Peel Regional Police Helicopter Megathread

If you're wondering why a police helicopter is flying over Brampton: Peel Regional Police now operates its own Air Support Unit, using an Airbus H125 (A-Star) helicopter.

Since the helicopter began operating, we've had a large number of posts asking why it's circling, where it's going, what it's doing, or whether something is happening nearby.

To avoid having multiple nearly identical posts every time it takes off, please use this megathread for general helicopter sightings, questions, tracking, photos, noise discussion, and other routine discussion about the helicopter.

What is the helicopter used for?

According to Peel Regional Police, the Air Support Unit can be used for:

  • Locating and tracking suspects or stolen vehicles
  • Searching for missing or vulnerable people
  • Supporting officers during major incidents and emergencies
  • Responding to serious collisions and road-safety operations
  • Proactive patrols and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Monitoring traffic and large events
  • Supporting investigations and specialized police units
  • Providing officers on the ground with real-time aerial information

The helicopter is equipped with thermal imaging, day/night cameras, live video transmission, a searchlight, mapping equipment, and a public-address system.

Seeing the helicopter does not necessarily mean there is a major incident happening nearby. PRP also uses it for patrols and other routine policing operations.

Can I still make a separate post?

Yes, when there is actually something significant to post about.

A separate post is fine if:

  • The helicopter is involved in a major or developing incident
  • There is an official police announcement or credible news report
  • You have substantial new information about an incident
  • The helicopter itself is the subject of significant news

A standalone post simply asking "Why is the helicopter circling?", "Anyone else hear the helicopter?", or posting a routine sighting will generally be redirected here.

A couple of reminders

Please don't present guesses about what the helicopter is doing as confirmed information. If you know why it has been deployed, include a reliable source when possible.

Do not post private addresses or attempt to identify people being observed or pursued.

If you are witnessing an emergency or crime in progress, contact 911 rather than relying on Reddit.

For non-emergency police matters, Peel Regional Police can be reached at 905-453-3311.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread for sightings, questions, discussion, photos, flight tracking, and anything else relating to Peel's new helicopter.

Discussion Today is election day. The government closest to your life is on the ballot. Polls close at 8pm - go vote!

Most of us follow provincial and federal politics more closely. The leaders are more prominent, the stages are bigger, and the headlines are louder. That makes sense - until you think about what actually shapes your day.

The roads you drive on. The parks your kids play in. The community programs, the libraries, the snow cleared in winter, the police and fire services in your neighbourhood. The schools your kids attend. So much of it is decided here, by your mayor and city council, and so much of it is paid for by your property taxes.

That is why good governance matters more at this level than anywhere else. Good government is not complicated: decisions made in the open, money spent where residents can see it, and true value for every tax dollar. Transparency is how you know you are actually getting what you pay for.

Here is the part worth sitting with. Your day-to-day life is affected far more by the municipal leaders who run the city you live in than by anyone in Ottawa or at Queen's Park. Not by a little - by a higher order of magnitude. The pothole, the bus, the park, the tax bill: all of it is local.

So today is not a small election. It is your say in how your tax dollars get used, and your chance to vote for leaders who actually align with your interests.

Make sure you vote today. Polls close at 8 p.m. - find your ward location at brampton.ca/voters.

Crime Brown has no respect for Brampton bylaws

I just drove half way across the city and counted maybe 40 Patrick Brown signs on city property.

One intersection on Williams with maybe 5 large signs on a single corner, outside of the sound wall.

This is blatant disregard for the rules he's supposed to represent. If he cannot follow existing bylaws even, how can you continue to trust him to represent this city. He has no integrity. Photo-bomb Brown must go.

Anyone who comes on to say it's volunteers, I will not hear it. They are trained, and if they are not, that is still his fault. Every sing violation is his direct responsibility.

He is not the only one, there are a few other offenders, I see a lot of Taran signs as well, but his are by far the most numerous and visible.

CALL 311. Or use the app if you aren't driving. File a bylaw complaint for junk signs, get a case number. Every sign that is recorded by bylaw enforcement will get counted against them.

And show up to council when they vote to waive the fees to avoid being held accountable. Accountability is the only answer, regardless of who wins or loses.

Crime 1 intersection, 34 double sided campaign signs

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

Edit: sorry, it is 34 signs total, installed in 17 pairs.

Williams Parkway and Rutherford Rd North.

There are legitimately 17 double sided zip tied campaign signs at just this one intersection.

There are literally 34 signs just here!

And they are all for a single candidate. 3 guesses who.

There is also a single snow removal sign, unrelated.

There are a lot of bad signs out today but this is a systematic pattern of abuse across the whole city that is an entire order of magnitude beyond everyone else combined.

Every major road, especially off highway interchanges near residential areas.

You have got to be kidding me.

City Hall Brampton voters: here’s my full ballot for today (Oct 26) after a couple months of talking to candidates and voters

Voting day is here. Over the campaign I’ve talked with a lot of the candidates and met plenty of potential voters at the door and around the city. Here’s how I’d vote, ward by ward.

If you’re still undecided or just want to see what someone who’s been out there is thinking, this might help.

Full disclosure: I’m running for Regional Councillor in Wards 9 & 10, and my wife Karen Dancy is running for Catholic school trustee (Wards 7-10). I’ve listed us below because we’re on my ballot, but weigh that however you choose. My picks for every other race are based on those conversations.

Mayor: Wesley Jackson

Wards 1 & 5

  • City: Tracy Pepe
  • Regional: Steven Lee
  • Public school trustee: David Green
  • Catholic trustee (Wards 1, 3, 4): Amanda Baez

Wards 2 & 6

  • City: Navjit Kaur Brar
  • Regional: Julie Luckasavitch
  • Public school trustee: still undecided
  • Catholic trustee (Wards 2, 5, 6): Dominique Darmanin-Sturgeon

Wards 3 & 4

  • City: Jugraj Singh Khinda
  • Regional: Manmeet Singh Choudhary
  • Public school trustee: still undecided
  • Catholic trustee (Wards 1, 3, 4): Amanda Baez

Wards 7 & 8

  • City: Ayanna Kahlon
  • Regional: Cynthia Sri Pragash
  • Public school trustee: Michael Gyovai
  • Catholic trustee (Wards 7-10): Karen Dancy

Wards 9 & 10

  • City: Janice Gordon-Daniels
  • Regional: Michael Dancy (if not me, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon)
  • Public school trustee: Daljit Singh
  • Catholic trustee (Wards 7-10): Karen Dancy

A few notes on how I decided. Candidates who made time to sit down and talk, even for 20 minutes, counted for a lot with me. In a couple of races, candidates declined or cancelled interview requests, and I figure if it’s difficult to fit a short conversation during a campaign, it may be hard once they’re in office. That’s just my experience, so make up your own mind.

Candidate names are per the City of Brampton’s certified list. Please check your own ward and school board before you vote, since the trustee boundaries are confusing. And whoever you pick, just get out and vote.

Happening Now IT'S ELECTION DAY

Polls open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

Residents have a choice to make . . . do you want "more of the same" from City Hall? Or, do you want something different/better from your elected officials?

In most races across the City there is no longer the excuse of "better the devil you know" as a large number of very credible opponents have made the decision that "enough's enough".

My choice has been clear since the campaign started, and remains the same despite some last minute smear tactics and fear mongering from the incumbent.

But it is YOUR choice. Make the best one you can.

Question Area around Old Shoe Factory Brampton - Market St/Church St intersection

I was thinking of enrolling in the Aura House Brampton yoga/pilates classes and would be able to join the classes after 5pm.
As a young girl, just wanted to check whether the area around is safe if I have to walk for a few minutes to and from the transit stop (Main/ Alexander St) at night around 7pm since I’ll be relying on the public transit…

Question How do political campaigns track where their signs are?

I've never worked for a political campaign before but would love to hear from someone who has.

I assume it is different for each campaign but how do they keep track of where all the signs are placed so they can pick them all up after the election?

Question This is a long shot, but is anyone here available to make a knitted hat before Halloween?

I ordered a knitted hat on Etsy, but it is way too small for my head. I would love to reach out to someone local if possible, but I know that this short of a time frame is a really big ask. I don't know exactly how much it would cost for materials+labour but please include that in your message.

I would like this style, but actually large enough for my massive balloon-like head. Please message me if possible. Thank you🙏

Sorry this very last moment, i had planned to do this research but, life…
Do you know which, candidates for Mayor and councilors are against AI data centers, surveillance pricing, AI , and surveillance in general???

As anyone heard any candidates promise no data centers?

I know candidates in Mississauga that openly oppose AI.

News Peel Regional Police Association- Don't Ever Do This Again.

Post image
54 Upvotes

Today I received an "Important Public Safety Message" informing me of the candidates who are actively running on campaigns that seek to defund the police. Peel Regional Police Association, is this how you want to use my tax dollars?

I will actively gladly support those candidates simply because of this poor stunt.

EDIT: There seems to be confusion as to my assertion that these are our tax dollars. We as the municipalities pay the salaries of those uniformed and civilian members who then receive their union fee deductions. If it's not our money going towards this little campaign I would invite you to share whose money you think it is in the comments - and I will gladly edit the post.

EDIT 2: To clarify the "ownership" conversation.

Tax dollars have already been relinquished to the municipalities - the transaction is made. Was it my money? Sure, is it any longer? No.

Is there a reasonable expectation that the money I relinquished and transferred to the municipality is used to the overall benefit of the city? Yes.

Is it wrong to question the potential implications and conflicts of interest that can be perceived through the potential use of tax collected dollars then being transferred to the individual (uniformed and civilian members) who then are deducted union fees to then be used on political advocacy - and stand to gain from further increased budgets? I'm of the opinion it's a rational question of the Region's budget.

Could the wording be better in the original post? Sure.

Have you recently gotten into the tv show the Traitors? Are you a huge fan of the social game of Survivor? Do you like board games where you can LARP as a drunk or village idiot? Well if you are, we highly encourage you to come out and experience the highly deceptive and secretive game know as Blood on the Clocktower ("BoTC")!

In BoTC, you are placed in a village with a bunch of strangers who are either friend or foe. Your goal and the groups goal is locate and eliminate the demon and their minions hidden amongst you before they kill the innocent villagers. Or maybe not, maybe you yourself are the demon 😈.

Our excellent storyteller and game master will help guide all new players to the game and make sure that you have a great time. We've run this event several times and the amount of fun and hilarious twists we've experienced make it a cult classic with the group.

(Honestly, personally speaking this is probably one of the best games to play to celebrate Halloween too!!)

The entry fee is $20. This fee helps to cover the cost of the private space we've rented, and includes food for you. Please shoot us a DM if you want to sign up, spots are limited (we only have 9 left as our members gobbled up the rest of the seats!).

And if you want to join our amazing group please shoot us a DM for the discord invite. We run a bunch of side events and activities including TTRPG sessions, Escape Rooms, Food Adventures, Hikes and runs!!
