Health/স্বাস্থ্য 9 Bangladeshi medical tourists killed along a children in Kolkata.

  • The fire broke out at around 2:50 a.m. local time on the second floor of the hotel building and was brought under control within an hour, a senior police officer told Reuters.
  • Around 30 people were evacuated safely in the incident, which may have been triggered by electrical short circuiting, the officer said.
  • The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, he added.
  • Local media reported injuries, with at least six wounded undergoing hospital ‌treatment.
  • News agency ANI, in which Reuters has a minority stake, reported citing the fire department, that among the dead were Bangladeshi citizens who were in Kolkata to seek medical treatment.
  • NDTV reported all nine dead were Bangladeshis.
  • The senior police official Reuters spoke to, however, said the nationalities of those killed were yet to be ascertained.
  • The hotel is located in a congested area in central Kolkata and is known for budget accommodations and restaurants.

Source - reuters.

While I don't trust NDTV flagging them as Bangladeshis but regardless, feels very conspired kill than an accident. 30 people were able to evacuated but 9 weren't? I strongly sus it.

Point of posting is, we should stop relying on Indian medical treatments and is high time now to ask government to facilitate all sort of treatment here in Bangladesh instead of referring them to go anywhere else(India, china, singapore).

More than 80% of Indian medical tourists are from Bangladesh, Nepal and bhutan. Bangladesh contribute more than 50% of it and loses more than 5B dollars from it's reserve annually. This nonsense must be stopped and make citizen life less hassled while boosting economy.

Edit 1 - Defending whether it is an accident or intentional killing will not change the fact that we are sending citizens to an hostile environment, making their life more terrible. Need to focus to solve the pain point of medical facilities. We are not the poorest country or among the poorest to be not able to give similar treatment what India, china, singapore provides except some rare disease/operations.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য This should not be happening in 2026

I don’t understand how more than 100 children can die from measles in 2026.

This is not some unknown disease. Vaccines exist. Basic awareness should exist too.

So what is going wrong?

At some point, this stops feeling like bad luck to me. It starts to feel like something is clearly not working.

I don’t know how people can just see this and move on.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Is it normal to sweat profusely in Bangladesh ?

Visited Bangladesh couple of weeks ago, and I just sweat a lot while everyone else don’t. I am used to a generally cool environment, is it because of that ? Should I get myself checked ?

Health/স্বাস্থ্য I am scared about Post partum depression than giving birth.

Recently I saw a post abt how a women killed her 18 weeks simply coz she didn't get sleep. The obvious reason was Post partum depression. Yet people in the comment section was ripping that lady asking she deserve death. Heck one day lack of sleep makes me cranky but this is days. Does man understand how much support we need in those times. Edit: I love my baby that I am carrying. I am just terrified of post partum psychosis. Right now, I am in good mental state and lovingly experiencing the care and love my husband provides.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Please stop using cotton buds (Q-tips) in your ears — I learned this the hard way

Post image
102 Upvotes

I want to share something that doctors have been saying forever, but many of us (including me) still ignore: cotton buds should NOT be used to clean your ears.

Medically, cotton buds are strongly discouraged because instead of removing earwax, they usually push it deeper into the ear canal, closer to the eardrum. This can cause:

Impacted earwax,Ear infections,Pain and hearing loss and Damage or even perforation of the eardrum

ENT doctors literally have a saying: “Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.”

My personal experience -

I used cotton buds regularly, thinking I was keeping my ears clean. One day, while cleaning my ear, the cotton tip came off the stick and got stuck deep inside my ear. I couldn’t get it out myself, and it was terrifying — my hearing felt blocked and I was afraid of damaging my ear.

I had to go to a doctor, who removed it using medical instruments. The doctor explained that this is actually a very common problem, and they see patients like this all the time — cotton tips, impacted wax, even bleeding ears — all from cotton bud use.

I was lucky it didn’t damage my eardrum.

What doctors recommend instead

Let your ears clean themselves (they’re designed to do that)

Clean only the outer ear with a towel

Never insert cotton buds, hairpins, tissues, or any objects into your ear canal

Cotton buds are cheap, common, and feel harmless — but they can cause real medical problems.

If this post stops even one person from putting a cotton bud in their ear, it’s worth it.

Stay safe and protect your hearing.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Gynecologist visit in Bangladesh

So I went to a gynecologist in Uttara and she's the head of the department also.so she's an old lady.I just went there to get prescribed birth control pills that have hormonal pills but I was so confused which one to take or how to take .but I want to take them regularly to maintain my cycle since I've got heavy bleeding but I've seen on the internet that birth controls help to shorten your period cycles and help with cramps since my cramps are very bad I thought it's better to take prescribed contraceptives that have hormonal and also birth control pills(combination).but that doctor literally said to get married and basically she was demonizing me for asking these pills instead of giving what I want she kept saying get married like ,why's that your first issue /question instead of the wellbeing of the patient.she instead gave me some temporary relief pills that actually harms the Kidney and stomach if you take them long .so basically I got humiliated instead of getting a solution.সে বারবার নিজের ফালতু মতামত দিচ্ছিল মানে ,আমি তো ওইখানে ওয়াজ মাহফিল শোনার জন্য যায়নাই আমি গেছি আমার সমস্যার সমাধান করতে।truly gynecologist is scary in Bd.Please anyone suggest good gynecologists that are not hyper Religious and give outdated opinions . they themselves suffered in their youth and now these useless imbeciles want us to suffer too . instead of being appreciative that a patient is willing to take the consequences of their reproductive health but no hyper religious bulls*it really overshadows the wellbeing of a human being.as if the only way to have s*x is to get married is such a cheap thing to say because marriage is such a serious commitment.these folks disgust me.and seriously why do religious people are soo arrogant isn't that a sin also?

Health/স্বাস্থ্য To whoever needs to hear this:

Take it from someone who is battling loneliness himself.

You are more capable than you think. You are stronger than you let on.

I know things can be difficult. Some days feel like a complete drag. And sometimes, even when you're surrounded by people, you can still feel this strange emptiness inside that you don't know how to fill.

I just want to remind you of something.

Close your eyes for a moment. Relax your shoulders. Take a deep breath, and slowly exhale through your mouth. Do it again.

Let some of that heaviness go.

You are not a failure. You are not unworthy of love.

You are a wonderful and remarkable soul who is capable of both giving and receiving love.

You are beautiful. You are precious. You matter.

And if nobody has told you that lately, I'm telling you now.

Take things one day at a time. And on the really difficult days, take them one breath at a time.

You don't have to have everything figured out right now.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Suggest me a good dermatologist

Been suffering from acne since I was 10 and now I am 21. Went to some dermatologists but all are money grabbers and don't even bother to tell what's wrong with my face or what type my skin is etc.

Suggest me a dermatologist in Dhaka who has worked wonders for you and won't break the bank. Will really appreciate it l.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Suffering through night blindness

I'm recently going through something and it feels so weird. After around 11PM, I suddenly start losing focus from device screens when they're close like I just can't get my eyes to focus on words properly and stuff.

It has been going on for the past couple days and honestly it's so annoying.. I can't text anyone properly, play games or even work. And I've noticed that it only happens to screens and not any other physical real life object.

I don't think it's the "রাতকানা" we usually hear about since I think that dims the overall light of your eye at night and not just focus from screens and stuff..

Health/স্বাস্থ্য My Palms Sweat a Lot

I have a condition called hyperhidrosis, which means the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet sweat excessively. I also tend to sweat more than the average person in general. For example, whenever I go to the washroom, I often come out drenched in sweat.

One of the most annoying parts is wearing shoes or even regular sandals. My feet sweat so much that I lose grip inside my footwear, and it becomes a real mess when walking on dusty roads. I usually wear shoes and change my socks every day, but it’s still very uncomfortable, especially during summer.

I have been dealing with this since childhood. My exam papers would get wet from my sweaty hands. Recently, I came across something called an iontophoresis machine that can be bought online. From what I understand, you soak your hands or feet in water while the device sends a mild electrical current through it for about 10–15 minutes. I was wondering if anyone here has used one and gotten good results.

I’m also not sure where to buy one from a reliable source. They seem to cost around 10–15k BDT, which would be a significant purchase for me since I’d be buying it with my own savings.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য New born Child living on the streets of Jamalkhan, Chittagong with Mother. Want to help, where should I reach out?

Which organizations rescue newborns or babies who are a few months old along with their mothers? There is a woman with a newborn baby living on the streets of the Jamalkhan area. The woman looks pretty sick, and I'm afraid something might happen to the baby.

Is there any way we can rescue them? I'd be happy to provide for their accommodation. Just a safe place where their basic needs will be taken care of.

Sorry, I literally have no idea where to reach out or what to do in these types of situations, but I want to help. If anyone can guide me on where I should reach out for this type of situation, I would be truly grateful.

Thank you.

P.S. Already posted in r/Chittagong. Posting here as well for better reach.

Health/স্বাস্থ্য How much does braces cost in dhaka

My teeth aren't too misaligned, but I have an overbite. Whats the cost at a decent clinic, and can you recommend any reliable orthodontists or clinic? Also, how does the payment system work. Like advance payment, instalments, and monthly costs?

I'd love to hear your recommendations and personal experiences.
