Providence’s presumptive incoming mayor and city council president say it’s time to take the cameras down, citing data privacy concerns. But police say the technology has been vital.

The city's flock contract (60 cameras, about $160k a year) was supposed to run out this saturday. now the city says it actually runs until may 2027. the council has moved to scrap flock and plate readers anyway, and the mayor wants to keep them. the city has never said where its 60 are.

Volunteers on openstreetmap (The Deflock Project) have logged 240 plate readers in providence county and 222 of them are flock. 88 are inside providence itself. that's 28 more than the contract covers, so some of them aren't the city's.

around the city it's cranston 27, woonsocket 20, pawtucket 19, east providence 18, cumberland 11. 14 are tagged cranston pd. 3 are tagged lowe's and 2 home depot. 197 of the 222 have no owner tagged at all.

Whatever the council decides, it decides about the city's 60. nobody has said whose the other 28 are.

Cheap night of heavy music!

Essentially the title. Looking for good acupuncture and/or TCM practitioners in the Providence area. Very open to Ayurvedic practitioners as well, though I think that is more unlikely so I didn’t include in the title.

Nothing harmful or illegal I just want to send a message to someone in that area I’m no where near there but someone over there scammed me out of a good chunk of money and they had no consequences whatsoever but they were stupid enough not to realize that they sent me mail from there address so would someone help me egg them leave an ominous note saying like better stop scamming or something to send the message for them to stop cause I did some research I’m not the only one that’s been scammed and the place we were contacting through doesn’t care and won’t do anything about it and it’s not enough money for the police to get involved but it’s still bad and they deserve a good message so dm me if you can help and ill keep in contact but I’m busy a lot so might not respond instantly or for a day but I will tell you everything I know

I have lived just down the street for 5 months and now and I have only seen that parking lot full ONE TIME. This is just not adding up

Maybe a week ago or so, when I was driving to work (7:15-7:30am), about to take exit 36B on 95N (yknow, just past the horrors of 36A that clogs up the whole highway), some sedan tried to sliiiiide right in front of me to also exit and I’ll be damned but I’m pretty sure they had a Cid Highwind bumper sticker: scruffy blonde hair, cigarette dangling out of his mouth, goggles. After that, we both went into the far right lane to take a right, but then I kept driving further to cross the bridge. Anyways, just wanna say that I’m grumpy in the morning but I’d let Cid Highwind merge any day. I hope you had a great day at work or wherever you were going, random person.
