Applied for a GTRI internships like 4 weeks ago, roughly 3 weeks ago I got an email saying "We are pleased to inform you that your application has passed the initial stage of the recruitment process and has now been forwarded to the Hiring Manager for further review. We will provide you with a further update at the earliest possible opportunity." and have not heard back since. Just wondering if I should take this as a rejection or if it really is just a slow timeline

Hello, I am a MS student continuing studies after graduating BS here this year. I was aware that the normal funnel to getting a GTA position was to contacting professors and talking to them directly, but the recent MSCS handbook and GTA application email explicitly says "Do not contact professors" in bold, which is worrying me as I was planning to visit professors in-person during office hours, and making me think twice even about just emailing them.
Does anybody have insight regarding if this is a recent change starting from this semester, and what is the "correct way" to politely ask professors regarding opportunities now? Do I have to contact head TAs, or do I just fill in the application and wait? I want to do things the right way as I don't want to mess with my chances doing something explicitly told not to do.
I really want to work as a GTA given that the next semester will be my last semester here before heading to the industry, and would like to help students out in some form.

I feel like 10 hours of my week now belongs to a class where the content is only ever going to be useful in this class. There is a project or homework on ARC AGI milestone every week that leads literally nowhere. The answer to almost every single assignment is some sort of smart brute force approach where you learn how to target problems from videos filmed in 2016 and given back to you in video format.
I wouldn't mind it all if the projects and homeworks didn't take so long. If you aren't cheating, get ready to give up ~12 hours to a project you will never think about or see ever again, and 1-2 hours writing a report that somebody else will 'peer review' by putting your whole report into chatgpt and then rewording its output.
What really bothers me the most is that I've heard such great things about Dr. Joyner and his passion for what he does, but I do not see that reflected whatsoever in this class.
This is the only class I can truly say I regret taking and cannot see any benefit from in the entirety of my degree so far. It feels like a time sink for a class of completely irrelevant problems. I am so fed up that I am thinking about taking my first withdrawal.
If youve made it this far in my rant, I have a cookie for you. 🍪

I vaguely remember finding a public spreadsheet that had the amount of money allocated to basically every single RSO for a certain year, I'm not sure if this was SGA budgets/bills/etc but I remember the magnitudes of some of the numbers were in the 6 figures. If anyone knows the proper name for that spreadsheet lmk!

I graduated in May 2024(BME), but I had a friend in high school who went to Harvard instead and was telling me about the "H-bomb", and how that when he tells people he went to Harvard, they generally start treating him differently, so I started thinking about how people react to me when I tell them I went to Tech.
My first job right after I graduated was as a clinic receptionist, and whenever it came up in conversation that I went to Georgia Tech, people would usually say something like "Wow, that's a great school!" Followed by something like "why are you working here?" so I'd tell them the truth, which is that they were hiring and they'd usually laugh it off and that would be that.
It got worse when I started my master's, though, because everyone in my cohort is international/PhD students who have asked me more than a few times why I wanted to get a masters instead of "just getting a job" right after graduating, or at least staying at Georgia Tech instead of settling for (insert state school here). I still tell them the truth, though, which is that I couldn't get a job, but even my advisor and other people in my research group have put these really weird expectations on me about what classes/tasks I should be able to handle, because "Georgia Tech is such a good school!" and when I inevitably tell them I haven't, in fact, cured cancer, or that I'm not a genius, and I'm struggling in my classes, they always act super surprised, because "Georgia Tech is such a good school!" which honestly makes me wish that I went somewhere else sometimes, even if they're right, because I'm such a letdown to everyone's expectations.
Anyone else experience something similar after graduating?

Hi. I’ve been trying to decide between these two majors and I was looking for advice. I entered as a mechanical engineer but have found myself liking math courses a lot more than the physics or engineering side of things.
People have told me isye major is like a combination of cs, applied math, and business which are all very interesting to me. Georgia tech is also #1 in isye and would probably have better job opportunities after graduation.
On the flip side math is also very interesting to me. Ik the math classes are very different from higher level math classes where you’re writing proofs but I don’t think I would mind that and watched some intro to proofs lectures and found it fascinating. However, I am concerned about the rigor of the course and how useful the degree will be in this job market. I’m not sure if I want to attend grad school yet and I’m also out of state so I want to graduate in four years (hopefully).
If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

The US government recently replaced the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Super Intelligence (SI) (https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2026/09/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-inaugurates-the-era-of-super-intelligence/).
Since GT is a public school, would there be plans to rename the Artificial Intelligence specialization to Super Intelligence?
This is also related to several course titles:
| Course | Current course title | New title |
|---|---|---|
| CS 6601 | Artificial Intelligence | Super Intelligence |
| CS 6603 | AI, Ethics, and Society | SI, Ethics, and Society |
| CS 7632 | Game AI | Game SI |
| CS 7637 | Knowledge-Based AI | Knowledge-Based SI |
| CS 7638 | Robotics: AI Techniques | Robotics: SI Techniques |
| CS 8803 O27 | Computer Graphics in the AI Era | Computer Graphics in the SI Era |
Georgia Tech also announces the new OMS AI (Online Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence) (https://news.gatech.edu/news/2026/10/06/georgia-tech-announces-new-online-masters-degree-artificial-intelligence). Will this be renamed to OMS SI (Online Master’s Degree in Super Intelligence) following the US government directive?

Hey Jackets!
I'm a former Georgia Tech undergraduate student planning to return sometime next year after being out of school for about five years. I originally studied Computer Science and was about halfway through my third year when I had to withdraw due to some serious health and financial challenges.
I've spent the last five years working full-time and haven't done much academically during that time. I'm excited about the possibility of returning, but I'm also a little nervous about jumping back into Georgia Tech coursework after such a long break, especially when it comes to math and programming.
I'm planning to switch my major from Computer Science to Computational Media because I feel like it's a better fit for where I'm at right now.
My biggest concern right now is ISyE 3770 (Statistics and Applications).
It's been years since I've taken a math class, and while I've already completed my calculus requirements, I know I've forgotten a lot of the material. I want to spend the next 6 to 8 months rebuilding my foundation in the specific areas of algebra, calculus, set theory, and other mathematical concepts that I'll actually need for probability and statistics.
I've already done some research and found an ISyE 3770 syllabus on Georgia Tech's website, along with the two recommended textbooks. I also discovered Georgia Tech's four-part Probability and Statistics series on edX, taught by Professor David Goldsman, which appears to cover much of the material. I'm planning to work through those courses and the textbooks independently.
What I'm hoping to find is more recent ISyE 3770 course material that can help me structure my preparation.
If anyone has taken ISyE 3770 recently and would be willing to share any of the following, I'd really appreciate it:
To be clear, I'm not looking for completed assignments, solutions, or answers to exams. I'm just trying to understand what students are currently expected to know and be able to do so I can prepare accordingly.
I'm also hoping to refresh my programming skills before returning.
I previously took CS 1331 and CS 2340, and I still have some of my old course materials. I'd like to thoroughly review Java, object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, UML diagrams, software design principles, and other concepts from those courses before returning. I was also taking CS 1332 when I had to withdraw, so that's another class I'm particularly interested in preparing for.
If anyone has recent syllabi, study guides, or any materials for CS 1331, CS 1332, or CS 2340, I'd really appreciate those as well. My main focus for this post is ISyE 3770, but programming is the other area I'm trying to refresh on.
Lastly, I'd love to hear from anyone who's returned to Georgia Tech after a long academic break.
How did you approach reviewing material you hadn't touched in years? Did you work through old textbooks, take online courses, revisit previous assignments, or follow some other structured plan?
I've always considered myself an average student academically, but I've generally been successful when I put in the time, study consistently, and prepare thoroughly. That's really what I'm trying to do here. I don't want to return and spend the semester struggling to remember foundational concepts while simultaneously trying to learn new material.
I have several months to prepare, and I'd like to make the most of that time so I can return feeling confident and ready to succeed.
Any advice, resources, or materials you're willing to share would mean a lot.
Thanks in advance!

Explain why, when I check, that there are NO AVAILABLE STAMPS APPOINTMENTS until the end of the semester?!! If I'm sick, what do I even do? And why don't they have any available appointments?

I'm a CS student in AI and Cybersecurity, and I'm interested in jobs that combine both (e.g. AI Cybersecurity Engineer, Threat Intelligence Analyst, Red-Teaming AI Trainer, etc). However, I've been finding it hard to find internships, full-time, or any job in the U.S. with the Cybersecurity aspect. I'm an international student, and most jobs require one to be a U.S. person or security clearance. Any tips for this? Kinda giving up ngl and would just go for SWE or AI/ML jobs.

My friend left their Macbook inside a briefcase near Tech Square today, around 8.30 PM today. We realized an hour later and rushed back, but couldn't find the lime bikes or the briefcase. Apple's FindMyDevice didn't help either since it said the macbook was offline. What's the best course of action now? Reach out to GTPD? Lime support? Anything else? The Lime bikes were left in front of Asian Fusion.

Hi all. I am a soon to be double Jacket (ISyE/OMSA). I live close to one of the ELSYS labs, and am super interested in working for GTRI, especially since at some point I am considering pursuing my PhD. I have applied to a few positions and have gone through some interviews there. For one position, they seemed really interested in me, but the position I applied for had some delays in approval, so it fell through. I am in early round interviews for a different position now. I am wondering if it would give me a leg-up to directly contact someone at GTRI re-iterating my interest given my history with the institute? Any other tips to get me ahead?

Hi everyone! We’re a group of Georgia Tech students, and we wanted to share something we’ve been working on.
When we were trying to borrow regalia for graduation, we realized how expensive it can be to buy new regalia. So we built a free, simple platform called Regalia Marketplace (regaliamarketplace.com) to make it easier for students to exchange regalia with each other.
How it works:
For buyers:
For sellers:
The goal is to make graduation more affordable and less stressful by helping students support one another. We’re still early and would really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or ideas from the community. Thanks so much for taking a look!
