In The News Digital Forensics Corp. finally sued by FTC

The FTC sued Digital Forensics Corporation, related companies and owner Dmitry Belkin over services sold to people facing sextortion. According to the complaint, the defendants used victims’ fears to sell packages costing $1,499 to $20,000, then pressured them to pay thousands more for additional protection.

The FTC alleges that much of the promised work was never done, investigative reports contained fabricated information, and contractual refund promises weren’t honored. It also accuses the defendants of suppressing criticism and manufacturing positive reviews, and says consumers paid at least $60 million between February 2023 and July 2026. The complaint alleges six claims:

  • Count I: Misrepresentations Regarding Defendants’ Sextortion Assistance Services. Making false promises about stopping sextortion, investigating attackers, contacting law enforcement, monitoring accounts and providing refunds
  • Count II: Deceptive Consumer Reviews. Presenting fabricated, paid or coerced positive reviews as genuine accounts of customers’ experiences
  • Count III: Deceptive Telemarketing Calls in Violation of the TSR. Making misleading claims about the services and refunds during telephone sales calls
  • Count IV: Use of False, Fictitious, or Fraudulent Statements to Obtain or Attempt to Obtain, or Cause to Be Disclosed or Attempt to Cause to Be Disclosed, Customer Information of a Financial Institution. Using false service promises to obtain customers’ bank-account and payment-card information, in violation of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
  • Count V: Writing or Creating Fake or False Consumer Reviews and Testimonials. Creating reviews that falsely represented that the purported reviewers existed
  • Count VI: Purchasing Fake or False Consumer Reviews. Buying reviews the defendants knew or should have known misrepresented whether the reviewers existed or had experience with the services

The FTC is asking the court to stop the alleged practices, freeze assets, put a receiver in charge of the businesses and order financial relief for consumers. Depending on how the case ends, that could include refunds or cancellation of contracts with outstanding payments. The complaint alone doesn’t mean the companies are closing for good or that everyone will get their money back, but it puts both the way they operate and the money they collected under scrutiny.

New victims: Please read first

1.7k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

So it’s been about six months since someone tried to extort me and blackmail me. When they sent that text I just ignored them and well here we are six months later and not a peep, not a word, not as so much as another threat. The only thing that has happened is that I got an increase in spam text and calls and I’m not even sure the two are connected. So fellas when they try to blackmail you remeber to always bet on nothing!

Female Victim I’m going crazy over this. I am currently experiencing SEXTORTION.

• Upvotes

Long story short, I’ve been talking to this supposed Korean guy I matched on a dating app the whole conversation was “love bombing” and flirting. There was a time I got carried away being horny. I know there might be consequences but alas I still did it. We had a video call and only I had the camera open. I was being recorded. He kept pressuring me to follow him on instagram. I looked it ip and saw the details about him. He was clearly lying I saw that already but alas I still gave in. I made a new account and followed him then he started questioning it. I followed him using my fan account with a few followers which he bought. And me being dumb. Today he sent me a video of him scrolling through the following of my affiliated university and the supposed school I am working at. He said that he will send it to the schools and to all active followers until I send $$$. I told him I can’t because. I don’t have money that I have just paid my father’s surgery. He said ok I can send by next week. I tried to haggle but he was like “I will delete it only if you send it tonight” I said I’ll try. He messaged me again not long ago asking if I’m still here and I replied to him saying yes yes and I can’t send today. I ain’t got anything on my bank. He will for sure message again next week.

I am just scared if he actually sent it to my work and school.

I already deactivated all my profile and changed my usernames and photos. I even messaged my instagram followers to report and block the user.

Now I don’t know what to do. I’ll try to go to the police tomorrow or later because it’s already 2:45am. I really can’t sleep.

Male victim Sextortion

Male victim Attempted Sextortion

some chick from the Philippines tried this shit on me I gave her my ig and my WhatsApp - she started trying to threaten me and she made a video with AI and my face.

Honestly I just told her to send it I don’t give a shit because her account had like 3 followers on instagram and I highly doubt that if she msgs my friends and family that they would even get it cus it’d go to spam. Well anyway I blocked her and stuff but I’m not rlly that phased it’s just bullshit from ppl that don’t wanna work and make money they have so much free time to do this shit.

Anyway- I went through it, it didn’t phase me but I do understand the fear and anxiety that comes with this experience of Sextortion. I hope all of you stay safe and do not forget about this community standing behind you.

Am I cooked?

I have a porn addiction which has led to me paying for services and messaging random woman from a popular site online for a while now usually ft shows. Yesterday I received a call from someone claiming to be the white bearded guy who runs PredatorPoachersofficial on YouTube claiming I unknowingly spoke to a 16 yo girl who’s been missing, trafficked, has met 4000 people for sex, and ect. He first claimed she was apart of a sting but after had said all of that. He sounded exactly like him and knew my name and address. He said the family of the victim would settle for 2500 and if I take a 16 week course on how sex trafficking works to keep me from being charged or having my name associated with this. He said that I’m order to do that I needed to at first pay in full after the call. Then it was half. I told him I get paid this Wednesday because I didnt have it. He mentioned that I wouldn’t be paying it directly to him and that it would be a one time payment through a 3rd party service to the family. Also that he would send some sort of legal documents to my email to sign after sending half. Voice Ai is common now and it could be what’s happening but the way he spoke, responded, and his cadence it all seemed like him. I know I have a addiction and even before this call I’ve been taking steps to try and be better and stop using these sites and seeking connections through transactions. From what I’ve researched it’s possible it’s a scam call. If it’s important the call is from my area code so it being a out of state call center may still be the case. I’m making this to separate my ego from the situation and seek outside POVs through a different lens because it’s hard to in the moment. Not a lot really puts fear into me but yesterday did. Regardless of how this plays out I don’t want to be addicted to gooning anymore not only because of how extreme this has gotten but because of how much it’s changed me over the years

Male victim Scammer sent screenshots to family members.

I was foolishly messaging someone on telegram and sent them a short video of me jerking off. They sent their screenshots of all my socials, and family’s socials threatening to send to people. I immediately blocked them and deleted my telegram. About 15 min later they followed through with their threat and sent screenshots to my wife, and in-laws. No one responded and am dealing with the fallout now. They didn’t send the full video, just screenshots and a threat that they would expose “someone in the family sexting minors”

I don’t really know what to do, and am worried they will come back again with more threats. Since this began, no one has once responded to the scammer and I will not pay him. That said, I’m so paranoid that this isn’t over. My face is not in the video at all so I’m praying the scammer decides to just move on and leave me alone. Just feeling scared, paranoid, ashamed, and incredible stupid.

Based on what I’ve read in this sub, they usually don’t even follow through with it so I’m terrified because mine almost immediately followed through on his threat that I’m dealing with someone much more sinister. I deleted all the evidence of the whole thing which probably wasn’t smart but I was just so shaken up.

1 week update – what I've learned (it's not personal, and paying doesn't help)

EDIT: this is purely my situation and what happened to me. I am not an expert in any of this. Just sharing what happened to me. Dont take this as facts or something that will work for every situation

(USED AI TO WRITE THIS, its my own story, just used AI to rewrite and structure it. Posting this from a burner account since I am still a bit scared and dont want to activate my socials yet)

Quick update on my situation and a few things I wish I'd believed on day 1. Reading this sub calmed me down when it first happened, so I'm hoping this helps someone else.

1. Paying doesn't make them happy or make it go away.
I paid thinking it would keep them calm. It didn't. They will always find a reason to ask for more. Always.

2. It's not personal, even though it feels like it.
At first I was convinced they were out to get me specifically. But their threats didn't even make sense. They started with something that really scared me, people close to me, and a few days later switched to something I barely cared about. If they really knew me or had a plan, they would have stuck with what hurt most. It showed me they don't know what they're doing. They're just running a script and throwing different things at you to see what causes panic. You're one of many to them.

3. Talking or negotiating with them only makes it worse.
I know you've read this a million times. I didn't believe it either. In my case they said "pay and then you can block me." I paid. They said "money received." Later they asked "don't you want proof that I deleted it?" I said yes and heard nothing, so I blocked them like they'd told me to. The next day a new number messaged me: now they were "really angry" because I blocked without waiting for the proof, so they "didn't delete it." Whatever you do or say, they'll twist it into a reason for more. There is no pleading or negotiating your way out. Every reply just gives them leverage.

4. Check what's actually public about you.
My accounts were "private," but some things were still visible: posts in public groups, some old profile pictures, and who liked and commented on them. This made me go through everything and search myself. It's a pain, and Facebook doesn't make it easy to lock down old stuff, but it's worth doing. Tip: on your Facebook profile, tap the three dots → "View as" to see what strangers see.

Where I'm at now: It's been a week since this started and 5 days with no contact at all since their last "angry" threats. Nothing was posted, and nobody I know was contacted. If they message again, I won't open it. Screenshot, report, block. That's it.
If you're on day 1 and panicking: block, don't pay, don't reply. It gets quieter. I'll post a follow-up in a few weeks.

hello all, as title says, i have been fooled by anyone over on telegram, he asked for 50 bucks and all i had was 20, paid him and deleted my account as he was asking for more. he showed as he sent over couple of random accs on instagram and tiktok, ive got no proof as i deleted everything, only one instagram's account which i reached out through a trustworthy relative of mine, he did not reply back and my soul is troubled since, checking nonstop notifications just thinking the worst case scenario that someone might have gotten the disturbing photo. what do you guys think of? there was/is no way to trace my telegram info back to my personal details. Godspeed!

Getting blackmail (20F)

There a guy who is constantly blackmailing me on ig saying that he has some picture of me which I once sent to my that time bf(now ex). I dont know who this person is I don’t know his name nothing.

I’m confident that he’s just bluffing about the pic but deep down I’m shit scared.

He has made around 10+ insta ids in the past 3 months.

I tried talking to him he said that I rejected him in the past and now he wants to destroy everything for me and at last he abuses me to hell and blackmails that he will spread the pictures all across and will tell my family.

He just wants to take revenge of something that I never did .

I don’t know what to do how to deal with all this.

Tinder scammer has video of me jerking off on call

I was on tinder and matched with a girl. We spoke for a week and then had phone sex. She recorded the whole thing and turned out to be contracted by another guy (pimp or smth) who's now demanding money or else they'll DM the video to my followers and say I'm a pedo.

Is it going to be ok?

I’m on the dark web for the rest of my life?

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

I was added on Snapchat and told I could make hundreds of dollars by sending pictures of my self. I asked for proof and he send a video of transactions to other girls with his face. He also sent a work ID with his name. So me being stupid I believed him. He also texted me 24 hours the whole day explaining how he just likes inexperienced girls. For context, I didn’t show my face and I am of age. At the end he told me to send a picture with my “ face “ and it had an eyeball in it. He screen records absolutely everything and then says the money is transferring. He gets me on telegram and blocks me from Snapchat and then says “send more or I will upload you to this website”.
He doesn’t have proof that it is me because there’s half an eyeball, none of the pictures show my face. And he only has a video of me dancing at the beginning of our conversation when he asked what do I look like. Oh, and I sent these from a fake Snapchat account.
In reality I am just very ashamed right now that I would even believe that. I want to know if there’s anybody that has a lot of knowledge in this realm and if you could further on give me information

Not so much a story but maybe like an update.

It's been nearly 1.5 years since my sexstortion situation.

Didn't pay and everything has seemingly went away.

The weirdest thing is that every few months I have dreams that seem to be either in reference to my situation or like I have been super again.

But I don't regularly even think about it.

Just super weird

For those who are actively going through sextortion situation

  1. Don't pay any money.

  2. Lock/secure all social media,(go dark or delete, your personal choice)

  3. Try to find someone you trust to tell about the situation and help you through it ( majority of the time the scammers don't actually send pics out, just a scare tactic to make you panic.)

  4. SLOWLY move on with your life (I know this is the hardest thing but don't let this be a defining moment In Your life, let it be a teaching moment and move on.)
