Cafe for private conversations?
Are there any nice cozy cafes where you can meet someone and not feel like others can hear you in Leuven??

Hello everyone, I'm applying for student visa to Belgium Embassy in India and I'd like to ask for any advice regarding this (all countries welcome).
The embassy advices that all original documents have to be in English with apostille, or needs translation.
I studied in Serbia and my degree originally is in English, but my apostille sticker is in Serbian (Cyrillic). Do I need to translate the apostille sticker/whole document?
I emailed the embassy and they aren't replying, and I'm afraid that VFS/Embassy might reject the degree and I'll lose time since my registration date is close.

Hey everyone! I moved to Leuven a week or two ago as an international student, and I joined my programme a bit later than I was supposed to. So I’ve been trying to catch up with classes and academic commitments while also figuring out life in a new country.
Honestly, it’s been a bit draining lately. My days have pretty much become a loop of waking up, going to class, studying, doing chores, coming home, and sleeping.
I’d love to make some friends and do things outside that routine, but between catching up academically and just adjusting to everything, I haven’t had much energy to put myself out there either. It’s a bit of a weird cycle.
So I thought I’d put this out here in case anyone else is going through something similar, or even if you’re just looking for people to hang out with!
We could grab coffee, try a new food spot, explore Leuven, go for a walk, or head to a bar in the evening. I don’t drink myself, but I do enjoy the atmosphere. I’m pretty open to anything, really, and I don’t mind who you are or what your background is. Just looking to meet some nice people and make life here feel a little less like an endless to-do list.

What are some good restaurants (preferably Italian) to go to on Friday evening at around 7PM? I’ve heard that Rossi and La Filosofia are pretty good restaurants but I am curious which others there are and if you need a reservation for them or not.

Looking for gym recommendations. I'm trying to be more consistent with workouts and I definitely enjoy working out in mornings more than evenings.
Evening workouts after my full-time job just don't work for me, and I end up skipping.
I checked Google and saw many gyms open around 7 am. I am rather looking for options which open a little earlier (5:30 or 6 am), so I can work out during morning and still get to the office on time!

Do people here have a feeling for the buying vs renting & investing difference situation in / around Leuven (Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, ...)?
It seems rent is relatively high compared to buying, so the idea that renting + investing would outperform buying might not hold in this region.
I'm looking at a small house (not apartment) of max ~450k. I'm not sure what rent for something similar would be.
Any input is welcome!

I haven't been able to ride my bike for the past month since I've had surgery on my back, and have had to resort to the lovely lovely De Lijn buses to get around town. I've noticed how nonchalant 99 percent of sick people on the bus are about other people and their health.
I wear a mask in confined spaces most of the time, but it happens once or twice that I forget. My fault, I know. But why in the world would you get on public transit, proceed to cough continuously without covering your mouth in any way, and ignore the fact that there are multiple strains of viruses going around at the moment?
I've caught a cold twice this past month, which I can't for sure attribute to public transit, but it sure wakes you up to just how many (typically middle-aged or elderly people) just walk around coughing or sneezing or blowing their nose in your face. I wish masks were mandatory around this time of year but I know that can't be enforced. Sigh.

Hoi r/Leuven,
Stuur me even een DM. Alvast super bedankt!

So I did a stupid impulisve thing today. Long story short, I needed furniture went to Kringwinkel, bought it for delivery, thinking they would obviously deliver it to my apartment on first floor. Well turns, out they only deliver it to the ground floor. Now I need to arrange a ladderlift, and I have no clue what I need to take care of. I do speak German, but Dutch is completly out of my comfort zone. Can you guys please help me out, and tell me what all I need to take care of, or make my situation better? I would be grateful for every help and tip you can.

Good evening everyone.
My younger brother is 14 and plays basketball quite well, I've been searching for a team in Leuven and I found Leuven bears, I called them they emailed me, I applied for him to join their academy but when I followed up on it I received no response. I even sent them a message on Instagram but to no avail. He does go to the public parks but he's been begging that he would love to be part of a team.
Please tell me where do I take him to try out for a team? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hi everyone!
I’m coming from Spain to Leuven for an Erasmus+ research internship at KU Leuven (Gasthuisberg) from February to May 2027, and I’m currently struggling to find accommodation.
I was initially interested in Xior Student Housing, particularly their studios and Comfort Plus rooms. Unfortunately, I was informed that they’re fully booked, literally just before my sister was supposed to visit the residence and potentially secure a room for me. 🥲
I’m hoping some of you might have recommendations for similar student residences in Leuven!
What I’m looking for:
Budget: Ideally €600–€800/month, including bills (electricity, water, heating and internet).
Private bathroom: Absolutely mandatory. I don’t mind sharing a kitchen.
Private kitchenette: A big plus! A studio would be ideal.
Condition: Preferably a modern, clean, well-maintained student residence, similar to Xior.
Location: Ideally close to Gasthuisberg/UZ Leuven, or somewhere with convenient public transport.
Rental period: February–May 2027, with a proper short-term rental contract.
I’m particularly interested in professionally managed student residences rather than private apartments.
If you’ve stayed in a residence you’d recommend, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience!
It would also be incredibly helpful if you could share the residence name, approximate monthly rent (including bills), deposit amount, and whether they accept Erasmus students for one semester.
I’ve already looked into Xior, but I’m sure there must be other good options that I haven’t discovered yet.
Thank you so much in advance! 😊

My dentist (not in Belgium) recommended that I visit a periodontologist regarding my gums, but I'm not sure where to find one. I tried making an appointment at UZ Leuven but as I understand I can be waiting for up to a year until that comes up...
Can you recommend any good periodontologists? I fear that a simple search without local know-how will lead me to someone who is very eager to claim that I need expensive procedures without actually trying to preserve my teeth and gums.
