Discussion [Meta thread] Political Cartoons: Relevant? Worthwhile? Thoughts?
I got a mod message complaining political cartoons are dominating the sub. It's policy that /r/PropagandaPosters isn't just for posters. I even prefer posts of different mediums like radio broadcasts and leaflets and songs and videos and paintings etc.
This subreddit archives many incredible pieces but if you look at the top posts it's a lot of cartoons. I don't particularly like political cartoons, but the subreddit tolerates them for the sake of consistency and pragmatism. The exception being Carlos Latuff and Ben Garrison which are done to death and I will autoremove under rule 7) memes.
IMO political cartoons are often stale and shallow and obvious and unfunny, but because they're memeable and quick and easy to digest they get disproportionate upvotes. I'm open to a rule change but I encourage you to downvote political cartoons unless they hold significant cultural or artistic merit. Otherwise, I refer to you /r/PoliticalHumor or /r/newspapercomics or /r/editorialcartoons.
I'm curious about the subreddit's thoughts.
Edit: Thanks for the feedback, all. We're doing an experimental test of no 2010+ cartoons/comics. I appreciate some might want a more aggressive cutoff but let's start with that and observe.

Italy 'Italy brandishes the sword of Ancient Rome' — Italian postcard from the Italo-Turkish War (1911-12) showing an Italian sailor taking up the sword of a long-dead Roman soldier in Libya.
The Italo-Turkish War began in September 1911 with the Italian invasion of Libya, then a province of the Ottoman Empire, and ended with the Italian annexation of Ottoman territories in North Africa, which became the Italian colonies of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica. Italy also occupied the then-Ottoman Dodecanese Islands.

United Kingdom 'There are two Germanies' — A panel produced for a British anti-Nazi exhibition in 1944. The panel contrasts the Germany that 'has given great music, science, philosophy, literature, and art to the world' with the one 'that seeks world domination’.
The exhibition was titled 'Germany - The Evidence' and held in London, the bulk of it dedicated to examining Nazi ideology and demonstrating how Germany was responsible for the war. The full text in the central panel reads:
‘There are two Germanies. One has given great music, science, philosophy, literature, and art to the world. This Exhibition tells of the other Germany. The Germany that seeks world domination. The Germany that has brought repression, sorrow, starvation, and death to Europe.’
The figures on the left side are: Holbein, Bach, Beethoven, Goethe, Ehrlich and Einstein. The figures on right are: Frederick the Great, Bismarck, Ludendorff, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Hitler and Göring.

Spain ‘Support for Argentina in the face of English colonialism’ — Spanish Falangist poster published during the Falklands War (1982) showing a British soldier in Argentina.
The text reads in full:
'Our brother country, after suffering the degrading oppression of "Great Britain", has responded in the only way that a country of men of honour can, by occupying a territory that is theirs by right. We Spaniards must see an example in this Argentinian "ACTION", especially while our own country is stained by the English boot. SPANISH GIBRALTAR'.
Seemingly published by Falange Española de las JONS, the Falangist party founded following the end of Francosim. I believe the '1ª línea' (Primera Linea) refers to a faction within FE de las JONS.

United States of America ‘United for Action’ — American cartoon (1948) showing a Catholic knight calling on all ‘Believers in Christ’ to battle the communists, ‘The Common Enemy’.
Published in The Catholic Advance newspaper (23 January 1948) and drawn by 'Maloney', a prolific Catholic cartoonist in the 1940s and 50s. The cartoon featured alongside several articles reporting on the persecution of Christians in communist countries around the world, with one article declaring that the ‘greatest persecution of the Church in history is going on right now, with millions suffering and thousands dying for their faith’.
