Moratorium on Execution Content

Effective immediately, May 22nd 2026 at 7:30 PM UTC, we're turning off the tap on execution-related content. Any execution videos, images, or discussions posted after this post goes live will be removed.

This content is only tangentially related to war, and moreover has been overtaking content that more closely relates to the sub's mission. We're not /r/MorbidReality, /r/Gore, or /r/WatchPeopleDie. We're /r/War, and we'd like to keep content here germane to that.

I'm so scared of war as an Iranian

I'm not sure if this would be suitable for this sub, I hope it is. And sorry, this is probably not going to be coherent or well-written, and it's likely going to get long. I don't want to get political, so please respect that. I'm just genuinely scared and wanted to get it off my chest.

I live in Iran. In Tehran, the capital. We've had two major wars in our country recently, and the last one never really ended. We have been living under the shadow of the war ever since it started (28th if February I guess; but even for months before then, there were rumours about this war). Only two months before the last war, some protests started (due to the terrifying situation of the economics) and more than 40 thousand people were killed during them, and to this day, people are being executed for the protests. This year has been truly horrifying. I'm just going to vent about the affect it had on me, but obviously there were people who had it way, way worse.

They shut down the internet. Completely. For NINETY days (meaning way past the ceasefire). We had absolutely no way of using the international internet (not even Google), and we only had access to some trashy national applications, which were heavily censored and moderated. We couldn't have access to the news. They didn't even evacuate the places that were going to get bombed, and didn't inform people about it. That's the level I'm talking about. (Of course, even now that we do have access to international internet, it's all banned (as for the past decade) needing to be accessed through VPNs).

It was awful. We couldn't leave the house. We had no internet. Nothing to do, but to hear all the sounds of the bombs and the missiles, and wondering if any of the people we know was dead due to them. It was terrifying just thinking about losing people, especially if a missile hit near their houses. You can't imagine the stress of calling a friend and waiting impatiently for them to answer praying they're alive and safe.

We couldn't sleep at nights, but the days weren't much better either. I had to take melatonin pills almost every day to get a few hours of uneasy sleep. On top of antidepressants and propranolols. I was dealing with severe stress, and was considered unbothered by it by others' standards. (People were truly having it way worse than me mantally). I gained 15 kilograms (\\\~33 lbs) due to the overeating caused by the stress. I haven't been able to lose the weight even after months.

No one has really recovered from the previous wars. We all have trauma and PTSD. A simple noise, dropping something, constructors working, etc is enough to truger most people even now.

We all know the problem hasn't been solved, and were expecting another war sooner or later. It seems like it's going to happen very very soon, maybe even in a few days. For the last couple of weeks, I've been checking my phone every few minutes to know if the war has broken out or not, even in the middle of the night. And it's only getting worse. Also, they have explicitly said that we will face another internet shutdown the minute the war breaks out. So again, we won't even have any internet access. We are going to be locked in our homes without baing able to have interactions with anyone, without being notified of the news, without having anything to do other than worry about things.

I can have another long rant about the economics, but I'll just say that it was getting worse and worse even before the war, and after that it's pretty much unlivable. Everything is doubled or even tripled in price. Nothing is affordable. The salaries are a joke compared to the costs. You can't truly imagine. The minimum montly vage is $61, the average minimum monthly vage in major cities is $148. The cost of living is lower than some other countries obviously, but not by much. 40% of the population is considered below the poverty line.

I don't know if anyone reads all this. If you did, thank you! And sorry for the unnecessary rant. I'm just scared and tired of this situation. I'm dealing with severe anxiety and depression on top of thag (not all of it is because of the war, it's just getting amplified). My heart rate is rising with even writing these and I might need to take a pill.

I'm scared of the war and I know it's probably coming very soon. Possibly in these few days. And I'm scared of the internet shutdown as well, our internet connection has gotten so so slow already.

What are your thoughts on the Dahiya doctrine?

It is an Israeli military strategy that involves using massive, disproportionate force against civilian infrastructure, inflicting devastating damage on the civilian and economic fabric, in order to make the cost unbearable for the enemy and to incite the population to rebel. Many criticize it, arguing that the strategy fails in the long term and does not lead to peace; others condemn it as a clear violation of international law. This doctrine was developed by Gadi Eisenkot, the leader of the opposition to Netanyahu

"Golden-yellow autumn in Zaporizhzhia — hell for the occupier!" Ukrainian infantry and drones takeout Russian infantry, drones, vehicles, EW and artillery. 24/10/26

"Fresh combat chronicle from the special forces of the Department of Active Operations of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine — assaults in the Zaporizhzhia settlements, captured Moscow troops, and a generous harvest of accurate strikes. Episode: the occupier was particularly eager to find safety in a burrow, but didn’t take one thing into account — you can’t hide from GUR masters even underground. The scouts shattered that illusion — they eliminated the scoundrel. In the end — enemy infantry, equipment and transport, communications gear, generators, guns, shelters, and occupier positions all taken out. The armed struggle continues! Glory to Ukraine!"
