How British do Isound?
I genuinely speak like this I am half English half Slovakian. People in the UK always ask where I am from as apparently I have an accent. How strong is my accent and how can I improve it. Really annoying as in Slovakian I have an accent aswell so feel like a foreigner in both countries.

English Southern Dialect Imitation (American English)
Hello everyone
I am a Linguistics MA student and I am currently working on a project that tests dialect imitation- specifically focusing on imitation of Southern American English.
If there are any West Coast native English speakers here that believe that can produce an accurate imitation of one of these dialects please PM me! I will accept any variation as long as you are confident in your replication (with a preference for Appalachian & Texan)!
If it is not too much trouble I am looking for someone to send me an audio recording of them speaking with their normal speech patterning and then one of them using the dialect! I would be sending a super short script to read (about 1 or 2 paragraphs) and each recording shouldn’t take longer than a minute!
Please let me know if you have any questions

English How did I “lose” my American accent? How is it even possible?
I stayed in the US from 2007-2008 (10 months, at 17-18), then 2010-2013 (2.5 years, at 20-23) and finally 2017-2018 (1.5 years at 27-28). About 4 years and 10 months, scattered. I’ve been back in Korea ever since.
Reddit comments on my recording from 5 years ago (3 years out)
- Sounds 99% like an American accent to me, and about as neutral as it’s possible for an American accent to be.
There are a couple of bits where you sound like you have a slight Asian accent, but I’m not sure I would notice if I wasn’t specifically listening out for it.
- You honestly have very very little accent. You sound like 90-95% native to me (I’m American). If ylu didnt have that tiny bit of an accent Id guess you’re a native speaker.
- Hmm its hard to guess where youre from, I would guess you are from somewhere in Asia? You dont have a strong accent by any means and it reminds me of somebody else who posted here with barely any accent and they were from South Korea (unless you are the same person posting again lol) (note: I was that person)
Reddit comments from my recent post (today)
- SE Asia (based on your prosody).
- Hmm..The rhythm and tonality in some parts sound Cantonese to me.. Kinda close to my neighbour, Swedish - But all in all you’re definitely East Asian. Not Japanese nor Mandarin native speaker tho.
- South Asian!
I deleted a post I uploaded a few days ago so people can guess the accent from a blank slate. But one commenter went as far as to say something along the lines of:
“You sound non-native. And if it didn’t happen in the first 5 years [that you spent in America] it’s never going to happen.”
which I thought was a bit unfair because it actually went the OTHER direction.
I teach the SAT for a living (so I’m surrounded by bilinguals) and I never would’ve thought simply physically being in Korea make me LOSE the supposedly 90-99% American accent I used to have?
What do you think happened?
I consume enough American media. What do you think I can do to get the accent back?

What does my accent sound like? Try telling me where I'm from.
I've been formally studying English for over 12 years, but in practice, even reading is a bit of a struggle for me. Nothing unusual, considering I didn't really need this language... But I wonder what my accent sounds. I'm not immersed in the Anglosphere, so I can't determine it myself

Grew up in the States but I feel like I have a foreign accent
recorder.google.comHey all! It's my first time posting something like this online, so I am a little nervous about what yall will have to say. I moved to the US when I was 1.5 years old, and though I am fluent in English, I have been told by many of my peers (more so in the past) that I have a foreign accent. I definitely notice this when listening to old recordings of myself, and I find it a little embarrassing since I grew up in a pretty diverse community where everyone spoke English with an American accent. I suspect that speaking my ethnic mother tongue at home may have contributed to this. Either way, I have been working to correct this over the past year, and I am looking for some more feedback. I'd say that I am aiming for a Californian accent (maybe something like what James Hetfield has? IK he is from California, but I don't know if what he has is a Californian accent. Either way, something like that).
Edit: Just added the excerpts I read from in the recording

Japanese I feel like my pronunciation is the strongest attribute of my language skills next to recognizing patterns and making connections. What do you think?
I speak four other languages and I’m more fluent in others than Japanese simply because I don’t get the opportunity to practice it every day.

Russian American speaking Russian (1 month later)
Hello,
I posted here 1 month ago and I was told that my voice sounded robotic and lacked tonal flow.
I have tried to adapt this and try to sound more natural.
Note: I am not a Russian person. I grew up in America and I am self taught (with the help of DuoLingo and a few books). I also utilize translators, so my apologies if the vocabulary is slightly off.
I am also aware that I likely have a strong American accent.
If you happen to speak Russian, please let me know what you think. If you have any pointers, please drop them here. Thank you so much!

German Jugde my German accent!
Fällt Euch sonst was auf?
Bonuspunkte, wenn jemand errät wo ich her komme und wo ich in DE wohne :)
