Hobart to dodges bus

Hi everyone! Is there any bus going from Hobart to Dodges Ferry on Saturdays after 7 PM?
I finish work at 8 PM this Saturday and need to find a way to get home. If anyone knows of a bus route or has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Almost 1 in 3 adults in Hobart are over 60

I saw someone else comment about the age of Hobart's population, and I didn't trust their figures, so I decided to check. And they were right.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 32.1% of Greater Hobart's adult population is aged 60 or older.

That's almost 1 in 3, and it's the highest proportion of any Australian capital city.

For comparison, here's the percentage of adults aged 60 and over in Australia's eastern capital cities:

  1. Hobart: 32.1%
  2. Sydney: 25.9%
  3. Brisbane: 25.4%
  4. Melbourne: 25.2%
  5. Canberra: 23.4%

And according to the ABS, Hobart is only getting older.

And, from another ABS source, 52.3% of Australians aged 65 and over have a disability.

With these figures in mind, accessible parking, public transport, walking distances and convenient access become so important.

For many people, the difference between parking 100 metres from a destination and parking 900 metres away can determine whether they're able to access that destination at all.

People with disabilities and chronic health conditions face many of the same challenges.

As I've said many times, when we make places harder to access, we exclude a large percentage of the Hobart population.

I know this is lazy, but tell me who to vote for in the upcoming Glenorchy council election.

I'm doing some research on the candidates for mayor and councillors for Glenorchy council, but I don't know what to believe and what to disbelieve. What does Reddit think? I want to vote for people who are generally interested in doing a good job and not just running for their own egos. Obviously I want to vote for candidates that aren't shouting nonsense and inciting division on social media too. I'm pretty left leaning and Im anti stadium.

I'm turning 50 in the next couple of months, and want to party like it's 2001. What's the best bet for a night out dancing to some progressive psytrance, deep house, minimal techno? Totally out of the loop...

I’ve been struggling to get an IT job lately, and it’s getting frustrating. I’ve been working as a Sales Consultant in the meantime for about a year. I don’t know what to do anymore

Happy Betta Milk Royal Hobart Show Day

What a truly remarkable day it is. So remarkable it's held on a Thursday, to mark an event that doesn't run on a Sunday, that most of us don't go to anyway.

I mean, it's not as sacred as Recreation Day in northern Tasmania... which they started because otherwise Hobart would have one more public holiday than Launceston. Or as fundamentally important to the fabric of our society as Regatta Day. But it's our day. May the Great Boonie bless us all.

West Hobart: hilly or closer to rivulet

Another where should we live post but hopefully this is specific enough.

My partner and I have moved back to Hobart after 12 years in the US. He’s Tasmanian and I’m American but am familiar with this area since I met him here.

We are looking to buy a house and our preferred suburb is West Hobart but open to areas around there. I’ll be at UTAS but only going there a few days a week. My husband doesn’t have a job yet. We have a 15 month old son.

We’ve found two houses that we have loved and are at the upper end of our budget but still doable ($1.4 mil). We may not get either but it lends us to a wider conversation about what is preferable, so thought I’d ask internet strangers what would be the better option here:

1) a very walkable historic home with easy access to the rivulet, shops, schools, etc. a few min walk from the Goulburn St Primary School. Because its historic, although it’s been renovated, would require significant maintenance, such as an old retaining wall. Has nice views and a pretty garden.

2) a house up a steep hill with easy access to Knocklofty, which is great because we love to hike and my partner likes to mountain bike. Not as much in the bushfire zone as others. Some of the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen. Built in the 70s so no maintenance required. About a 15 minute steep walk from Landsdowne Crescent Primary and a bunch of other cafes etc, but definitely not as walkable.

Given primary school, community feel, and walkability vs nature access, which one would be better for a small family looking for all of that? Or should we just keep looking?

After seeing what has happened in other states, I'd be very surprised if nothing is going on.

Commuting help

Hi all,

I've got a couple of afternoon to evening shifts coming up (2pm-8pm) which I've never done before, and I'm looking for some advice on the best way to get from the CBD to Kingston after work.

There won't be any busses to my area of Kingston at that time, and I'm not sure I feel safe waiting for one at Franklin Square anyway. I could drive in, and park in Argyle Street, but how safe is it to walk through Wellington Arcade at night as a young woman, alone? My other option I think would be a taxi from out front of Central Hotel on Collins Street (most expensive option). I don't have anyone to pick me up unfortunately.

I know I'm overthinking this, but just trying to get all my ducks in a row ahead of time, so appreciate any advice you have!

Do the r/ Tasmania and r/ Hobart lean too far too the left?

This could all be in my head, but that's my impression from the short time I've spent on these subs. I truly don't consider myself to be a right-winger or even right-leaning but I do feel as though all views that don't harmonise with small vocal group on these subs receives unfair treatment.
This is not a dig at the moderators or r/hobart and r/tasmania and my view could very well be a personal problem of perception.
If it is, please, go right ahead and ignore this post, but if anyone else shares this view, please consider contributing to some alternatives -

There are no moderators or content yet.
It's really just an idea and really something I would rather see exist and contribute to than actually steer myself.
I'm not a long-term, hard-core redditor but I've identified a couple of 14year veterans that I think would be ideal moderators. I haven't spoken to either of them about it and don't know if they have the time or interest. If any of you do, hit me up for the moderator invite.

I only ask that GIFS and picture functionality is left enabled.

this place has been gaining some traction in the community, for the wrong reasons! Apparently the manager is a complete A$$ and treats staff and customers like crap, and is very unprofessional. I've not seen so many people agree about a person like this. Refer to facebook for OP about it all. Feel free to add comments about it below

Any word on You Can See Everything Hobart Screenings??

Hi all,

Does anyone have any intel on whether You Can See Everything will have any screenings in Hobart? A24 are notoriously terrible distributors so I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t make it here but I thought I’d check to see if anyone has the inside word before I start planning a trip to Melbourne to see it otherwise.

Thanks!

i have a suspicion that they are not going to reopen. does anyone have any ideas or updates on the butchers at kmart (urban meat craft?) it's a shame that they haven't been open because i prefer to get my meat from a butcher rather than the chains.
