PSA: REPORT ALL AI DO NOT INTERACT
I just removed a graphically violent AI slop video involving a fake cocktoo being murdered. I expect this to happen again.
THEY AREN'T REAL.
PLEASE for the love of all that's good, if you run into a violent or suspected AI slop post, DO NOT INTERACT WITH IT. Report it. Report it. JUST REPORT IT.
Do NOT give it engagement, do not try to talk to the person, YOU CAN'T CONVINCE PEOPLE NOT TO DO THIS. For these kinds of posts, any engagement is considered good engagement. Even downvoting and condemnation is engagement. DO NOT.
Let your mod team handle this.

Rule 1: Be civil and respectful. What does that really mean?
Hello /r/parrots community! It’s your friendly neighborhood mod team here.
This sub doesn’t have too many rules, but perhaps the most important is to be civil and respectful towards others. We do not tolerate rudeness or personal attacks, regardless of context. You may ask why we take this rule so seriously.
While it’s never a bad idea to just generally be nice, we also have this rule for a very important reason: to help people take better care of their birds. How, you may ask? We strive very hard to keep this community a place where people feel comfortable asking questions so they can receive feedback.
We recognize that people feel very strongly about parrot husbandry, and that seeing birds in conditions that are not ideal can be difficult, but we also know that making attacks or being snarky doesn’t help anyone. Instead, it makes people defensive or nervous to ask questions. When we fail to foster a community where people can look for advice, the parrots lose. Every time.
Our general rule of thumb is this: you shouldn’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person to someone you know. Remember that there is a human on the other end of the exchange you’re having. If you’re disagreeing with them, be constructive and kind. Give the sort of advice you’d like to receive. Remember that you may be talking to people in tough situations, or a kid, or someone who has been given outdated information.
Very importantly, if someone violates this rule in their response to you, do not respond in kind. Instead, please report the comment.
That report button is one of the most important tools we have as a community! We check threads all the time, but with a constant stream of new content, it’s always possible for us to miss something.
We ask that you please hit that report button if you believe someone is violating the rules. The moderators review each and every post or comment that gets reported, and we will take action as appropriate. You can also reach our team via modmail if you have an issue.
We appreciate your help keeping the subreddit friendly and welcoming. We are grateful to everyone who contributes their time and experience to help people learn about parrots, to everyone who asks for help when they need advice, and to the folks who share their wonderful birds with us!
All the best,
The /r/parrots mods

Advice on b&g macaw
So this is kind of a long post, and I apologize in advance.
I posted i was looking for a new bird to add to our flock on the nextdoor app...didnt really think anybody would respond- but a woman did, she has a few she is looking to rehome- including a blue and gold macaw, she literally lives a street over, and wants me to come hang out and get to know them(the parrots) and what not.
The macaw is in love with her husband and completely switched up on her- being very protective and she said aggressive. It just happened over the last year. His name is Dodo, and he lunges at her anytime she is near his cage, wont accept anything out of her hand anymore, chases her around, etc. When she walks into the room he starts aggresively chewing his leg as well...she said he used to love her so much and then she started working more and now it is the complete opposite...HOWEVER she said that he is apparently very friendly with anybody else and accepts treats from others etc...she said it is ONLY her.
She also said none of them except maybe their caique are very 'social' anymore as they dont get to get out much due to life circumstances changing, working more, etc.
So, I am wondering- what can I do to get to know this macaw in particular? Her husband will be gone while I am there visiting and what not- so that is good. But i'm worried that since we will be in the same space/their house...i just don't know what to do/how to bond there lol. Also, I did already ask her if shed be comfortable to let me in with him without her, since she makes him so angry- and she absolutely agreed.
Looking for any information/info/advice on this situation...any extra info on macaws in general that maybe I should know about. Maybe your macaws favorite toys/things/treats...also, she clips his wings. I do not clip any of my parrots wings. Would that be something i should continue? Or can i just not? He is 10.
I am going over there starting tomorrow- and I just want it to hopefully go well😅
Pic just for attention. And yes, I do already own parrots! I am just new to a macaw potentially being in my home...but i do have some experience with them from others. Thanks!!

Need advice : fostering a blind amazon parrot
(english isn't my first langage, please excuse my mistakes)
I currently foster 2 amazon parrots one of them being nearly blind.
He just had last week one eye removed due to a puncture wound, and has limited vision due to vitamin deficiency scars in the other eye, to the point he can only see shadows and luminosity changes in his peripheral vision but can't identify any object, distance or texture without touching. He also misses a few claws but usually he moves pretty well in his cage.
He's really scared of humans, hands and touch, probably never was properly cared for, and probably never desensitised to anything. He was uterly traumatised when he was abandoned at the shelter, we don't know his past or age. He's with me for a month now, but was in pain before surgery so we couldn't really work on anything except learning how to navigate the cage (the vet wanted to try everything before getting rid of the bad eye, due to the risks of the surgery but we finally had to remove it).
Right now he is recovering, and we managed to build a litlle bit of trust : he accepts to take a treat from a metallic bowl when I touch his beak with it (thank god it allows me to give him medecine without catching him).
He is now used to his cage but don't want to interact at the door or behind bars so I can't really make him go out/work with the contact of the skin behind metal bars or outside the cage.
He went out of the cage in the room 3 times, (by himself, I open the door and wait, I never take him out except when we had to go to the vet) but can't figure out how he got there and how to come back despite having perchs near the door and a vocal cue to indicate if the door is open or close. During the healing process he has to stay in his cage so he can't come out for the next 2weeks.
Since the surgery he doesn't show any sign of agressivity or pain anymore (he used to bite the air around him when spooked by anything, touch or sound, but it was likely enhanced by the pain). Though I guess if I were to touch him he will bite hard according to my attempt to catch him to go to the vet, I'm thankfull for the gloves and could feel it even with the right protection.
How would you train him to accept touch/step up and to go in/out of his cage once he's healed ?
What would you do to build trust and to give him the best chance at a happy life ?
Also what treat would you use ? We need something low in fat but big enough for him to grab easily.
I already have a few idea but would really appreciate to talk with people that have walked this path before to avoid common mistakes.
Ps : it's my first time fostering/having birds, let alone a cranky blind amazon parrot, but I'm patient and dedicated, he is curious and I know it will be a long road ahead. I try to educate myself as much as possible and they can't legally be rehomed elsewhere for now, please be kind 😊

Do you ever work with your parrots?
I mean, do you ever need to do work while being with you parrots?
Trying to write while using a blanket to protect my screen from beaks after my conure Fable broke my laptop camera.
One itty bitty parrot on each arm who were both fully content to ignore me five minutes earlier.
Judging by Fable nipping me, I apparently typed too fast. Too much jostling… for a bird who loves to be bounced up and down when music is playing! 😂

Should I finally rehome my bird?
I have a GC conure for about 5 years now. and it has been hard caring for her needs while working and being in school.
I myself never wanted a pet till after college but my family end up gifting me with a full time responsibility during Christmas years back while I was still in highschool. I’m not the type of person to neglect an animal but because I never wanted this bird, I had thought about rehoming her since the beginning.
After a year of having her I had enough with the noise, mess, and constant feeds and toy bills. It was too much for me so I had a bird friend who was gonna take her in until my mother found out and threw a whole fit about me being a bad pet owner and a disrespectful child for treating my family this way over a wholehearted gift.
I got pretty depressed after that argument and had been putting up with bird care till today. I love my bird but I don’t think my mind is there to fully love her. I had recently moved to my own place and I honestly don’t know what to do. Since now I do have the money to fully care for her but deep down I cant think of 1 good reason to keep her around.

melon pog! & pomegranate side eye
I recently introduced some new fruits to the Macaws I'm training. Mika(first picture) loves melons & broccoli, Maverick(second picture) likes to hold his food himself. I do not know if I was deserving of the side eye.

Overpreening
Has anyone else experienced there parrot foot tapping or foot stamping and overpreening his feet ? His been to the vet and he acted normal infront of them and we done a blood test his organs a clear the next step the vet said is maybe a heavy metal test but she said his not showing typical heavy metal signs since this has been going on for a year and his still eating fine without a decline ? We also tried anti inflammatorys with no improvement ? EDIT IT IS NOT HIS PERCHES OR BEHAVIOR HIS CAGE IS 2 meteres tall and he has multiple perches flat perches and natural wood Java perches I’ve changed his natural perches every fortnight for thr last year and only just tried one smooth dowel , I repeat IT IS NOT A PERCH OR BEHAVIOR ISSUE
