Politics & Governance Vucic tomorrow morning

Current results as of October 26th 2026 12:35 PM CEST

  1. Students - 140
  2. SNS - 104

Amount of people that voted (currently) - 4,212,509 (97.0% of the polls recorded)

Required seats for a majority: 126

(For comparison, Vucic following the 2023 Elections only won 110 seats but formed a coalition government)

Vucic conceded defeat
(I am editing this from time to time)

Edit 2: I made a slight mistake and accidentally showed SNS having a majority, when at the time of me editing (prior to now) they had lost their majority

Edit 3 (06:44 AM 26 Oct 2026): You do not know how much pain and misery I alongside many others have gone through after 14 years of his dictatorship

Politics & Governance Do you think your country can meaningfully reduce tensions with its neighbours if it has them ?

I'd state a few examples . Starting with Croatia -They have tensions with Serbia ( ofc ) Montenegro, Bosnia .

Bosnia obviously has issues with Serbia and bosnian serb parties don't get along well with Croatia either .

Greece has tensions with Albania , Macedonia ( not a lot anymore though I think ) and Turkey ofc .

Albania has tensions with Serbia and Greece .

Serbia has tensions with Croatia, Bosnia and Albania/kosovo .

I may have missed a few as this list isn't all inclusive .

Language 2nd gen Dalmatian American – why does standard Croatian often feel less familiar than Serbian/Bosnian media?

I’m a 29 year old American born and raised, but I’ve always strongly identified with my Dalmatian heritage. I speak the dialect fluently (though I still mess up the padeži), and I understand the Dalmatian speech both sets of my grandparents use (from around the Zadar area, both the islands and the villages/selos around Zadar).

Both sets of grandparents grew up in what was then Yugoslavia. My mother was born in America to immigrants, and my father immigrated before the collapse, but they have always identified as Dalmatian Croatians.

I’ve always know that the language I speak and learned is quite different from standard Croatian. But in recent years I’ve realized I often find it easier to understand Serbian, Montenegrin, or even Bosnian content/media than Croatian content/media, even though I don’t read Cyrillic. The words and phrasing just feel more familiar.

I know there was a stronger push after the breakup of Yugoslavia for the Zagreb-based standard, but I’ve noticed the difference much more lately.

I use the usual Italian-influenced Dalmatian words (šugaman instead of ručnik, pomidor instead of rajčica, vešta instead of haljina, pijat instead of tanjur, etc.), which most Dalmatians do. But I also say things like “iljada” instead of “tisuća,” which I think is more common on the Serbian side.

Recently I came across “obilježene obljetnice” in Croatian media and had to look it up. I would have immediately understood “godišnjice koje se slave.” This kind of thing has been happening a lot.

I have no interest in starting any political arguments, I’m just describing my experience as a heritage speaker. Has anyone else (especially other diaspora or coastal/island speakers) noticed something similar?

Stereotypes/Humor The Dumb Balkan stereotype

Anyone else find this gets old? Like sort of goes with the whole Russian / Eastern European thing. We come from a small village; our men are drunks and we have third world stuff going on.

I spent a month in Zagreb a year ago and it was a positively thriving intellectual central European capital. More bookstores per capita than the more “civilized” west, libraries, cafe culture etc.

It just sort of irks me.

Culture/Lifestyle Hi everyone, what do you think about russian people (not politic related!)

Hi everyone, i have read a lot about your culture and i found it really interesting, you are so cool!!! Thats why i decided to find out how you treat rus people like me, because it seems to me that they dont really like us there. Just please dont judge me by my political views. If possible, ill come and be a good guest who will try to eat everything you give me and even tell something to you. (Bureks are very yummy, I liked it)

Cuisine Is burek not a thing in Greece?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Currently in Banff, Canada 🇨🇦 and was super stoked when I saw that there was a Balkan restaurant, as I tried all kinds of burek in Albania and they all still live in my head rent-free 1.5 years later. This restaurant, however, did not have any, which made me question its origin and whether there are just more popular Greek dishes out there than burek.

Also, where can I find the best burek in the Balkans?

EDIT: Thank you all for the clarification! I actually found a spinach burek under ‘spanakopita’ on the menu

Politics & Governance what does the victory of the "student movement" mean for Serbia's relations w/ Greece & Turkey?

Serbia was, geo-politically, kinda pro Erdogan (despite also maintaining traditionally decent relations w/ Greece).
