Todd Phillips Go Fund Me

Todd Phillips, one of the most important bluegrass bass players of our generation, has a go fund me set up. He has a degenerative disease in his shoulder and can't work/play at this point. Please consider helping him out!

New Rule: No hate speech, religion, or politics

After a ton of inappropriate and childish comments today, we have added a new rule as noted in the post title. Honestly, it's LONG overdue. This sub is about bluegrass and our love of music. Do you want to argue politics? There are plenty of subs for that.

If the comments are kept civil and polite and related to bluegrass that will be fine:

"I don't like Ricky Skaggs because he preaches from stage"

But not:

"You're an @@#$$%$ for believing in X" or "F*ck you".

Not hard, right?

Bronwyn and her new band are picking up where Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway left off

For those of us who sorely miss the Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway era, I think Bronwyn and her band are bringing that same energy back! I always loved her vibe on stage with Molly but now she’s shining brighter than ever with her own band. I just got to see her set for the first time at Hangtime Festival last weekend and they were on fire!

They played mostly songs from her new album and it was amazing, her fiddling is always great but I have new appreciation for her vocal talents and her band can JAM!!! Her new band members are all incredible in their own right, Grant Dresnok on guitar, Frank Evans on banjo, Tristan Scroggins on mandolin and I didn’t catch the bass player’s name, but all stellar performers.

Highly recommend catching her show when you can, I think she's going to be the next big thing!

Wanted to share some of my favorite Bluegrass artists, who also happen to be from Michigan! Love everything Billy has done for not only the Bluegrass community, but also for some killer artists close to his hometown, especially after his festival in Ionia, MI… You can also make the argument that Greensky put Billy on the map by having Billy open for them back in the day, but you get the picture!!!

Billy > Greensky > Holly Bowling > Full Cord

Hey guys (am english) grew up a metal/emo kid, been into bluegrass country for a few years now (inspo is like tony rice, doc watson, bill strings) just wanted playing opinions on first picking track I made, am aware doesn't follow the standard chord progress always end up making everything sound emo some how. Completely self taught and same for my country/bluegrass journey, appreciate any advice/critique, ty gang

Oh My LORD - The Hickory Ridge Boys

Oh My Lord – The Hickory Ridge Boys

Straight from the fictional backroads of America's Deep South comes “Oh My Lord”, a foot-stomping, banjo-picking bluegrass tale of bad luck, false accusations and Southern justice.

Set in Alabama, the song follows an unfortunate traveller who finds himself accused of a crime he swears he never committed. With a lying witness, an unforgiving judge and the law firmly against him, all he can do is plead his innocence and ask the Good Lord for a little help.

Packed with infectious bluegrass rhythms, traditional Southern storytelling and a generous helping of dark humour, Oh My Lord captures the spirit of old-time American country music.

If you enjoyed the Coen Brothers' film O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the unforgettable music of the Soggy Bottom Boys, there's a good chance you'll love the Hickory Ridge Boys.

Pull up a chair, tap your boots and enjoy a little musical mischief from the American South.

The Hickory Ridge Boys — a fictional band from a little town that may or may not exist.
