Produce Plus: Free Produce

Hello,

I've been attending the Produce Plus events for a couple months now. Was unemployed up until about a month ago. I've found that friends of mine that have been receiving SNAP benefits for years did not know about Produce Plus. As someone who has medically necessary dietary restrictions, I'm forever grateful to the DHS worker who did my SNAP application and told me about this.

This is a free program put on by Food For Lane County that anyone can participate in. You do not need to be receiving or qualify for SNAP benefits to attend and take what you need. Anyone can show up. The only information they ask for is for you to scribble a 'signature' on a sign in sheet and to know how many people you're feeding with the food.

You can check the FFLC website, at the bottom of the list of food pantries, and it will show you all of the Produce Plus dates/times/locations. You basically just walk thru and take the produce that you want. Sometimes they will limit quantity on high demand items like watermelons or avocados depending on how many they have. Most of the produce is organic if that's your thing too.

There are 3 every week in my calendar:

Tuesday's at 3pm

At Kokwel Wellness Center (in the parking lot near Burger King and in front of Albertsons on River road).

Wednesday's at 10am

At the red barn behind Kalapuya and Prairie Mountain, on Patriot Way.

Thursday's at 1pm

At the ODHS Family Wellness Center on W11th.

I recommend arriving early to wait in line if you're able to, or at the very least no later than 15-30 minutes after the start time, as things can go quickly.

The one on Tuesdays is my favorite. Huge variety of produce. I cannot have gluten but they always have infinite loaves of bread and sometimes baked goods (an occasional loaf of gluten free bread for me).

The one on Wednesdays typically will have 1-2 dairy products. Smaller variety of produce but different stuff than what's typically at the one on Tue. Have not been able to make it to the one on Thur. at a reasonable time.

Things are tough for a lot of people right now and there are so many people unemployed and struggling. Produce Plus is the only reason I've eaten some weeks/months.

Stay safe and please share this info with those in your life that could use it!

Who is hiring? (Monthly jobs thread)

Welcome to the monthly jobs thread! If you're aware of any job openings, please share them here for eager job-seekers in the Eugene/Springfield area!

And if you're an employer looking to hire, feel free to share any openings you have.

The rules

  • All top-level comments MUST be a link or a description of a job opening or openings in the Eugene/Springfield area
  • Optionally, start your comment with a tag to indicate what type of offering it is. For example:"[Restaurant] Looking for a new cook!""[Tech] Now hiring new technical support reps!""[Manufacturing] Need production line workers!"

Good luck!

Hit and run on Coburg...I'm your witness.

If you were the driver who was struck by a car turning right onto Coburg Road near the Safeway, I have pictures of the vehicle that hit you, her face and license plate. I called it into 911 dispatch. Reach out if you need a statement.

Edit: My wording made it sound like a pedestrian was struck. It was 2 vehicles. Injuries are very unlikely.

Anyone else doing deliveries from Eugene to random places outside of town ever see something spooky?

Me and my girlfriend were on our way to do some kind of Doordash dropoff cuz it's high paying but wow I was spooked out and so was she. I don't think I'll ever do that again but I went along because yeah who would want to do that alone anyway when we saw the drop off location.

The collar has a phone number but the kitty is not letting me pet them for long enough to read it. I added a screen shot of Google maps where the cat is hanging out right now

I was a guinea pig and mailed in my ballot via snail mail. It was received and counted within 3 days of my mailing it. Just wanted to add a positive experience in the midst of the horrible political bullshit right now.

Table tennis club?

Where are my ping pongers ponging in town? There used to be a table at Highlands, but it's been a few years since I've been there. Would love a club or regular group to play with every week or two.

I'm a dad of 2 small kids working from home, I gotta get out of the house!

Ditched bike looking for owner

Bicycle ditched at my workplace, boss wanted it in the dumpster. Serial isn't listed on GEARS stolen bike list or on bike index. If you can tell me the serial I'll drop it off, otherwise it goes to Shift cycles tomorrow once they open tomorrow. Please repost, Reddit is about as much social media as I can handle.

ISO queer/queer-friendly motorcyclists to ride with and learn

22 year old trans dude here looking to make biker friends! Just started riding last week but it’ll be my main commute vehicle so I’ll be out all the time. A lot of the people I’ve talked to in the Eugene Motorcycle Club group on Facebook don’t give off very queer-friendly vibes based off their profiles, so hoping to find some friendly faces elsewhere. Feel free to PM me

Something to do Free parking near spaghetti factory?

I've been trying to find out if there's any free parking right by the spaghetti factory near the train station but haven't had much luck. Is there any place to park that's free, less than a 5 minute walk to the restaraunt, and preferably not street parking that anyone knows about?

How is/was it working at nephos?

Not trying to pick on nephos in any way. I've never had a bad experience, they're pricing and selection is great, staff has always been friendly. But why do I never see the same people working? I saw the same faces for the 5+ years I went to urban vapors (a few new faces throughout), real nice home town vibe. Since they've been gone, I've been going to nephos and haven't yet seen the same face twice. (Ref. Coburg)

Health insurance

My husband is looking for health insurance. I've always covered us through my work, but now that I'm retired and on medicare, he needs his own insurance. Any resources for finding health insurance that we don't have to through a broker? We are not low income.
