Please don't drive like this. It is incredibly dangerous. Sometimes we need to "take the lane" to prevent dangerous situations. We don't do it to be a nuisance. ln this case the door zone. She could easily have passed safely, there was no oncoming traffic, no benefit to her.

Waymo crossed the give way line and started to pull out in front of me. I would have expected the auto system to stop at the give way line where there was very good visibility for it's cameras. Was this antonymous or human driving? I have concerns if this was on auto, Standard behavior for a human.

Velosambas in store in the city?
Potentially a long shot, but don't suppose anyone is aware of a store stocking Velosambas somewhat central? Was hoping the Adidas flagship might but no dice

Bike Stolen on a Test Ride
My wife had her bike stolen on a test ride yesterday - it was for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and whilst she's contacted the police, and is unlikely to get it back, I wanted to post here to maybe help others who are approached by this guy.
He's deactivated his account, but he was going by Alex Duster on Facebook. He immediately asked to call after asking if the bike was still available, and said he lived in Paddington with his 8 month old baby, and that his parents and siblings live in Essex.
He's a young lad - told me he was 23, around 6ft, dark hair, acne scars, sparce facial hair. The bike was a Brompton C-Line, stolen from Greenwich. He was wearing a black Barbour jacket, black trousers and black Nike trainers.
If I can get CCTV footage from the local shops, I'll also share.
Thanks so much.

London to Brighton- Getting to the Start!
I’ve signed up to do the London to Brighton bike ride on Sunday 20th of June 2027. This is the first time I’ve taken part. I’m coming from West Sussex and looking at ways of getting to the start line on the day. I’ve seen the option for getting a coach and having your bike transferred to the start is that generally the best way of getting there?

Considering getting a Tern Vektron P5i but I'm terrified of bike theft in London
I've been considering getting a Vektron for a good while now, and was really inspired to gain more freedom in travel... unfortunately, I didn't realise how bad the bike theft scene was until I started reading some stuff up online!
This ebike is definitely one of the nicer ones and I just know taking it around would always have such a huge risk of theft involved. I wanted to make it my ride around the city and cut off the use of public transport altogether unless necessary.
I haven't commuted before with a bicycle but wanted to get into the whole thing for better health and exploring.
I have read up on bike insurance and those diamond lock things, but is this whole thing still doable if you're going to be anxious 24/7 that your bike's going to get nicked by a rando with some freaky tools?
I wanted some advice on how people navigate this whole cycling life thing when there's constant stress of things getting stolen. I'd ideally try and keep it locked up in a shelter of sorts, but it upsets me that the fantasy of parking my bike with a lock and strolling into a cafe with no worry isn't really feasible like I'd thought.

The UK Highway Code requires drivers to leave a minimum distance of 1.5 metres when overtaking a cyclist at speeds of up to 30mph, and to give more space at higher speeds.

Do you think it's a mistake to ban cyclists from Oxford St
BBC are showing a video on their live report of Oxford St pedestrianisation of cyclists being told to dismount, and actively refusing.
I can understand why the road needs to be pedestrianised, but can't have bikes coming? Obviously, for now, the road is still physically there, but in the designs they'll be removing. There's more than enough room for a 2m cycle lane that still gives over most of the room for pedestrians.
It feels like we're going from one extreme to the other, and cyclists have been caught in the crossfire.
EDIT:: People are misunderstanding. I know what pedestrianisation is aiming for - car and cycle free. My point remains that people will continue cycling on it regardless, so is it a mistake not to include a dedicated space for cyclists? Unfortunately you can't force everyone off their bike, so people WILL cycle through it. I think we should have space for those people rather than trying to stop them doing they're going to do regardless.

Where do you actually leave your bike when you’re in central London for the day?
For those who cycle into town for work, gym, or plans: where does your bike live while you’re there? Office bike store, street racks, station parking, something else? Are you happy with it, or is it a constant worry? Has anyone ever paid for secure parking, and was it worth it?

How do you actually decide if it’s a riding day?
Fairly new-ish to riding alone and I still haven’t cracked the weather thing.
I use Apple Weather and I never know how to read it. The hourly view says one thing, the map says another, and then it may rain. (so example is for today - I am still not sure if I should go out for a ride or not..)
So a few questions for the regulars:
- Which app do you trust?
- What’s your cutoff? Is there a % chance, mm of rain, or wind speed where you go “nah, tube today”?
- How do you deal with the rain itself? Like stop by some place if it rains heavy or cycle through it.
Any tips appreciated! Thanks!

stolen bike
Hi everyone,
My bike was stolen from my property while builders were carrying out work and using a shared hallway. It’s a Merida Juliet Lite 94,
Although the bike is 11 years old, I kept it in excellent condition and had recently replaced and upgraded several parts. It also has a Shimano 105 groupset.
I’ve since spoken to four bike retailers, who have advised that a new bike with comparable specifications would cost around £1,700 today.
The builder has been asked to compensate me for the missing bike and has come back asking what I believe its current value to be.
I’m a bit unsure what would be reasonable to ask for. If I wanted to replace it with a new bike of a similar specification, I’d be looking at around £1,700. However, I appreciate that an 11-year-old bike wouldn’t be worth that much second-hand, and I suspect its resale value might be around £500.
What would you consider a fair amount to ask for in this situation? Should I base it on the cost of replacing it with a comparable bike, or its second-hand market value, given that the builders were responsible for the circumstances in which it went missing?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Bike stolen Borough area
Hi, my partner's bike got stolen in the local Sainsbury's on Borough Long Lane around 9pm tonight. He called the police and filed the report online. Is there anything else we can do to try and find the bike?
Any advice would be helpful, thank you

Rainproofing
Hello!
Just wanted to ask a very basic (maybe silly) question. Came here rather than asking Gemini or Chatgpt.
I commute about 3km from home to work one-way. A bit of rain never bothered me before but for some reason, the bits of rain lately has got me drenched by the time I get back home or to work. Another sad bit is I wear eyeglasses, which gets really wet too.
Now I am a very basic commuter cyclist – I wear casual clothes (leggings, sometimes jeans) as the the distance isn't that long.
Any tips on how to waterproof myself when cycling in rain? For waterproof jackets, do you wear the hood then the helmet? Any recommendations for a basic, waterproof jacket apt for this weather? And for women, are there any waterproof jackets that is not black & maybe a bit more stylish?
Hope I am on the right page to ask these questions!
Thanks in advance (:
*EDIT*
So it turns out, my bike actually has mudguards 🤣 I'm laughing at myself, never knew they were called mudguards. A context of how basic of a cyclist I am. Thanks everyone for all your response :) I am learning a lot!

Right turns into side roads & does The Highway Code need changing?
youtu.beMy latest film on The Eager Cyclist covers the topic of right turns into side roads and how flexible positioning can reduce chances of hazardous passes on our left-hand side. I also talk about Rule 74 in The Highway Code, which in my opinion needs improving. I hope you find this film interesting!

Second hand bike shops near hackney
I’m looking to buy a second hand bike, budget around £150- £200, I’m quite short so I’d like to try the bike out as well to make sure it’s comfortable. I’ve heard Hackney Cycles is decent, are there any other places i should look?
Also, I have a place in a bicycle hangar, would two locks suffice to keep it safe? One D lock and one chain that locks the body and both wheels?
