AI resort and activity recommendation for a visist with 5 yrs old

Hi everyone! We are a family of three (including our 5-year-old) planning a 5-to-7-day trip to Punta Cana during the last week of November.

We’ve stayed at Cancun RIU resorts three times in the past and loved them—our main priorities are beautiful beaches, great food, plenty of kid-friendly resort activities, and nightly entertainment for both kids and adults.

We're considering splitting our stay between a RIU property and Hyatt Ziva.

A few specific questions:

  1. Which RIU resort in Punta Cana is best for a 5-year-old compared to Hyatt Ziva?
  2. Is splitting a 5-to-7-day stay between these two resorts worth the hassle of switching hotels?
  3. What are the best off-resort activities for a young child (e.g., animal encounters/zoos, child-friendly excursions, or top beaches)?

Dreams Onyx & Breathless

** Cross posted in multiple groups **

Reservation booked (Dreams swim up preferred) for January & counting down the days! Scrolling through here answered tons of our questions, but wanted to ask a few of our own.

What is the general modesty level with swimwear? We are leaving the kids at home, and would love to show some skin without getting in trouble. (Does it differ at Breathless Vs Dreams?)

Same question regarding clothing in general! (Does it differ at Breathless Vs Dreams?)

Beach towels vs room towels - I'm only seeing one "Towel hut" on the map for each property. What's the pool/beach towel situation?

Pools appear to close at 6pm. We have a swim-up (not private pool); is there any time restriction on those? Is there restriction on night swimming in the ocean? Does the "Party pool" at Breathless close at any point?

Dreams appears to use hotel style room keys. How is preffered identified? Bracelets?

For the neon/white/foam parties at Breathless; are they assigned days of the week consistently, or is it something that is announced in the activity page of the app?

Lastly, the infamous taco truck by the water park at Dreams... part of the resort, or cash payments?

Thank you so much in advance for the insights!!!

Are Dreams Onyx and Dreams Flora considered luxury resorts?

For context, those are the only two resorts I’ve stayed at. The amenities were great, never felt cramped and flora seemed more like a boutique resort. But being the only two resorts I know, I don’t have anything else to compare them to.

Punta Cana to La Romana

I will arrive in Punta Cana but me and my wife need to get to La Romana to go on a cruise ship.

I read found a taxi for around 60 eur on Booking, but I just wanted to check if there are any reliable buses between the two that are SAFE and cheaper. I have plenty of time to catch the ship, so I wanted to see what's the situation.

Punta Cana

I read a lot of different opinions on bringing in a vape. I went two weeks ago and that security was a joke. You put your items through an old school xray machine and you walk around it. They didn’t check me or my wife. Glad we brought a vape with us.

Bayahibe 🛗 Punta Cana

Is it easy to get from Bayahibe to Punta Cana, (we have no car or driver license) and what does it cost approximately? We'd like to do two or three excursions during our vacation there. :)

Where is the cheapest place to withdraw money? Because of the exchange rate (we're from Europe-Germany ). <3

Dreams Onyx at Christmas

We are a family of four, with a teenager and a tween. We are headed to Dreams Onyx the week leading up to Christmas and I'm starting to get nervous about the crowds. I'm reading very mixed reviews about the quality of the service and food, wait times for the restaurants, lack of seating at the pools, etc. Could you either confirm my fears or better yet put my mind at ease? We have booked a premium room, not preferred. We are not high maintenance and have realistic expectations about traveling at that time of year, but I don't want it to be a nightmare. Please give me some info on what it's like there at Christmas time. Thanks!

PADI certification

I am going to be in Punta Cana for a week and am interested in getting my PADI open water certification and am wondering if anyone had any recs for places to go with? I will be staying at an all inclusive, but they do not offer the course. I know some places offer the course in 2 days and you complete the online classroom work beforehand. I would prefer that as my trip is only a week and I do not want to spend the entire time in the course. Thanks!

Cheap hotel near-ish to the airport

Partner and I are flying in on December 18 for a week long stay elsewhere, but our rental doesn’t start till the 19th so need a one-night stay near the airport. Doesn’t need to be perfect, just not scammy, safe, walkable to coffee or restaurants would be ideal. Trying to stay on the cheap side. Any suggestions are welcome!

Weather?

Hi, I am travelling with family to Punta Cana from the US over the weekend. I see the weather forecast gives a high percentage of rain each day, is the weather really that bad? Or is it just occasionally light rain? What is the rather currently?

I’ve checked weather apps but not sure how accurate they are as I see on some social media channels the weather is fine.

Wondering what to pack. Thank you.

Majestic Colonial

Hello! First time in the DR and we are staying at the Majestic colonial in Feb. I know it’s going to be under a renovation this fall (hoping everything is finished on time).

Does anyone have any suggestions of things we should do inside or outside the resort? Very active family with young kids. I feel like I don’t see a lot of reviews of this particular property.

Private Snorkelling?

We are staying at El Faro- would like to book a private tour for myself and my mom to snorkel on the carribean side. She isn't a fan of party cruises and we're looking for something a little more eco-conscious. Are there any recommendations for either private tour or small group (6-8 people max) that would include pick up and drop off from the hotel?

Heading to El Beso in a few weeks. Wondering if we really need to bring our own tubes for the lazy river, or if there are enough available there?

Recomendaciones de tours y algo más

Voy a inicios de noviembre y quisiera saber si tienen algĂșn contacto de toures o un aproximado de cuĂĄnto debo pagar, mi esposa y yo tenemos pensado ir a

Isla saona
Montar en buggies
Ir a coco bongo

Muchas gracias

Next week

I’m going to Punta Cana next week, and I’m really nervous about the weather because the forecast is showing rain all week. I’m also staying at Dreams Flora and wanted to know if anyone has any experience staying there!
