Hey all, need some adviceā¦
EDIT/UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your experiences, opinions, advice, kind words, it was all really helpful! I think my go to will be bus-train-walk and then in hotter weather Iāll try out cycling it! For context I havenāt got the job, Iāve only spoken to the recruiter and Iāve been told that my CV is really good for it and I should seek an interview, which I will be doing! If all goes well then I have a game plan for travel as that was both mine and the recruiterās concern.
I (f26) have a job opportunity in Wymondham, I currently live in Norwich, Earlham Rd. I donāt drive, my only options are to cycle (50mins and free!) or to get the bus from St Stephenās (1hr ish but not free)
Job starts at 8am which would mean getting up between 4-4:30am-5am to get to the bus (6am) and getting to Wymondham around 7:30am to get to the office before 8am. Sorry lots of numbers.
My concern is that with this weather weāve been having and it getting colder as we get closer to the end of the year, cycling may not be my best option. Although Iād enjoy the exercise and the financial aspect of it being entirely free, my partner thinks Iāll hate it that early in the morning, hate getting wet and grubby before a whole day in an office and that my bike will have constant issues, needing repairs or a new bike entirely.
Bus routes seems entirely possible and Iām lucky to even have that option, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with the bus routes and such early morning routes. The earliest Iāve gotten buses to previous jobs outside the city centre has been 7-8am for a start time at 8:45am. So canāt really apply that routine to the one to Wymondham as this will be much earlier and a longer commute.
Bear in mind the job is paid minimum wage and 37.5hrs per week Mon-Fri and Iād be paying something like Ā£20-Ā£50 a week on bus fares to and from. I donāt know what the exact price would be for the fares as I havenāt yet been told exact locations for the job role.
I like the sound of the job, itās stable, Iām good for it and I just fear I wonāt be able to find something similar within the city centre as soon as Iāve been able to find this one. I just canāt get my head around weighing up the pros and cons, not able to see whether itās worth it or not.
Iām yapping now, any advice, tips, honest opinions are welcome! Thank you :)
