Discussion Got "The Call" for a Datejust… only to realize my Aqua Terra blows it out of the water.
After dailying my 38mm Omega Aqua Terra (Blue Teak) for over three years, my Rolex AD finally called with a 36mm Blue Dial Datejust (smooth bezel, Oyster bracelet). Naturally, I bought it on impulse because turning down "The Call" feels like a sin in this hobby.
Now that I have them side by side, I'm having serious buyer's remorse for the Crown. The AT’s crystal clarity makes it look like there’s no glass at all, and it genuinely feels like a better-designed, more refined GADA watch than the Datejust. Even my wife took one look and immediately picked the Omega.
Sure, the Aqua Terra depreciates like a rock dropped off a cliff while the Rolex holds value, but visually? It’s not even close.
I’ll keep both for now since they’re basically competing for the exact same slot in my collection, but I’m heavily leaning toward keeping the Omega and letting the DJ go.
Looking forward to the "Rolie" fanboys in the comments preparing a 5-paragraph thesis on brand heritage and investment potential.

I took a picture [SOTC: A dozen years in. Maybe just add one more . . .]
I’m interested in the groups’ thoughts on the next watch for the collection in light of my current collection. “Next” is likely a year or two off, late-2027 or 2028 acquisition, maybe. But it is fun to research and consider in the meantime.
My first nicer watch was acquired in 2014 (the vintage Speedmaster), and I’ve typically added something new every two years or so. My wrist size is 7.1”.
Lange & Sohne 1815 Up/Down (Ref: 234.032) Rose gold, 39mm
Plus - Stunning fit & finish, historical connection as Glasshutte is just up the road from my grandparent’s home.
Nits - A small one, but winding takes foreverVacheron 1921 American (Ref: 234.032) White gold, 40mm
Plus: Iconic shape, Geneva seal
Nits: Case shape wears a tad large (38-39 mm would be perfect)Parmigiani Fleurier Sport Chronograph (Ref: PFC931-1020002-400182), Steel, 42mm
Plus: Beautifully integrated, refined design, 5 Hz chronograph
Nits: Could have gone either way on the date complication, but otherwise love itVintage Omega Speedmaster Professional (Ref: 145.012-67), Steel, 42mm
Plus: Classic caliber and history, “pre-moon” 1967-production
Nits: Replacement seconds hand on this one unfortunately, water resistance is lacking(Not Shown - Out for Servicing) Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (Ref: 215.30.40.20.03.001), Steel, 43.5mm
Plus: Bulletproof daily, METAS certified
Nits: A bit too thickNomos Ahoi Neomatik (Ref: 528), Steel, 38.5mm
Plus: Great Indie brand and Bauhaus design, all-arounder w/ 200m WR
Nits: None yet
Vintage Omega (Unknown reference) pin-cushion, steel, 30mm
Plus: Circa-1925, cool inscription on reverse
Nits: It’s tiny!
Not shown: Neo-vintage Seiko two-tone (dad’s old watch), Timex Ironman
Next Watch? I’m looking for something in a different dial color or case shape - (Leading candidates)
- JLC Reverso Tribute in green or burgundy
- Vacheron Malte (tonneau case) in WG
- Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda GMT or Micro-rotor (Agave Blue, Rose, other?)
If there is any interest, I can post my wife’s collection as I infected her with the watch bug a couple of years in. Her collection is probably cooler and more eclectic than mine to be honest.

I took a picture [Omega] Dark Side of the Moon
This watch is clearly too big for my wrist from the start, but I refuse to let go.
This Speedmaster is the first watch I bought to commemorate my first real big career. Never owned a watch prior to this. It’s the watch that I bought without even being aware of diameter sizing. It’s also the watch that eventually got me into the rabbit hole of watches. It’s my gateway to this cursed hobby.
I barely wear it now after being aware and conscious of how big it really looks on me. But from time to time, I would wear it and just forget what others say, see or think. I love this watch. My first watch that eventually spawned a dangerous collection after it.

Discussion [Daily News] Orient Kamasu GMT Is A Really Nice Affordable Travel Diver; And New Watches From Sinn, Louis Errard, Pequignet And Lange
Reading Note: Some readers on the Android Reddit app report seeing these posts as unformatted run-on text. The fix: it happens when you tap the image—just go back and tap the title of the post instead.
It's Monday and I'm very much digging the lineup of watches today. Zero objections.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: if you're a subscriber to the newsletter and have been missing them in your inbox, I've been having some deliverability issues since switching to the new platform. The emails often get caught in spam or promotions folders. Please check those and move the emails to your primary inbox. That should fix it.
I publish this every weekday as part of It's About Time, a free daily newsletter. The newsletter version includes more watch commentary, opinions, columns and a couple of non-watch related recommendations that will get you through the day. Subscribe here if that sounds useful.
---------------------------------------------
1/ The New Orient Kamasu GMT Is One Hell Of An Affordable Diver Made For Travel
Cheap GMTs tend to be desk divers with 100 meters of water resistance and a bezel for show. The Kamasu GMT, however, goes a bit harder, with a water resistance rating to 200 meters, which makes it one of the few under $500 you could actually dive with. The Kamasu is Orient’s mid-priced steel diver, around since 2019, and this is the first version with a second time zone. Is a GMT diver the perfect everyday watch? This one might be, if you have the wrist for it.
The steel case measures 42.8mm wide, a millimeter up on the regular Kamasu, and 13.4mm thick. That sounds like a lot, and it is a lot. Add to that the 49.5mm lug-to-lug and the size disqualifies it from being a perfect daily watch. But it's pretty close. On top is a sapphire crystal, which is more than you get in a similar watch from a competitor. You still get the crown guards, which are the same as on the regular Kamasu, and the crown screws down to give you 200 meters of water resistance.
Very little on the dial has changed, which is just fine. You still get a sunburst finish, applied geometric markers, arrow-tipped hour and seconds hands and a sword minute hand. The new GMT hand also ends in an arrow and changes color by reference: red on the black, green and blue dials, gold on the orange, and blue on the limited dark blue edition. The old day-date window is gone, replaced by a framed date at three o’clock, and the minute track now sits on the rehaut.
Inside is the calibre F6P22, an in-house automatic built from Orient’s F6922. It beats at 3Hz, has 22 jewels and stores 40 hours of power. This is a caller style GMT, so the GMT hand is the one you set on its own while the local hour hand stays fixed to the minutes. For keeping an eye on a time zone away, that's a perfect solution. If you cross time zones a lot, resetting local time on arrival takes longer than on a flyer GMT. Turns out, I was way too quick looking this over and I got a bit ahead of myself. Sorry for that. This is not a GMT movement at all. It's just a 24 hour hand with a GMT bezel, with no way to independently adjust any of the hands. I wasn't expecting a watch named GMT in 2026 to not actually use just a 24 hour hand. That's not good. Not good at all. The three-link steel bracelet has Oyster-style Y-shaped links, hollow end links and a folding safety clasp.
The Orient Kamasu GMT is available now for $495. Black, green, blue and orange are regular production; the dark blue version is limited to 4,300 pieces. See more photos here and the watches on the Orient website.
2/ Sinn Celebrates 65 Years With a Revival Of A Chronograph That Went To Space By Accident
The Sinn 140 S went to space by accident. Reinhard Furrer wore his personal one on the 1985 D1 Spacelab flight, outside any official programme, and came back with proof that an automatic chronograph works fine without gravity. Sinn is now marking its 65th anniversary with a recreation of that watch, with a very cool utilitarian look. This is the new 140 A S Anniversary.
The case is 44mm wide and 15.5mm thick, made out of steel with Sinn’s Black Hard Coating over its TEGIMENT surface hardening, finished with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. It’s large and tall, but this is a Sinn. It has every right to be. Everything else is standard Sinn overbuilding: D3-System crown and pushers, Ar-Dehumidifying Technology to stop the crystal fogging, low-pressure resistance, and 100 meters of water resistance. The sapphire crystal is AR-coated on both sides and the caseback screws down. This anniversary edition gets polished bevels in addition to the matte black rest of the watch.
The dial is matte black with lumed indices and lumed hour and minute hands. Both chronograph hands, one for the seconds and one for the minutes, are lumed too, which is rare and genuinely useful. The minute track runs all the way around the edge to give the central counter something to point at, and an inner pilot’s bezel with a lumed marker lets you time something without starting the chronograph. Small seconds and a date complete it
The SZ01 is Sinn’s modification of the Valjoux 7750, reworked to drive the central jumping minute hand. It’s automatic, beats at 4Hz, has 28 jewels and hacking seconds, and is antimagnetic to DIN 8309. The anniversary box includes a black-and-yellow leather strap, a solid steel bracelet with fine adjustment, a strap-changing tool and spare spring bars.
The 140 A S Anniversary is available now, limited to 300 pieces and priced at €5,490. See more photos here and the watch on the Sinn website.
3/ Louis Erard Continues Dia De Los Muertos Tradition With A Black Case And Colorful Skull
October is skull watch season. Brands time these releases for Halloween and Day of the Dead, and the memento mori skull has become a reliable test bed for dial techniques. Louis Erard’s entry this year is the Dia De Los Muertos Black, a limited edition of 10 with a large painted skull on an all-black watch.
The case is stainless steel, sandblasted and coated in black PVD, and measures 42mm wide. Not small, by any means. It gives the skull room to take over the dial, which is what you want here, but 42mm will rule this watch out for plenty of wrists. Water resistance is 50 meters.
The dial is wonderful. It has a fully black base with an embossed flower pattern that almost disappears into the black since it has no color. But then you have the skull applique, which is painted vividly with six colors, but with white, gray, orange and yellow dominating the look. The floral pattern is also recessed into the skull, so up close it should have real depth. The logo is worked into the top of the skull at 12 o’clock and the brand name runs across the teeth at 6, which is some pretty good integration. The hands are pear-shaped and anthracite plated.
Inside is the Sellita SW261 automatic, beating at 4Hz with 38 hours of power reserve. It comes on a black leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching and quick-release spring bars.
The Louis Erard Dia De Los Muertos Black is limited to 10 pieces and priced at CHF 3,490. See more photos here and the watch on the Louis Erard website.
4/ Pequignet Adds a Dance-Music Tempo Scale to the Royale Paris Chrono BPM
Pequignet released its first chronograph earlier this year, and it was only a matter of very short time before we started getting variants on the theme. This new one, the Royale Paris Chrono BPM, isn't just a new colorway. It's inspired by the French Touch, the 1990s French house scene that produced Daft Punk. Start the chronograph, count 30 bass drum kicks, and the seconds hand will indicate the track’s tempo. It works exactly like a pulsometer, only for music. It’s a gimmick, and a likeable one.
The steel case is 39.5mm wide and 12.7mm thick, a good size for a chronograph. The flanks are recessed, with brushed surfaces and polished bevels, and the lugs are separate and then fixed to the case. Round piston pushers are on the side, next to a push-pull crown. You get a domed sapphire crystal on top, a sapphire window in the screw-down caseback, and 50 meters of water resistance.
The dial fades from electric blue at the top to black at the bottom. The BPM scale runs around the edge in turquoise on black, covering tempos between 35 and 180, with printed equalizer bars between 12 and two o’clock. A smooth recessed ring separates the scale from the center, and faceted indices sit across it. The sub-dials are snailed as a nod to vinyl, with seconds at three and a 30-minute register at nine. Lume is limited to the two main hands.
Despite the Royale name, this isn’t the Calibre Royal. Inside is the Calibre Initial, Pequignet’s fifth movement, with a cam-operated chronograph module from Dubois-Depraz on top. The base is 4.2mm thick, runs at 4Hz and has 65 hours of power reserve. It comes on a black Cordura strap with a steel pin buckle.
The Pequignet Royale Paris Chrono BPM (ref. 9120343) is part of the regular collection, available now, priced at €6,950. See more photos here and the watch on the Pequignet website.
5/ A. Lange & Söhne Puts a Platinum Bracelet Back on the Datograph Perpetual
The Datograph is Lange’s hand-wound flyback chronograph, launched in 1999 and still the watch most people point to when explaining why they love the brand so much. For its first generation, up to 2012, you could order one on a platinum bracelet, and almost nobody did. Wellendorff, the German jeweller, made those bracelets for Lange, they added a small fortune to an already expensive watch, and the few that exist now sell for absurd sums; Loupe This sold one for $116,000. Lange now has a new platinum bracelet of its own design, and it debuts on a limited Datograph Perpetual, the version that adds a perpetual calendar, with a black dial and diamond hour markers.
The case is 950 platinum, 41mm wide and 13.5mm thick, matching the white gold Datograph Perpetual in the regular collection. The finishing is part brushed, part polished, with sapphire crystals front and back. Lange only calls it splash resistant, which is standard for the brand.
The dial is solid silver finished in gloss black, with rhodium-plated subdials. Eleven baguette diamonds, about 0.13 carats in total, are used as hour markers, except for the four and eight positions. The layout is unchanged since the model launched in 2006: big date at the top, a 30-minute counter with month and leap year at three, small seconds with day and day/night at nine, plus a moon phase. The main hands are white gold, the central chronograph hand is rhodium-plated steel, and the sub-dial hands are blued steel.
Inside is the hand-wound calibre L952.1, the first-generation Datograph’s L951.1 with its own perpetual calendar module. It has 556 parts and 45 jewels, a column wheel, a horizontal clutch and flyback, and beats at 2.5Hz with 36 hours of power reserve. The short reserve is the cost of building on the older base instead of the one used in the Up/Down models. Finishing includes German silver plates and bridges, ribbing, polished edges and blued screws. The bracelet has five rows of 950 platinum links, polished ones alternating with brushed, and wide polished bevels along the sides.
The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual ref. 410.136E is limited to 50 pieces and price is on request. There's no way this is under a quarter of a million euros. See more photos here and the watch on the A. Lange & Söhne website.

Discussion What is the right occasion for a watch?
I’m new to watches, currently rocking a Timex Noah but I’m about to reach a year at my first big boy job and want to celebrate by getting a big(ger) boy watch!
However, I’m kinda stuck at choosing which watch. The two watches I’m debating between are both from Kiwame Tokyo. What I’m struggling is really understanding the occasion of each watch.
I understand one is a field watch and the other is more of a dress watch… but I don’t really get the differences? I get that one’s bigger and more rugged, but overall can’t both be for everyday?
I know the easy answer is to where what you like, but I really want to learn more about these differences , can I wear a dress watch everyday? Will it look odd like if I wore a tie with shorts?
Overall would love your opinions on which you like! I’m a pretty casual guy even at work, converse , tattoos, piercings, just not sure which would really lean more me.

I took a picture [Seiko] Knocked it out of the park with this dial
Early into our relationship, my fiancée told me that when she was at a friend’s New Year’s party, she did the thing where you go under the table and eat 12 grapes at midnight. She wanted to eat 12 green grapes (for prosperity, career success, etc) but her best friend convinced her to throw a red grape (for love) in there. We matched on hinge and went on our first date shortly after.
This HBC006J1 reminds me of a red grape. Love looking down at my wrist and being reminded that I’m only worth one red grape smh who knows who she would’ve met if she ate more than one 😂

I took a picture [Blancpain] Villeret Quantième Complet – Beautiful watch, slight buyer’s remorse
Recently picked up this Blancpain Villeret ([6263-3642-55](tel:6263-3642-55)).
A beautiful watch with a subtle rose gold tone. At 38mm, it’s nicely sized, with just enough weight and thickness to feel understated yet substantial on the wrist.
It’s my first watch on a black leather strap, and while I really like the look, I might switch to dark brown leather at some point.
There’s definitely a slight feeling of buyer’s remorse when I think about the money spent. Anyone else experienced this after a purchase?

Discussion Tank must small… bon choix?

I took a picture [Doxa Sub 200] NWD!
Just received my Sub 200 today. I’ve been searching for a dive watch to represent my time in service (prior navy) that also fits my hobbies and lifestyle. I was torn between this and the orange dial but ultimately chose the black dial “shark hunter” for its versatility. I really love the vintage aesthetics as well.
First impression is it looks great and the bezel action is crisp but easy to use. This is my first and only dive watch so my experience is limited. I’ll post more about the lume once I get enough time on wrist to give a more thorough review.
The rubber strap is so comfortable and looks/feels premium. This might be my favorite part about the watch so far.
Overall I’m extremely happy with it. I live at the beach and wanted a more affordable dive watch that I wouldn’t have to stress about when kayaking, swimming or taking it out for beach/pool days, but also looks great at dinner after a full day on the water.
Will be taking my wife and son to Jamaica in a few weeks and look forward to taking my Doxa with me as well!

I took a picture [Sinn 104 Classic 12] My first Sinn watch just arrived today.
So I have been looking at Sinn watches for a while and finally pulled the trigger last week. It just arrived today and this is the first time I have held one in person. I am very impressed.
I went with a 104 Classic 12 because I have been doing more traveling and wanted the effect of a GMT. It was a bonus that it didn't have day/date since I was tired of having to reset the date everytime I wear another watch for a while. I heard people talk about the feel of the bezel but the descriptions didn't do it justice. It is just so "mechanical" feeling. It is very true that this watch is a very comfortable wear on the wrist. Does not feel its size.

Just wondering. I definitely like the price of them, but are they at least considered solid for a budget choice?

I took a picture [Casio AE-1200] First time swapping LEDs on the Casio Royale. Blue - Green gradient. :)
I've had a version of this watch before but finally wanted to put all the pieces together. I've got an aftermarket leather band with a metal body upgrade. I opened up the watch and blacked out most of the markings. I swapped the stock amber LEDs for a blue and green LEDs to make this gradient. Happy with the result! :)

I took a picture [Omega] A closer look at the Speedmaster ’57 - dial and calibre 9906 macros
This is a follow-up to the front shot I posted earlier of my Omega Speedmaster ’57 40.5mm.
I wanted to share two closer looks at details that really make this watch interesting to me. The first photograph focuses on the dial side, showing the sandwich style construction, the recessed lume plots, and the contrast between the matte black surfaces and the warm vintage toned lume. The finely grained surface texture of the dial also came out nicely I think.
The second turns the watch over to the calibre 9906, where the movement feels much more technical and modern, with Omega’s arabesque Geneva waves, crisp finishing and the balance assembly drawing the eye.
What I like about the Speedmaster ’57 is that it manages to lean into vintage inspiration without feeling like a costume piece. The dial and broad arrow handset clearly nod to the past, but underneath that is a thoroughly modern manual wind chronograph movement with a Co-Axial escapement, silicon balance spring, twin barrels, column wheel, vertical clutch and Master Chronometer certification.
Feel free to zoom in, there’s plenty of detail to discover in both shots.
Shot with an OM System OM-5 Mark II and the M.Zuiko 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO. The movement photograph was focus bracketed and stacked in Helicon Focus 8 Pro, with continuous LED lighting, diffusion and negative fill to control reflections. The movement macro is a focus bracket consisting of 186 frames shot with the smallest focus increment of 1, compositing the render gave Helicon and my gaming laptop a bit of a workout. 😁

Discussion [recommendation request] Seiko SRPD55K or SRPE55k
Hey guys, my boyfriend is a finance bro and attends formal events but his day to day is smart casual / sporty lulu vibe. I want to get him his first nice watch and I’ve landed on these as the finalists. But now I’m having a hard time deciding which one. Or maybe you have a different suggestion all together?
Let me know! Thanks!

I took a picture My first ever watch!
Just got my first promotion at work and decided to celebrate this milestone by treating myself to my first ever proper watch! After spending so much time looking at different watches, I ended up going with the Tudor BB58 in black. Tbh I wasn't entirely sure how I'd feel about it at first because I wasn't a big fan of the gilt, but the moment I tried it on at the boutique I knew it was the one. Couldn't be happier with my choice :)
Edit: Seeing quite a few comments saying the photo looks AI-generated and it def looks that way. I can assure you it’s a real photo taken with my iPhone. I’m guessing Apple’s image processing made it look overly enhanced and messed with the dial font, but I promise I haven’t used any AI or edited the photo myself 😂
Did some digging around and it turns out I wasn't the only one who faced this problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/s/Lo6PK7JDib

Discussion Opinions on watch models to gift my dad for his anniversary
Hey Guys, i need your expert opinions and ideas on what's the best watch to gift within my price range. Im trying to buy my dad a good reliable and a hopefully luxurious brand watch for his 25th anniversary.
Unfortunately im a little strapped for cash as im just starting out my adult life and dont have much saved up, so my budget is like 200-400 dollars. Ill try to give you a description of the man so you guys have a little more context,
-He's in his early 50s and he is in the military so definitely something lasting, reliable
-a little rugged by deisgn,
- 41-43 mm dial should be good for his wrists.
- I am primarily looking for something swiss or japanese.
I've attached pictures of some designs i liked and hoping to find something similar, but the company that makes these i found wasn't known to be value for money, so i am at the mercy of the infinite wisdom of this sub. Hopefully my needs are not too much of an ask for my broke budget but fingers crossed, please help a brother out🫂

I took a picture [Seiko 7T52-6A00] my uncle got me 35 years ago
My uncle bought me this Seiko chronograph as a graduation present some 35 years ago. He had a stroke last week and as I was going through some of my old things I found this buried in a drawer. I had the battery changed and I got a new strap to replace the crumbling rubber one.
I’ve been wearing it daily as a prayer for his recovery.

Review I highly worn against purchasing from Undone, worst company every and will leave you hanging.
I bought the Tachikoma Blue limited release, and after some time I noticed a problem with the chronograph. When I press the start pusher, the chronograph hand doesn’t move at all. Since I was still within my warranty period, which runs through December 2026, I reached out to Undone’s customer support. I figured this would be a simple warranty claim.
I emailed Undone customer support on September 3. I got an automatic reply within minutes saying to expect a response in 24 to 48 hours. I followed up on September 8 and heard nothing. A real response didn’t come until September 19, sixteen days after my first email, and it asked for a photo and a short video of the problem. I sent the video that same morning. They then asked for my order number, which I gave them, and then asked me to confirm my shipping information, which I had already provided. I sent it again, and they said they’d “proceed accordingly.”
Then nothing. I asked for next steps on September 22 and for an update on September 25. On September 30, they told me I’d be getting a return label and to wait for it. I waited. I followed up on October 7, and on October 8 they asked if I’d received the label. I hadn’t. They said it would come in a separate email. On October 12 I wrote again because there was still no label. On October 14 they apologized and said they’d escalate it. I asked for an update again on October 20 and got another apology and another “I’ll follow up with the team.”
As of today, October 26, I still have no return label and no repair. It has been over seven weeks since my first email. In that time I’ve sent more than a dozen messages, and the replies have been apologies and requests for information I’d already given. Nobody has taken any action. The watch is still broken, and I’m still in the same spot I was in on September 3.
I’m not asking for anything unreasonable. I have a watch with a defect, a valid warranty, and a video showing the problem. All I need is a return label. If they can’t manage that in seven weeks, I don’t know what a warranty is worth.
I’d think hard before buying from Undone. If something goes wrong, you may be on your own.

Discussion [Discussion] 200 vs 12,000 Years - Lucky Timing
Modern humans settled down with agricultural settlements roughly 12,000 years ago. The wristwatch was invented in 1810.
Less than 2% of settled modern human history has overlapped with watches and we’re all alive to engage in the golden era of design options and affordability.
I for one am thankful for the timing.

I took a picture [Blancpain / Spinnaker] Fifty Fathoms meets Fifty Phantoms.
Haute horology meets ghost horology.
Just received my Spinnaker 50 Phantoms, and the photo op was too good to pass up. Naturally, I brought out the Blancpain for introductions. Halloween came a few days early this year. There’s room in my watch box for a sense of humor.
I suspect the Blancpain was expecting more distinguished company. He’ll adjust.
