I’m going to the Halloween event at Coors next weekend and I’m wondering if they’d let me in with this bag or confiscate it? Also want to take a small digital camera but unsure if they would take it at the door.
Never been to an event there before so not sure how tough they are with stuff like that

Question ❔ Rec Sports

I am looking to get back into sports 25M — played competitive soccer and volleyball growing up and looking to join a rec league! Any options available? I live in Martensville, but okay with anywhere around Saskatoon for sure! Definitely open just being an extra on a team for when needed! Ideally looking for rec vball, either mens or co-ed is fine, but open to soccer as well.

Question ❔ Seager Wheeler ground-floor rooms; which room numbers are best?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey guys I’m moving into Seager Wheeler at Usask in January 2027, and I’ve been assigned a room on the ground floor.
For anyone who’s lived in Seager Wheeler, are certain room numbers or floors better than others? 👀
I’m wondering whether the ground floor is a good place to live, or if the higher floors are better in terms of privacy, noise, cleanliness, bugs, and the overall living experience.
Also, does anyone know if specific bedrooms have advantages or disadvantages depending on their location in the building?
I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually lived there, especially anyone who lived on the ground floor recently. Thank you!

Rants 🤬 Kids sports now a days

So quick philosophical question here- what is happening with youth sports and recreation in Saskatoon (probably everywhere but let’s keep it local.) does anyone else feel stressed at how much organizations, money, and travel happens now with kids sports teams? I don’t think I would have ever participated back in the day if it required that much parent involvement.

Also- just want to say a hot take that high school sports should be reserved for kids who want to play sports but aren’t already playing highest tier sports already. What is the point they are already playing in a high division- why can’t other kids participate and play?

General Canada can end homelessness. Cities in the U.S. are showing it can be done

Approach to a problem Saskatoon is very much dealing with.

From the article, 3 areas to focus on:

“First, house people first. Shift investments toward social and supportive housing. The return on investment has been demonstrated at length. We cannot treat diabetes or cancer in encampments and keep blaming individuals for poor health outcomes.

Second, co-ordinate a system of compassion and sound evidence. There needs to be better integration across housing, health, justice and community sectors. The fragmentation amongst and within sectors comes at a very real human cost. And finally, let’s acknowledge homelessness as the generational health crisis that it is. Every dollar we decline to spend in housing, we spend several times over in emergency departments, hospital wards, prison cells and shelter beds. “

Food & Restaurants 🍽️ bowl of heaven changes

I used to love the beef noodle soup from bowl of heaven, but i see they changed menus and owners. I’m seeing reviews that the soup isn’t really the same anymore, had anyone tried their soups and could recommend something similar? Or have been there recently and had anything they liked? I was coming to saskatoon specifically for this soup tomorrow and i’m devastated lol

News 📰 USask researchers show value of Saskatoon’s safe consumption site

University of Saskatchewan (USask) researchers used well-established methods to calculate the social return on investment (SROI) of Saskatoon’s recently closed safe consumption site and have found that the location provided more than a 300 per cent return on investment for the community.

“We used a very conservative estimate to make sure we weren’t over claiming and found that for every $1.00 that was invested into the safe consumption site, you got a return of $4.44,” said Dr. Linzi Williamson (PhD), assistant professor of psychology and health studies in USask’s College of Arts and Science.

Question ❔ Advertising in riversdale

Does anybody know who is in charge of those old school advertising stands? I’m talking about the big poster holders they have on 20th St ..I think they have them downtown as well.

Specifically, the one in front of where Cohen’s used to be on the corner of 20th St. and Idylwyld.

There is a really sweet poster in the one next to Cohen’s and I’m looking to see if anyone knows who would be in charge of it because I want to buy the poster!

Please let me know if anyone knows!

Crown seeks 18-month community sentence for Duff Friesen, defence asking for 6 to 9 months

Crown prosecutor Sheryl Fillo is asking a judge to give Duff Arthur Friesen an 18-month sentence, to be served in the community, for assaulting three former students with a wooden paddle at a private Christian school in Saskatoon.

Friesen's defence lawyer Daniel Mol is arguing for a six- to nine-month community sentence.

Friesen, 69, was the principal of Christian Centre Academy, a private Christian school in Saskatoon. A jury convicted him of three counts of assault with a weapon and acquitted him on two others.
