Municipal Elections 2026 London desperately needs to plan for a "disruptive" transportation overhaul

Post image
416 Upvotes

After spending time in Calgary and seeing how good transportation can be in that city, I am alarmed by London's lack of vision in both road and transit planning. Calgary has a massive network of highways that make it a pleasure driving around. They also have an ever growing C-Train light rail system. Both the highways and train system was under construction when Calgary was the population that London is now. In my mind London will need what I call a major "disruptive" plan to move the city forward, to make the city liveable in the future. I am surprised how little transportation needs are being talked about in this election, as if it is a minor issue. We are not even planning any real fixes, let alone building them. Susan Stephenson is posting on social media how expensive the BRT stations are, even though they are in line with other cities. She is playing to the lowest common denominator and that works well in London. Josh Morgan has been in office for the past 4 years and has done well with housing, but I do not hear any real transportation solutions from him. How do we move this city forward? Is it even possible?

Municipal Elections 2026 Mustafa Zeboon is such a manchild

This guy might be the worst candidate to become mayor. Not only does he have 0 political experience (never even applied for wards), but he then thinks he's the only person who can save London, Ontario.

He outlines all of these ideas to change the city but he doesn't ever outline any sort of plans. He just says he's going to solve poverty solve the housing crisis solve inequality and racism and he outlines these extremely vague plans and ideas to do so.

What's worse is that he's extremely arrogant and immature. He recently made an AMA Reddit post, in which he insulted the people who critiqued him, called himself "unlike all the other people his age", and then later ended up deleting the Reddit post entirely (probably because it would ruin his public image). You can see this post still on Reddit, and I would urge you to read through the comments.

My and my friend critiqued him on one of his Instagram posts, to which Zeboon began insulting us, calling us "useless stains to the city" among other insults, then after deleting all the comments related to the situation, and then blocking us. Clearly he cannot tolerate any disrespect, since he has such a big god complex.

If he insults and degrades the people who disagree with him, he will certainly do the same if he is mayor, disregarding the people or groups that he doesn't care about/hates.

Matt Millar owns a berry farm in Lambeth that hosted a PPC (far right federal party) event that supported anti-mask and anti-vaccine speakers. He and his family also supported the trucker convoy that terrorized Ottawa.

I'm officially a Candidate for Ward 3 City Councillor!

My initial platform can be found at https://bendurham.ca

  1. If you're in Ward 3, I want to hear your thoughts and concerns
  2. Lemme know if you're interested in helping with the campaign because it's going to be a LOT of work over the next 178 days
  3. If you're not in Ward 3, I want to hear your thoughts, too, but just make it clear you're not in the ward. For science (and data gathering)

Municipal Elections 2026 Please vote pro transit.

The upcoming election in London is FUCKING CRITICAL to convey our city’s desire for better transportation, whether that be better mobility (bike lanes), better and safer roads, and especially better transit.

And I’m not even talking about finishing the BRT, I’m talking about a leader that’s ready to tell the province that London is ready for rapid transit. Not red lanes, rapid transit.

Doug ford loves building LRT’s and underground rail. London is a city that has chronically underdeveloped its network. This is YOUR CHANCE to finally convey what London NEEDS, and there is absolutely no better way to do that then coming to the polls and putting your confidence in a true leader.

This also means doing hard things, like talking to your neighbours about the dangers of a candidate that doesn’t have a vision for a better London.

Susan Stevenson is actively calling to pause and halt further commitments to the proposed North and West BRT extensions.
She critiques existing bike lanes and BRT infrastructure, arguing they aim to "get people out of their cars" while disrupting local traffic and businesses, voting against the city's 2025 Mobility Master Plan which included these transit routes.

Please, London, do not make a huge mistake. Vote pro transit. Rally progress not stall.

Edit: the fact that this post has downvotes already, on REDDIT, should make you furious.

Municipal Elections 2026 Is it a race between Morgan and Stevenson?

(Please don’t rip me to shreds, it’s my first time being able to vote in a mayoral election)

I would much prefer to vote for a more left leaning candidate than Josh Morgan but DO NOT want to risk Susan Stevenson being elected.

I don’t have a lot of context on history and popularity of these candidates, but a left split vote can cost and has costed big time other elections.

It also seems so strangely difficult to clearly find candidates views and specific strategies?

Would appreciate some guidance on how this kind of this may go!

Municipal Elections 2026 Susan Stevenson high support?

When susan announced she was running for mayor I thought she'd lose and London will get rid of her but after being blocked by her and posting on Facebook about it to family I've come to find ALOT of people I know support her and believe her facebook post as full turth even tho she's pro arresting homeless, pro forced rehab, wants to end ark aid (which yes ik they pay the higher ups there a lot and it should be reformed but ending it isn't right to the homeless to punish them when reform can happen with the pay) and she's a ppc (peoples party of Canada) supporter but it seems nobody knows this. I only know because of accounts I follow in London/reddit, and I'm genuinely scared that Susan stevenson will win mayor due to her facebook post for the older ppl to love her and idk how to change my family's minds on supporting her cuz anything I say isn't well known. So does anyone know how much support she really has and if I'm freaking out over nothing, or do I really have to vote Josh Morgan to prevent a far rightwing ppc mayor?

Municipal Elections 2026 Ward 10 Councillor Paul Van Meerbergen - Wonderland Road Widening - Just One More Lane!

Post image
223 Upvotes

I watched the Ward 10 debate yesterday and Paul Van Meerbergen said that he would have widened Wonderland Road to 6 lanes 20 years ago. He was very passionate that widening Wonderland would make everyone's lives better because people want to drive their cars. It is such a shame that London does not have many articulate leaders who push for better transit solutions. I remember Kitchener's mayor (Car Zehr?) who championed LRT in Waterloo Region years ago and now they are pushing for Stage 2 or their LRT system. Why does London always want the cheapest option of everything instead of wanting the plan that has the strongest impact? Sorry for the rant. Needless to say, if you are in Ward 10 and you want more of the same, vote for Van Meerbergen.

Municipal Elections 2026 Back of the Envelope Chicken Math

I just did some back of the envelope math on “free eggs”.

If a dozen eggs costs $4.99 right now, and you eat a dozen eggs a week (which would require two chickens to produce 14 eggs a week), that’s $259 a year in egg prices.

Can you shelter, feed, bed, medicate and care for 2 chickens for $259/year?

If egg prices double to $9.99, your egg costs rise to $520/year.

You might be better off with a Costco membership.

Who’s running on the “Free Costco memberships” platform?

Municipal Elections 2026 Stevenson now promises property tax increases under 1% for 2027 & 2028 with the goal to be 0%

Posted on her Twitter today.

This is extremely dangerous. After Joe Fontana left Londoners were faced with hefty tax bills to make up for all of the infrastructure repairs that didn't happen, and we are still paying for it.

Just leaving this here for Ward 3 residents.

As requested: disclaimer from the community. I'm Ben Durham - Ward 3 candidate, shining a light on a councillor's lack of understanding of city council procedures after almost 4 years of being "on the job."

No cuts were made & this video can be found in its entirety on the "London Ontario City Council" YouTube channel.

Municipal Elections 2026 Why 0% tax isn't so great in the long-run (just some information/links)

I just wanted to provide some reading material on why a 0% tax increase isn't so great in the long run:

I also wanted to include this article, providing info on the mayoral candidates stance with tax:

And here's some reading on how municipalities work and how we pay for services through taxes:

Municipal Elections 2026 Ward 10 Progressive voters - who are you going with to avoid a split vote?

Post image
13 Upvotes

EDIT: Wow, thanks for all the responses. The feedback so far confirms my fear: the progressive vote is splitting almost perfectly down the middle between Ward and Moore. If we stay this divided, the incumbent walks right back in.

We need to make a decision as a group. I'm going to reply to a few specific threads below to try and find a consensus. If you're leaning one way, please jump in and help make the case. We need to coalesce around one name.

ORIGINAL: Hey neighbours,

Trying to figure out how to vote strategically in Ward 10 and could use some help. I'm left leaning and my Vote Compass results have Lois Ward and Alex Moore as my top two (84% and 74%).

I'm worried about splitting the progressive vote, so I want to go with whoever has the better shot.

For those of you in Ward 10 leaning left — which of these two are you voting for and why? Any insight on their platforms or who's actually viable would be much appreciated.
