Went in, got my ballot, filled it out, handed it to the guy to feed into the tabulator and... it jammed.

Sorry.

Advice to candidates for next election

It's too late for this election.

Have a good website. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it needs to exist, be reasonably complete, and easy to navigate. That's where I did all my research last night. I almost stopped researching one candidate because their website was mostly blank space and images to large for the screen. Another began with a flashing donate sign.

Proofread it. Ask your friends about it. Test it on different devices. Show me that this job is important enough to you that you will take the time to do it right. I don't care if you personally struggle with spelling and grammar. I do care that you value accuracy and attention to detail enough to work with someone who has those skills.

Give details. "Coordinate with the police and other groups to solve the homeless problem." Does that mean you'll coordinate to round them up and send them to another jurisdiction? Or move services to the far edge of the city with no transit access? Or do something that actually respects them as human beings?

Start with a term as councilor, instead of going straight for mayor. It shows you're in it for the long term and know what you're getting into. CEO of a multi million dollar corporation is not something you can parachute into.

Several of the mayoral candidates were ineligible for that job due to lack of experience, but were better qualified than the trustee candidates in my ward.

If you don't have experience with city politics, include experience that you do have. Attend city Hall meetings. Join the board of a community group. So that you understand the challenges of this type of job, and stick with it.

Candidate pamphlet in voting booth

I just voted in ward 2, and found a pamphlet for Greg Cix carefully placed inside one of the voting booths. I’m not suggesting he’s responsible (could be an enthusiastic supporter), but that’s flat out against the rules. Let’s have a clean election day, folks.

Is this election interference ???

Confused on the rules of election interference. At the corner of Woodlawn and Victoria this morning part of ken Chew’s election team was at the corner playing music and shaking signs to vote for him at around 9am.

Just wondering what the rules are for this as I haven’t seen this before on election day. Especially since there are two polling stations in very close proximity.

Not knocking his team, I just like to know everyone is following the rules

When can we expect results from the Election?

I'm not exactly expecting day of results like provincial or federal, though I wouldn't be upset by it, but does anyone know when we can expect results after todays polls close?

Anxiety/ADHD diagnosis

• Upvotes

Hello, I'm a uni student who isn't from Ontario and was wondering if anyone had recommendation where I could get a diagnosis and get medicated, I don't have OHIP but have student coverage so I think it could cover the fees up a little. Though am still looking for a financially affordable care as my anxiety issue is becoming a handful. Been trying to get diagnosed at school, however it's taking a long time and I wasn't sure where to go so any information would help. Thank you

Hi All,

I saw a post about online voting for the elections in Center Wellington today, and am wondering if Guelph has that option too? It would be convenient for somebody that I know if possible

What’s the deal with this pipe in the rock cut off the radial trail?

There’s a large rock cut between the two levels of the radial trail along the Eramosa, and I saw this pipe sticking out of it. Is it old infrastructure?

Encampment under the Hanlon

Not meaning to sound rude or naive, but is it safe to go down by the encampment below the hanlon? It looks like a really cool place with the bridges, overpasses and the river shores. I'd love to check it out but I don't feel right going down there.

Daycare and Workspace?

I'm wondering if the Guelphites can help me do some market research.

I have kids and I need office space to work. (Work from home/ remote jobs).

I'm wondering if there are any other parents like myself who would be interested in a day care/community working space where you can drop off the kids in the morning and be at your desk working in 2 minutes.

Be able to have time and focus on work and also just go downstairs and see how your child's day is going?

Just an idea I am wondering if people would actually find it useful.

Trustees?

My in-law is voting today, and he doesn’t want to vote for any far right trustees. Who should he be voting for? Who should be avoided? I’m in Waterloo region, so I only know about there.

Where’s the public piano?

I recently read about a public piano being put by city hall, I was just walking through looking for it and couldn’t find it. Does anyone know where it is or why it isn’t out?

I know this sub leans heavily in favour of one candidate (as do I). Can she pull it off?

Pretty sure you can't do that Michael Agueci

Woke up and found these post it notes on our cars this morning. We live in an apartment building with a private parking lot, and these stickers were placed on our driver door windows yesterday. Pretty sure it's illegal to put something on someone's car, if it's parked in a private parking lot and you don't have authorization from the vehicle owner. I called the Guelph city clerk to report it, and the gentleman who answered the phone (at 7am!) was very polite and helpful. Said he would call back in a couple of days with an update.
