Discussion Dragon Age Games Opinions & Reviews Megathread

Hey everyone,

Lately, we've been seeing more and more threads looking to discuss the quality of Dragon Age games. Since these posts tend to be extremely repetitive, we've decided to redirect any new threads aiming to discuss the games' overall quality to this megathread, for the time being.

To be clear, you will still be able to discuss characters, themes, story, lore reveals, and other specific aspects in separate threads. However, if you're looking to share your opinion on any one of the games, ask for other people's opinions of them, or simply post your own reviews, please do so here.

The usual rules still apply, so please remember to keep discussions civil - even when in disagreement with other users. Thank you!

Discussion I don't like Veilguard companion romances Spoiler

I'm replying Veilguard and Taash and Harding just got together and I remember why I didn't like it. Why... are we awkwardly standing there and listening to taash say Harding smells nice. Emmrich and Strife come out of the blue and I can't say much on neve and lucanis since I romanced him

I really liked Bull and Dorian though. I liked their banter and how, once together, you can ask them about getting together. Maybe because we don't awkwardly watch them admit feelings. I will admit that their romance isn't perfect. When I replayed Inquisition and got their banter was very explicit and probably should've been left for them to talk it out privately but then we wouldn't have actually known they got together.

Dagna and Sera are cute... in theory. I don't think she had any banter of her talking about Dagna? Correct me if I'm wrong. It might've been nice to get a cutscene with Sera asking the Inky(if friends) on what to get her, maybe?

And Blackwalls crush on Josie was cute as well. Too bad it could never go further 😔

But then Veilguard gave us companion romances and they were just... meh. I heard that, especially for Lucanis, it sours his romance. Since he's constantly flirting with Neve and Rook just feels like a nuisance. Please correct me if I'm wrong since I never took them out together ☠️

Emmrich and Strife, similar to Dagna and Sera, are cute in theory. But it comes out of NOWHERE. It would've been nice if... say you bring Emmrich to the Veiljumpers then maybe Emmrich and Strife have a conversation like as you're passing by him or something and can stop to listen. Or if you go without him Strife can ask about Emmrich.

Add banter of Emmrich talking about Strife to the companions or even have him talk about him to Rook occasionally. So, the romance isn't so random. I looked at his banter, and he only talks about Strife once they get together.

Lastly, Lace and Taash. I just... don't like them together. Taash can't be older then 23 to me they seem around 20 and Lace is in her thirties, but the game makes her(to me) act so young. Probably to make the romance less weird?

They don't seem to worry about age-gaps, considering Rook can romance Emmrich and they force you to play a young character. Thus, Rook is much younger than him. Harding literally tells him "you're so much older"

AND YOU'RE LIKE A DECADE OLDER THAN TAASH.

like, okay... maybe lace/taash's age-gap isn't as bad as emmrich/rook but it's STILL an age gap 😭

The writers can try and make her seem younger, but considering veilguard takes place ten years after tresspasser, and you meet her in inquisition(Harding seems 20-24 to me in the game) then she's between 30-34. She's still an older woman.

Anyways, I'm done the rant. I don't like the companion romances in Veilguard. Thank you for reading my complaints.

Fanworks It was always you, Kadan

Both our worlds were falling apart,

My reality against your fiction,

I was young,

Alone, afraid, insecure,

And there you were,

In contrast to all that I was,

Tall, strong, confident,

How was I not to fall for you then?

When you held my heart like the most brittle of glass,

And forged it into something stronger,

With laughter as your hammer,

And kindness as your heat.

Together then,

We learned what we could not learn apart,

That our bodies were ours and ours alone,

That I was a boy worthy of love,

And you were a man more than a weapon.

Ever charging at my side,

We saved your world,

And you saved mine.

Many seasons have passed since,

No longer a boy myself,

But a man I think you'd be proud of,

And although the memories become more distant,

My feelings have not.

Tear-laced letters typed across a screen,

Come as close to describing how thankful I am,

As the clouds come close to the stars,

But still,

I'll say thank you,

For creating warmth where none existed,

And for giving life to a boy who thought he was already dead,

It was always you, Kadan

Fanworks Dragon Age Keep 2 - Mass Effect Archives 2

Little update: one of the last pages has been implemented (worldstates). With data coming from local saves of DAO and DA2.
DAI will be the last high trouble but will get rid of it.
Also bonus: Veilguard is ready too.

New action: free mode and restricted mode. Free mode allows you to do whatever the choices you want to do in the tapestry. Print the story that you want.
Restricted mode is our actual known mode of the Keep: limitations due to the choices from the game (this mode will be needed for the export to DAI).

Discussion Dragon Age Inquisition NPC Dialogue Hits Different

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In light of the recent Bioware closure… I want to celebrate Dragon Age Inquisition.

This time, I want to highlight how the regular NPCs in Inquisition have quite varied and flavorful characterization, Threnn is a Loghain Supporter, Seggrit is racist towards elf and a money grubbing prick (you can let him die in a house fire), and Harritt hates mages that when the mages given refuge in Redcliffe, he quits town and goes to Haven.

It’s like not everyone in this world is Mother Giselle, which makes it more real that most people have their own bias and opinion, some are asshole, some are good and it’s not just black and white.

Discussion [Spoilers All] Why did the Old Gods go silent? Spoiler

I’m trying to wrap my head around this thing regarding the Magisters Sidereal and the Old Gods/Evanuris based on the new lore we got in Veilguard.

Solas explains that the Old Gods were high dragon familiars acting as anchors/conduits for the trapped Evanuris. The Evanuris used these sleeping dragons to whisper to the Tevinter Magisters, tricking them into breaching the Veil to free them. So, thats fine and understandable

But Corypheus explicitly says that the moment they entered the Golden/Black City, Dumat and the rest of the Old Gods went completely silent. If the darkspawn have to physically tunnel down and find a sleeping Old God to turn it into a Blighted Archdemon, that means all the Old Gods were still unblighted and sleeping normally right after the breach happened, right? Like they have to become blighted to become an archdemon.

So, if the Evanuris were still trapped in the Fade, and the dragon were still unblighted underground, why did the communication cut off instantly? Why couldn't/didn't the Evanuris keep talking to Tevinter to guide them, instead of leaving them completely abandoned? Surely, with their authority as the Old Gods, and with Elgar'nan and Co's want for authority and worship, they would feel the need to continue on? Why just go quiet? Could they no longer contact them? Why? Why could they before but not after?

Hell, they could have used the blight from within the Veil to rise their dragons as Archdemons, AND use Tevinter being their gods, to free themselves, no? Why also, as archdemons, did they just go on mindless rampages. For example, when Dumat rose, Dirthamen surely would have still had control of his dragon, as we know Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain in VG, so why did Dumat/Dirthamen and the remaining Evanuris just go on a mindless killing spree. The 1st blight was arouns 200 years. For what? Why didn't the Evanuris just say "hey, attempt 1 failed, let's continue to use Tevinter and the Imperium's strength to keep trying, now being able to control our dragons and lead darkspawn armies"?

Again, they are power hungry, and love the attention and worship. Especially Lusacan/Elgar'nan. So why didn't they keep communicating, and become content with just doing.... something? As archdemons?

Perhaps this is explained and I've missed it somehow! Lmk!

I am wording this very poorly, so apologies. Its like 3am where I am lol.

Tldr; why did the Evanuris instantly go silent the moment the Magisters breached the Black City? Why didn't they keep talking to Tevinter to work up a backup plan, instead of letting their dragons become seemingly mindless Archdemons that just went on random rampages with no actual plan?

Discussion Playstation Platinums

So after a long time I have finally finished the platinum on DA2 as well, DATV started it, had such a blast with it that made me revisit older DAs and collect them and platinum them, so I did. First was DAI then DAO and now DA2, yes will go after the DLCs as well, sadly for the DA2 I cannot buy the DLCs from the PS store since they're not there for my region (SK) but I have a small account (UK) that has them for the "Friendly" price of 23£ 🤣. This platinum I want to use as a thank you letter for bioware for the endless fun I had, the memories and the amazing journey

Discussion My thoughts on the Bioware situation

With the news that Bioware is closing down, I want to speak a little about my enjoyment for the Dragon Age series and all things related to it.

When the series released, I found great enjoyment in the world of Origins. Far far too many hours of my younger years were spent on loading screens of the character creation, trying to perfect my warden, mostly gravitating between the mage and noble origins for humans. I found myself drawn to the opening scenes of Ostagar, the events at Highever and the Circle of Magi more than almost any other part of the game. I found great pleasure in cultivating the relationship with Alistair, Leliana and Morrigan, being rather basic and sticking with my inital party for many a playthrough. In almost every playthrough, I would romance Leliana and still to this day will stan her romance as being the best part of that game, though I have grown a bit and do see the nuances of the other romances and options. Being able to create a world in which every choice I made had a consequence and a reaction was phenomenal and I still cannot get over how detailed the games were in that aspect. To draw back to your origin at so many points, to truly make your character feel apart of the world as a whole, it was something that to me was leagues beyond the gaming competition at the time.

Like many, I was a bit disappointed with DA2, and for years I never truly gave it a try. I've come to highly appreciate the shift that Bioware did with that game, and after learning how much of ED'S influence of turning a DLC into a full fledged game truly hampered that installments chance of success, I have an even greater appreciation for that game now. But for me, the series well and truly knocked it out of the park with Inquisition.

The sheer scale of the game, the size of the area zones, the amount of detail in each location, character, and everything left me amazed more than any other game at the time. Of course, given that I had not truly given 2 much of a solid chance, I was in dark a bit about some characters and events but even still I found amazing joy in the story and the game itself. The revelation of Solas' true nature at the end of Trespasser was the biggest shock to me and I was so hooked for whatever Bioware came up with as the finale for this saga.

Now, my criticism for Veilguard is a bit unique I feel. While I do readily agree that it is not on the same narrative level that previous titles were, but looking at the game itself, I do still believe that it was a good game. The combat system was a shift, one that to me fell more into a style of Devil May Cry or something similar, but was still enjoyable. Visually it was quite appealing too, though I could do with a little less purple and magenta coloration with the visuals lol. But as a game, it was fun and I can easily replay it, with enjoyment. I can make different choices and still have impactful decisions. They might not be on the same level as prior games, but it still had some Dragon Age style to it all the same.

My biggest hurt about Bioware's closure is that we truly will never see any continuation to anything of Dragon Age. I understand that news has been said that Mass Effect was the growing Flagship for Bioware and EA on that front, but being the medieval fantasy lover I am, I was far more invested into DA. I would have loved to have had more content. DLC. New games. Anything that could have given us more to see of the world of Thedas. I will not give up on the content we have for I am truly happy we have that content we do. But I really hope that some other developer will pick up the remnants that were left after Veilguard's launch, and help reshape it into something else for Thedas' future.

"In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In death, sacrifice...."

Support Dragon Age Keep

Greetings! Gonna make this short and quick: I'm a PS5-player and I am worried about losing the ability to play Inquisition with my custom saves via the Dragon Age Keep system. How can I make sure I can at least save my canon World State for future playthroughs? I guess I could always buy the game on PC. I hear it's a lot easier to circumvent this issue over there, and I will already need to play Origins and 2 on PC anyways for any full series playthroughs, but if there's a way I can save that money, I'd like to (plus I'm not sure my laptop will even run Inquisition). Internet: do your thing.

While I do think the “horned” Qunari design is pretty cool. The origins version, Sten exactly, is my favourite design. I also love Sten’s friendship with the warden if you max out his approval. I hate him and love him at the same time. I wish there was a dlc where you can accompany Sten back to his homeland together with maybe Zevran and the dog.

I’m looking for an Inquisition Let’s Play where the player either romances Sera or at least likes her enough to not leave her in the tavern the whole game. I know she’s annoying but she really grew on me.

Preferably something with commentary. Any recommendations?

Discussion Dragon Age Inquisition is still Beautiful 12 Years Later

Thumbnail
gallery
3.5k Upvotes

In light of the recent Bioware closure… I want to celebrate Dragon Age Inquisition.

Next, is how beautiful the game looks, mind you this game came out in 2014, almost 12 years has passed between now and then.

I also love how the first two region, Haven and Hinterlands are steeped with lore from previous games. On my first playthrough I just thought Haven as a chantry up in the mountains, Redcliffe just a village in hinterlands. After going back and played Origins, I now know Haven has a pretty dark history. And how pivotal Redcliffe is to the whole fight against the blight.

Captured on Xbox Series X (on PC it would look even better)
