Stressing the inevitable disappearance.of the horse for the purposes of transport in the modern city, which the world over is now struggling unsuccessfully with the problems of traffic congestion, the traffic committee of the Association of Commerce which lias completed a survey for the City Council recommended that body to prohibit all horse-drawn vehicles from a group of_ important central Chicago streets.

The committee said that heavy horse drawn drays were an important factor in the snail-like pace imposed upon vehicles. They contribute a substantial part to the traffic congestion on several central streets, although composing an infinitesimal fraction of the 314,000 vehicles which daily pass through those thoroughfares.
