Fave low key restaurants

Compiling a list of my fave go-tos that are low key and moderately priced. Would love input!

A few places I love (not necessarily in bk): Casa Adela, Cafe Himalaya, Yemen Cafe, Super Pollo, Mao Mao.

These places are all unpretentious, the food is bomb, and the prices are right. I don’t want trendy, I like a hole in the wall type of vibe.

What other places fit this criteria? Preferably north of prospect park.

SEEKING PEOPLE IN TRADITIONAL TRADES / DAILY WORK ROUTINES

SEEKING PEOPLE WITH ROUTINES, TRADES & OUTSIDE INTERESTS — DOCUMENTARY SHORT

Hi! I’m based in New York and developing a video project

I’m interested in meeting people whose work involves a uniform, a regular routine, repeated tasks, or a traditional trade. You might work in a factory, warehouse, workshop, restaurant, or building—or you might be a tailor, mechanic, baker, cobbler, repairperson, or do something else entirely.

I’d love to learn about your working day and what you enjoy outside of it. Maybe you garden, make things, listen to music, fish, cook, visit the same place every week, or have a small daily ritual you look forward to.

Your hobby or routine doesn’t need to be unusual or something you do professionally. I’m interested in the small, familiar parts of everyday life and what makes them meaningful to you.

The idea is to create a personal portrait of someone’s work, routines, and life outside the job.

For now, I’m simply hoping to have an introductory conversation, with no commitment to filming. No acting or on-camera experience is needed.

If you’re based in NYC or nearby New Jersey and interested in talking, please reply with:

  • A little about your work
  • Something you enjoy doing outside of work
  • Your town or neighborhood

you can either respond here or email- [12345submission@gmail.com](mailto:12345submission@gmail.com)

Thank you!

Groups for sexual assult survivors??

Hey so im new to the area and looking for a support group for women who have been sexually assaulted.

So far ALL of the organizations I've called or contacted online are either no longer running, at capacity, or it's like $100 per session.

I do have insurance but haven't found a group that will take it.

Wondering if anyone knows of anything in the area or anywhere in nyc. Doesn't have to be professionally led. Mostly looking to talk with a group of women who understand.

bars/clubs for halloween?

looking for places to go out for halloween. 2 guys 2 girls in our 20s coming to the city for halloween (3 of us from elsewhere in NY, 1 girl from out of state). we’re staring with a pregame/party in brooklyn, and want to go to bars/clubs where we’d be able to dance a bit (but not to electric music…) so hip-hop, and latin music vibes are best, but would be down for some pop and rock too. we don’t necessarily have to go out in brooklyn, but we’re starting there, and just need to eventually get to penn station when we go home (so we’ll be ubering/taking trains to get around)

would also be great if you could let me know what to expect for cover pay (or if we’d need to buy tickets in advance). any info about expected wait time / when is best to go would also be appreciated. thanks!

Cupping alert today in Sunset Park, Brooklyn 👇

We’re cupping three washed micro-lots from Finca Marinita (including a Gesha) at Soul Cafe Coffee Roasters [LAB & Wholesale] on Oct 26 @ 12 PM.

This will be the US debut for coffees coming out of Nuevo Oriente, so it’s going to be a fun table.

It’s free and would be great if you could share with your community of roasters.

Grab a spot here if you’re around:

Non touristy places to visit

Hi! I am going to NYC next week - i've been many times before but haven't explored much of brooklyn apart from Dumbo & a bit of Williamsburg. What are the nicest neighborhoods to explore? Ideally looking for charming streets and some nice independent shops - not touristy destinations. If anyone has itinerary suggestions for a full day from manhattan - or just a hitlist of areas - would be greatly appreciated.

They ran, and we found them a few streets away. DOT tell us the traffic on this street isn't fast enough to justify a speed hump 😞 I respectfully disagree.

Bike storage options in Kensington

Hi! I’m looking for some advice on bike storage. My building doesn’t have bike storage, and keeping the bike in my apartment isn’t ideal given the limited space. Does anyone know of any nearby garages that offer bike parking?

Thanks in advance!

Landlord trying to replace our front desk staff with a "virtual doorman." Anyone else dealing with this?

Edit: Do you have a virtual doorman and dislike the experience? Please share details if you're comfortable, it could be helpful for my case! Have you dealt with this issue? Would love to hear how it turned out! Are you going through this currently? Let me know so we can help each other!

---

I live in a rent-regulated building in Brooklyn, and our owner has applied wirh DHCR to replace our 24/7 front desk staff with a remote virtual monitoring system. I know this landlord is trying it at another one of their buildings too.

While this could seem like a silly thing to complain about at face value, this is really an issue of safety, accessibility, and an issue of landlords simply trying to fuck over tenants by bait and switching things.

A remote operator can't help an older neighbor through a dark stairwell, carry a stroller in during a blackout, or let the fire department in (things that have all happened in our building). Real people lose good jobs, and tenants keep paying the same rent for less.

I saw the NYT article on this and it prompted me to post here. Is this happening in your building? If you fought it, what worked? Any tenant orgs, lawyers, or electeds who were helpful? I've gotten my hands on some resources but would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through it.

Trick or Treating - Prospect Heights vs Park Slope

CORRECTION: Clinton Hill vs Park Slope

I'm visiting NYC with my family this Halloween (my husband is running the NYC Marathon the next day!) and we'd like to take our kids trick-or-treating in Brooklyn (they are 4 and 7). The areas that have been recommended are Prospect Heights (St. James Place specifically) and Park Slope (between 3rd-11th street between 5th Ave and Prospect Park W). Hoping to go somewhere with a really fun, family-friendly vibe and visit iconic brownstones with great decorations! My little ones don't have a ton of stamina, so we'd likely be doing 1-2 streets.

  1. Which area would you recommend and why?
  2. Are there any spots close by that you'd recommend for dinner? I've heard of Belli Osteria in Prospect Heights or Piccoli Trattoria/Pasta Louise in Park Slope.
  3. What time do most people start/end trick or treating?

Thank you in advance!

Are campaign posters allowed on city lands?

This guy posted his face up and down Ocean Parkway in Midwood.
As far as I’m aware it’s illegal to post political fliers and banners on city owned property. Am I right and if so, what can be done about it?
