Wars are terrible and my heart goes out to everyone affected, but the protests have been violent and disgustingly uncivilized. You will never get an answer like this. You’re harassing the staff and students . Doing it in a library where everyone is studying after paying a shit ton of money is straight up hideous. What the group has been doing to Craig Monk and the president is harassment and I don’t know why they haven’t filed any police reports. You cannot agree with someone but you have no right to drop flyers on open house kids or bang doors like that during board meetings. You’re ruining it for Muslim students who have kept themselves separate but when they graduate and tell someone of their degree from macewan, recruiters and hiring managers will look at them with suspicion. Let’s be honest, as people of colour we already have so many disadvantages! This behaviour is hurting not just you, but your fellow Muslim peers and their futures as well. Everyone has worked so hard and not everyone can afford to not have a job or career. Stop being so selfish for once. They will not change. Divesting won’t stop the war. It’s an ugly truth but the staff just doesn’t have the power to make such a political decision for a country. It’s the top 1% of the world that will make those decisions and dgaf about regular people anyway. No matter how much you harras them.

People hate on vegans as a whole when SOME protesters throw blood and soup on paintings BECAUSE it’s uncivilized and disgusting. Groups who informed people about their cause had so much more success. So many companies have actually switched to being plant based too. Otherwise, everyone would’ve grouped their brand with violence and chaos too.

It takes attention away from the CAUSE and brings it towards your actions that are not acceptable as well!!! Youre ruining the cause. Before people understand or even get informed about “why” they just see and register you as a bad, disrespectful person. Learn how the world works.

I was disappointed to see the uncivilized groups of protests, but I’m beyond frustrated that macewan isn’t doing anything about it. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean harassing Craig and Anne (I think). Macewan needs to be firm for the love of god, this is severely destroying the university’s image for all students, past, present, and future. Who would join macewan knowing they would be at risk of this being incorrectly grouped with a handful of kids who have caused such ruckus and lowkey illegal behaviours towards their peers and the heads. Have some freaking humility. The world is not just about what you stand for.

Hi everyone I just applied to macewan a couple weeks ago and I received a temporary password that I was told to change and when I have clicked on the link to change it for I see this picture and also when I try to sign in on the actual website it says my username or password is wrong. I have tried contacting support but they said they need my student id to do anything and I can’t get it because I can’t sign in. If anyone has any idea what’s going on or how to fix it please tell me. Thank you.

I am doing all the work while my partner is barely doing nothing. At least in a group project, you have pressure to work, but you can't become a mommy and keep telling them to work. It's worth 10% of the grade due in 3 days, and I am carrying it.

I think Macewan should focus more on improving the school rather than blaming the Maclean being last.

While I’m all for people protesting for whatever they want to protest but keep it out of university especially inside. The incident yesterday in the library shouldn’t have happened and kudos to EPS + Peace Officers’ for doing their jobs to remove those disrupting the university environment.

May get downvoted for this but protesting Pro-Palestine on university grounds, most people don’t care. However, we can all agree that most people there at this university (and every others) pays thousands of dollars to be there, study and get their degrees—granted some don’t care, but the point I’m making is stop disrupting the learning environments. This has to stop. If you want to protest, do it outside or elsewhere. Universities can’t do anything about this; take it to the legislature or heck, take it to Ottawa.

How likely is it that I can request a midterm to get deferred because of meskanas being down. I've been busy for the last couple of days with an emergency so I was counting on now to get lots of studying done, but this system down takes a good chunk of very important study time and I only have some of the course material downloaded bc storage is limited. I have two midterms tmrw, one of which is fully online with in person tests

In the email about the removal of the protesters they gave their reasoning as being the protesters were too loud and it was interfering with students exams and learning. Okay, cool sure. But I have an 8am in building 6 that is so beautifully accompanied by construction sounds. Very very loud construction sounds. The prof has had to stop numerous times to wait for the sound to finish and the lecture is constantly being interrupted. Why is this consistent and ongoing noise not an issue but a protest (which is arguably quieter and not as constant, but i wasn’t there so i could be wrong) is an immediately addressed ?

(kind of rhetorical. i know why, but curious if other people also noticed the issues with their logic here)

What the heck happened? I've been away from classes and got an email from the Provost that they trespassed a bunch of people for disruptive protests. One of my classes had to listen to a drum circle a few halls down and nothing happened for that, so I was wondering if anyone knew what pushed the university into intervening?

I'm debating taking it seriously and attending this year as its my final year- but from the general list of employers they have - its largely a field mismatch (im in comp sci) and its all service based employers like DHL , govt of alberta, accounting firms, etc etc. Companies that would probably overlook/ignore me anyway.

I wouldn't mind meeting employers from all areas and have lots of customer service experience as well, but my jaded 4th year gut tells me - this is just for show and useless HR meet and greets where nothing really comes of it.

since when does class end five minutes early? in almost all of my classes people start to pack up 5-10 minutes before the class is over, making the prof have to speak over all of the noise. sometimes they just give up and end class early. it also obviously makes it way harder to hear what they're saying. i think it's insanely disrespectful to your professors and other classmates that are paying to take these classes😭😭

edit: i was not talking about people leaving early, just people packing their stuff up loudly while the prof is teaching!! i think what i was trying to say kind of got misconstrued i'm sorry i didn't word it better D:

I’m a counsellor in Edmonton participating in a psychotherapy research study through the University of Ottawa, and I’m looking for adults who may be interested in participating.

The study is examining how therapists can improve their effectiveness and how this may contribute to better outcomes in psychotherapy.

Who may be eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

• Are 18 or older
• Are interested in individual counselling in English
• Are able and willing to participate in at least six counselling sessions as part of the study
• Are not currently experiencing an immediate mental-health crisis
• Do not have a psychotic disorder or a neurocognitive disorder that would significantly interfere with participation

The research team will determine eligibility through the study’s screening process.

What does participation involve?

Participants are encouraged to complete at least six counselling sessions as part of the study. The relevant sessions will be audio-recorded for research purposes (audio only; no video recordings are retained).

Participants will also complete brief questionnaires about their wellbeing and experience of therapy, as well as a follow-up questionnaire approximately three months later.

Most participants receive $360 in total research compensation for completing the study questionnaires on time. For some participants who are required to complete additional questions, the maximum total compensation is $406.

Counselling fees still apply. Participation in the research study does not make counselling free.

Sessions can be conducted virtually or in person at my office here in Edmonton.

Participation is voluntary, and choosing not to participate or withdrawing from the study will not affect your ability to receive counselling.

The study has received ethics approval through the University of Ottawa.
