📝 Shelter Notes:
9/30: Caspian was brought to BARC as a stray after being found with another dog roaming the area. His intake records documented wounds and injuries requiring medical attention.
10/1: Caspian was resting at the front of his kennel with a loose body, dilated eyes, upright ears and a fast-wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs. Once back in his kennel, he became vocal when he heard staff walking outside. He was taken out by a family and interacted with them in a very friendly manner.
10/5: Caspian greeted staff with a wiggly body and softly wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.
10/6: Caspian was documented as very friendly and allowed staff to pet him while food was being placed in his bowl. He walked outside to relieve himself and returned to his kennel without issues.
10/7: Caspian was calm and quiet in his kennel and kept it clean overnight. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.
10/11: Caspian greeted staff with a loose body, dilated eyes, upright ears, fast-wagging tail and an open-mouth smile. He walked on a loose leash to and from the runs. Back in his kennel, he became vocal when hearing people nearby. Staff noted that he had previously been taken out by a family and interacted with them very positively.
10/13: Caspian greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and soft eyes. He was easily leashed and walked on a semi-loose leash. He remained neutral toward other dogs passing nearby.
10/16: Caspian greeted staff with soft eyes, a loose body and wagging tail. He became excited when leaving the outdoor run, hopping around and play-bowing toward staff. He walked on a semi-loose leash and returned to his kennel without issues.
10/17: Caspian greeted staff with a loose body, dilated eyes, upright ears, fast-wagging tail and an open-mouth smile. He became vocal when hearing people outside his kennel. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash.
10/18: Caspian approached staff with a loose body, fast-wagging tail and open-mouth smile. He walked on a loose leash and returned to his kennel without issues. Throughout the day, he occasionally barked when people passed nearby.
10/19: Caspian was resting at the front of his kennel with a loose body, soft eyes, upright ears and a fast-wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked to the runs without issues. Once back in his kennel, he settled onto his cot and slept throughout much of the morning.
10/20: Caspian greeted staff with soft eyes and was easily leashed. He walked on a semi-loose leash and became excited when leaving the outdoor run, hopping around and play-bowing toward staff. He returned to his kennel without issues and settled down to rest.
10/21: Caspian was lying calmly at the front of his kennel with a neutral body. When staff opened the door, he got up and began wagging his tail. He walked on a semi-loose leash, occasionally pulling forward and hopping outside. He showed a playful side before settling back in his kennel.
10/24: Caspian was described as very friendly and allowed staff to pet him while food was placed in his bowl. He walked outside to relieve himself and returned to his kennel without issues. He laid down and slept for the remainder of the morning. Staff also noted that he was friendly and welcoming toward customers and volunteers.
10/25: Caspian again demonstrated friendly, relaxed behavior. He greeted staff with a loose body, upright ears, wagging tail and soft eyes. He accepted affection during feeding, walked outside without issues and settled calmly afterward.
10/26: Caspian greeted staff with a loose body, upright ears, wagging tail and soft eyes. He remained friendly during handling, walked outside to relieve himself and returned to his kennel without issues. He spent the remainder of the morning resting on his cot.
🩺 Medical Notes:
9/30: Caspian weighed approximately 44.6 lbs during his initial medical evaluation. He was documented with wounds and an injured front leg. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention. His heartworm test was NEGATIVE.
9/30: Caspian received tranquilizing medication to allow staff to safely complete his initial medical care.
10/2: Caspian was evaluated for healing wounds involving his face, sides, limbs and right axillary area. The wounds were documented as healing. He was prescribed Clavamox 375 mg twice daily for 10 days, Rimadyl (carprofen) 75 mg once daily for 10 days and gabapentin 100 mg twice daily for 10 days.
10/6: Caspian underwent a neuter procedure. His weight was recorded at approximately 47.2 lbs. He received perioperative medications and was fitted with an Elizabethan collar.
10/14: Caspian received an additional DA2PP vaccination. His medical record continued to document a wound-related examination.
Caspian needs veterinary follow-up to ensure his previous wounds and injuries have healed appropriately.
💖 Caspian is a handsome 2-year-old boy who has shown an incredibly sweet and resilient spirit despite arriving at BARC with multiple wounds and injuries. Throughout his time at the shelter, he has consistently greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes and a happily wagging tail. He has been easy to leash, generally walks nicely, welcomes affection and has even shown his playful personality by hopping around and offering adorable play bows. Staff have repeatedly described him as friendly, and he has interacted positively with a visiting family, customers and volunteers. Although he occasionally barks when he hears activity outside his kennel, he has also shown that he can settle comfortably and rest quietly. Caspian needs a loving foster or adopter who can provide a safe, stable home, monitor his recovery and give him the affection and companionship he clearly enjoys. Caspian has shown everyone what a wonderful companion he could be. Please don't let his story end here. 💙
