soba Ai in Nakamachi, Okinawa City. I’ve been going there for a while, and they always take good care of me! 🍜🤙

Ishigaki post typhoon
Hey folks, I’m currently travelling in Japan and have been following the typhoons path. I was hoping to fly to Ishigaki next week for a week to chill at the beach and do some diving. Would appreciate if anyone could share what the impact of the typhoon has been, I hope things are okay!

So what's the Japanese opinion on the Okinawan accent?
So if you're familiar with Terminator, many people think Arnold's accent sounds so cool that he even volunteered to do a German dub of his character again but the German dub company turned him down because both Germans, Austrians, and German speakers in general thought he sounded like a redneck, hillbilly, or farmer, basically rural. So they had a nonchalant stoic German voice actor dub the T-800.
So I'm working on an indie manga series about a vengeful badass protagonist who's from Okinawa and takes pride in his culture. I thought if my series were to ever have a Japanese dub, he should have an Okinawan accent to reflect his background but I heard some Japanese mainlanders describe the Okinawan accent as "country bumpkin", "exotic", or "cute". One Japanese person said the Okinawan accent sounds very cheerful and relaxed, and that a vengeful character with that kind of accent might sound scary. I watched some anime of a few Okinawan characters who are often portrayed as tough karate fighters (like the character Kanna Kirishima from the anime Sakura Wars) and they sound Japanese but rougher and deeper which sounds badass from other people's perspectives. So would my protagonist be taken seriously as a menacing badass if he had an authentic Okinawan accent or would it be similar to the Arnold situation?

Things to do this weekend
Hi everyone!
It’s my first time in Okinawa, and I’m visiting from New Zealand with my siblings. We’re staying in Urasoe and have a car to get around.
We were hoping to do some outdoor activities, but due to the weather that might be off the cards. We visited Kokusai Dori and op shops today. Do you have any recommendations for things we can do over the weekend?
Thank you 😊

Recommendations for a tourist to do today and tomorrow?
It looks like we’ve missed the worst of Champi 🙏 but the weather is still not great. I’m in Naha today and tomorrow (without a car), and was wondering if you had any recommendations for things to do in light of the current weather conditions? Appreciate any and all suggestions 🙇♀️

Champi and Naha today
Am in Okinawa as a tourist and was due to travel into Naha today to tour and sightsee.
I am about an hour away by car.
Would you guys go or stay in?
I’m concerned about the state of the roads / flooding and getting back this evening.
I’m due to get in the taxi in about an hour and a half so any replies are appreciated!
EDIT: thanks to everyone that replied. I am on the way back now. Interestingly not a drop of rain the whole time despite all the forecasts I looked at. I really appreciated the advice as I think I might have not ventured out at all if I’d not gotten some local knowledge.

Anywhere to shop for jfashion/harajuku styles here?
Hiya! Super excited to spend some time here for the next few weeks. I'll be skipping tokyo this year, where I get most of my J fashion items, but loooove harajuku-esque styles. Any shops on the main island that happen to have that vibe? Thanks in advance!
