Mocked up a curtain look on our bare windows. Worth adding blocking before the walls get closed up?
First two pics are what we're working with right now. Last one is a render. I grabbed a curtain style from NeutralCurtains and placed it onto one of our windows to see how things might actually look once the room is finished.
We're mid renovation in a concrete building and the crew keeps asking if I want anything added before they fur out the walls and close everything up. Every window is right up against the neighboring building's stone wall so we get barely any light, which makes picking curtains a nightmare. Sheers would at least keep what little brightness we get but you'd still be staring at stone through fabric. Heavy curtains would block the view but then I'm just sitting in the dark all day. The layered rod plus Roman shade combo from the render is probably what I'll end up doing, but if I change my mind and go with a track later the bracket positions shift too. I can't commit to a setup right now so I'm thinking I just ask for a wide strip of blocking above each window to cover whatever I end up choosing. For those of you who went through a gut reno, did you bother adding blocking for curtain hardware or just anchor into the wall after everything was finished?

Would you paint these honey oak cabinets or keep them and update everything else?
Need advice on garage door repair
Accidentally backed into my garage door while it was opening. This part that goes on the track is bent now. I'm afraid to try closing it. Can this be bent back, or will I need to call a professional?

What do you recommend to put behind my computer chair wheels so it doesn't roll backwards so easily?

What is this black stuff on and around vents?
All, I need help identifying if this black stuff on the vents is mold or something else, and if I should avoid renting this place because of it?

Bad foundation support posts
So unfortunately we found out the support posts along the center beam in our crawl space look like this. We don’t know what caused it. Age (1978 home)? Water damage? To our knowledge we haven’t had standing water. Wondering if anyone has experienced this and knows the cause.

How concerning are these
Noticed this gap between the tile and the wall, inside of an ADU, outside wall seems cracked and also visibly warped outwards towards the bottom. Not willing to pull that "trim" to see if inside is actually also cracked , that gap can also fit a quarter, just didn't have one handy
House is also not level, chair rolls on its own towards that side / area

Remodeling poll
We are remodeling and know we will be selling in the near future (couple of years).
What is more appealing to potential buyers in the master bath, a walk in shower or a tub?

Groundhog tunneled under crawlspace wall
In the corner of my 21'x12' crawlspace under my living room, a groundhog tunneled from outside underneath the cinder blocks and footing into my crawlspace. Hard to estimate the hole size without getting any closer to the hole. I have a structural engineer visit scheduled but in the meantime I'm curious what people familiar with foundation repairs think my remedy will end up being. Is this a small enough area to not be a structural concern and can just be backfilled, or will I likely need some sort of metal support or foam injection?
What are the cracks here and how bad are they?
Relatively new homeowner in 3rd year in home and noticed these cracks forming in my basement around this drain pipe. Any info on what’s going on here, how bad it is, and what kind of specialist I might need to call in to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Owning a house comes with way too much info!
It's amazing how much stuff you need to keep track of when you own a home. And somehow, when you actually need something, it's never where you thought you put it.
I decided to make something for that.
It's called House Bookmark. Basically, a digital binder for all the important details about your house, without having to dig through drawers or old emails.
I made a sample home you can explore without signing up: https://housebookmark.com

Scary crack in the ceiling? (3 photos; first for scale, others for detail)
House built in mid 1940s. Roof replaced 5 years ago with TPO membrane. Engineer-approved solar on the roof 2 years ago. This crack is new and scary to me. We have other cracks, but non bubbling like this. Anyone know if our ceiling is about to fall in? TIA
Edited to add: Do I call the roofer? The solar people? Or can I just fix the plaster and paint? (My first home... no one I know personally to ask.)

how to prepare house for the winter to reduce bugs
So I'm in a lower northeast state in a 60 y/o house and i'm new to being a homeowner. How are we treating the house outside to prepare it for the colder months so there's minimal bugs trying to come indoors? Do you guys spray the perimeter of the entrances/windows outside? I have tiny fragile spiders on every floor that come out of nowhere but they pretty much stay in their spot. I know that spiders help with other pests but i still don't like them. And I did see a wolf spider in the lower level once which was freakin scary which i never want to see again even though they don't do much either. The other nuisance i have are those asian lady beetles on the south facing windows that are very old. I had a crappy exclusion work done so I don't have much faith in that. They also sprayed outside so I am seeing some dead ones outside. And the garage interior door going to the inside of the house should I put anything there? Help! :)

I would love some ideas on how to create a more functional entertaining/maybe tv watching in this living room, beyond the kitchen. Couch is leaving and not tied to much in that area!

Can I drill this into my door?

Hey guys, my front door is kinda old (my house is also old) but I want to mount this coat hanger on it… do you think there would be a risk of the wood cracking or splitting or anything?
Wierd toilet flush

what is this
Anyone know what is this water pipe purpose ?
My neighbor called me this morning and tell me water break out in my yard.
Run down and see the pipe with no valve running water like crazy
I went to turn off the valve for my home water and it was still running.
I put my finger in there and it suddenly stopped. Now I turn on the water again and not a single drop of water come out.
I checked all faucets in my home and see no leak.
Now, look like there is no problem anymore. Just wonder what could it be.

tabletop flocked trees that dont snow all over the table?
i love the look but some cheap flocked trees shed like theyre actively dying. need small ones for seasonal displays, around desktop size. ive looked at christmas decor suppliers on alibaba and you can get everything from barely dusted to completely white, but shedding isnt something product photo can tell. anyone bought a batch that stayed decent? is PVC vs PE branch material relevant at this size or mostly flocking adhesive quality? battery lights would be nice but not essential. im thinking plain tree might actually be safer and add lights ourselves. if you sell these, how bad is storage after season? does flocking yellow or flatten when boxed for a year?
